...those electric floors were meant to damage Sonic, right?
Nah probably just there for show
Maybe but my guess is that it was scrapped then repurposed for Death Egg Zone in Sonic 3 because they look very similar to the floors there.
The layout documents don't give any indication for what they actually did. They're just there.
@@jubbalub but if they indicate let's just say, yes.
Probably but you have to remember adding extra features takes time and coding. They probably just made this and released it as a proof of concept.
Super cool to see this level remade using the old level geometry artwork.
As for the level itself, very grim, dark and depressing. The music compliments the zone so well. It really feels like Eggman won and you’re in his world now. Very fitting for a bad-future especially when you consider Sonic 2 was supposed to have time travel. I wonder if there are more hidden assets out there in the world.
I mean, it was the second to last stage in the game and indeed part of the Future stages which would be the Endgame
Plenty of graphics and stuff out there...
It'll just take time for them to slip out into the wild.
At least you actually get to hear the full music this time
...compared to Sonic 2, where you have to stand still to hear the full Death Egg theme
If STI did allow CCZ to make it in, it couldve been a VERY intense zone.
Did you know that I downloaded the file from Drive and fully modified the music and zones?
Here are my mods:
I put the REAL Oil Ocean music in Oil Ocean, and then put Sonic 2 Archives' Ocean Wind music into Dust Hill (I renamed it Sand Shower), put Sound Test $10 into Hidden Palace, put a secret section and a working loop in Hill top on top of the barren ground, changed Aqua Planet's music to Azure Lake and changed it to Aquatic Planet and put Death Egg's background in it, put Angel Island music in Wood Zone (I ultimately renamed it Lost Wood), Put the S&K Death Egg music in the Death Egg, which I also put a Goal Post in, and then turned Genocide City into Cyber City and put another Goal Post there, added another floating Island in Emerald Hill, and even put what I called Emerald Hilltop in Tropical Plant's slot! Now that's what I call a true modification.
IIRC Cyber City was supposed to be Metropolis act 3, and a Sonic Spinball level reused the assets and designs planned for it. I think it was The Machine?
Yes, they really were reused.
Some of Cyber City's assets were recycled into the unreleased game B-Bomb, which were then recycled into The Machine. The palette of The Machine is also very similar to the Cyber City palette located in the released docs, The Machine is just slightly more saturated.
Actually Cyber City level design was recicled for Metropolis Act 3, but Ciber City was its own zone originally.
Sonic 2 would have time travel (only in plot, not in gameplay) and Ciber City was kind of like Metropolis, but in the future.
The best part is that Chemical Plant Music was originally composed for Cyber City, and Casino Night 2 Player was the real Chemical Plant theme lol
apparently was a translation error or something
Only a matter of time until this either ends up in Sonic 2: Time Quest and/or Sonic 2 Archives hopefully.
Also had this Zone been released, I have a feeling it would have been quite menorable.
90% it will be in Sonic 2 Long Version.

I think it was a result of catch 22 with this zone. Mainly because the premise seemed to be very similar to metropolis zone. It was one of the main reasons why it was cut and reporposed as metropolis act 3. It is a shame it got cut though because it does seem interesting and with a bit of polishing off could’ve been a contender for a favourite level
It was cut because 40% of the game was cut and it alone would not make much sense
The Sonic 2 beta was dark and griddy
i viewed that on microsoft news before 25 minutes, amazing gameplay
so this is what my friend meant when he said "my song cover is very much in the spirit of cyber city"
huh.... i'll take it!
It's only so long till we get a new rom hack with these old zones updated to there newest versions
I would have liked it more if the zone used the song it was supposed to have (Casino Night Zone 2 Players) but it's a great representation!
Casino Night 2P was intended for Oil Ocean zone.
I'm pretty sure the music that plays in its remains of any build, or at least the final is Chemical Plant. Unless there's a bunch of tracks Masato never released, most music tracks were definitely going to be used twice for two different zones of similar musical theming.
@@vincentadamsvgaI think that’s it’s more likely that these zones were cancelled early enough in development that they never had proper music composed for them.
@@vincentadamsvga It is, in the "Simon Wai" build the Chemical Plant theme plays
You could argue that stages that reuse themes probably had their themes implemented in the Simon Wai build but weren't used for whatever the reason, but CNZ2p wasn't one of those (It was used as Oil Ocean's theme)
@@DeskoDev We now know that Casino Night 2P was intended for Chemical Plant, and Chemical Plant was intended for Cyber Zone
Basically the OST was composed before the very first Alpha of the game, when they saw that they would have to throw out the original plan, they started experimenting with the songs in different zones.
Since they decided to use Cyber's music on Chemical Plant, they experimented Chemical music on Oil Ocean, that way they could use Oil Ocean's music on Dust Hill (Sand Zone) since they was using its music com Aquatic Ruins.
Sky Chase music was composed for Winter Zone
Already dig the music. Super underrepresented track, considering most people hear about 8 seconds of it
Very cool recreation of Cyber City graphics but I am wonder why you didn't use Metropolis act 3 layout as they said they use it to make act 3 as it would have been a waste otherwise.
A rough map of Cyber City's planned layout was found, that was what was used for this recreation
Phew, that music as a full level theme is exhausting and insufferable 😂
I haven't seen a video with Cyber City in years!
Neither do I, but I’m Young that I don’t understand
@@alexistramirez…?
I’ve always referred to it as Genocide City, just sounds better y know? but still XD
@@ParakoEPC no it doesnt sound better. Do you know what Genocide is?
@@shimmy1984 mass murder is awesome, fits the theme of the level
Video: Cyber City
Title Card: Genocide City
it was called that earlier in its development until the developers though "genocide might be a bit too much for a family game" (or something like that)
I think the electric floors would have worked better as being dormant until being walked on. When that happens, the frame lights would turn on as a warning indicator before all the electric coils on the map activated.
Craig Stitt worked on “Cyber City” and “Metropolis.” Some material that he worked on for “Cyber City” was moved over to “Metropolis Zone Act 3,” including assets that were seen in prototypes and removed before the game was finished. I think “Technocity Zone” should’ve been a more suitable name than “Cyber City Zone.” The water, in my opinion, was not considered to be a feature for this unused zone.
There is water present in the layout sketches.
And it wasn't Stitt who worked on CCZ and MZ, it was Tom Payne.
My apologies for the designer on those levels.
@@nickgamer2693 You should DEFINITELIY APOLOGIZE LOSER
With some enemies and more platforms it could be really nice.
Should have been in the original game. Period.
What's with the wonky physics?
Pity it uses Death Egg zone and not the intended Genocide City music (casino night multiplayer in the final game).
It was more of a chemical plant zone one. The cuty zobe with no layout plays CPZ music.
That was never intended for genocide city, it was always for oil ocean until transfered into 2 player
@@jq2yt Where did you hear that, when and when was the source dated?
@@lionocyborg6030 because genocide city was already scrapped, and it was paired with chemical plant's music in the simon wai prototype and there are no sources supporting that genocide city was for casino night 2p music, the casino night p2 music was used for oil ocean 2 prototypes later until the censor build
I'm not gonna state that genocide city's music was for death egg's music but wing fortress music exist within the build of the simon wai before wing fortress was planned, potentially suggesting that it was for death egg before genocide city was scrapped, which also suggests that death egg's music could be potentially for genocide city
Sega needs to hire whoever came up with thi- ...wait
There using the mock up of the cyber city from the video game foundation
Iirc 'Genocide' is a mistranslation of 'Genesis', as in, 'Genesis City' though I have heard different from other sources and I can't quite remember where I heard this from, wasn't this level only meant to have one act though?
Wrong.
How about Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Sand Shower Zone Recreation.
Not all the resources are there to really recreate Sand Shower & its snowy counterpart. All that was made was what we saw in the screenshot for all we know. Design documents exist that even show the direct code locations for parts of Cyber City, hence how accurately it was remade
Awesome level but it's missing some sfx
How do I get it to work
And then Act 2 would look like the one from Sonic: The lost Zones

Can it be played on original hardware???

I can see that it is using the layout from Tom Payne's concept arts but there are still some things out of place here.
The aforementioned concept arts confirmed that Cyber City didn't become Metropolis Act 3, so having way too much influence from it isn't accurate.
The Machine isn't what Cyber City would have looked like, it only inspired its creation.
As for the song, we don't know if Chemical Plant's or Death Egg's would have been used for it, for now the Casino Night 2P is the good choice.
Casino Night's 2P theme was originally for Oil Ocean.
@@supermarioworldE We can't confirm that dude, placeholders have come and gone during Sonic 2's development.
@@Igor39K That was the theme for Oil Ocean from Wai to Censor. It was changed so late in development that the final credits theme was not updated to have the final Oil Ocean music. While not confirmed, it is very likely that Casino Night's 2P music was originally for Oil Ocean.
@@Igor39K Yup we pretty much solved 85.2%100 of the sonic 2 development mystery

_____
Stages that got concepts but didn't make pass the pixelated concept or possibly made pass but we're purged into glitchy empty mess before the Simon wai beta and are lost :
Tropical sun ( still not clue or confirmation about what this level s' theme song was supposed to be very likely to be emerald hill 2p but it's not confirmed )
Blue lake ( an underwater temple stage possibly a proto of hidden palace )
Dust hill ( beta mystic cave but was possibly originaly planned to be a standalone stage , the stage would be a ruined haunted green hill filled wth dust and mineshafts ( more likely to be a outside version of mystic cave and mystic cave we know is actually an inside version of dust hill , very likely they would share the same music cuz the ost is haunted style and sounds like a underground bad future of green hill )
Rock world ( was it supposed to be a ruined ver of sand shower or the true name of winter zone or a standalone level that would be a prehistoric version of a desert full of clouds & rocks and ruins , and whats the intended song , cuz everyone is convinced that mystic cave 2p is the rock world theme but it's possible that it's a placeholder and aquatic ruin might be true theme of this stage but who knows ? , nothing is confirmed )
Ocean wind ( likely a ocean version of emerald hill but possible that they've planned a second version of ocean wind that second version to be oil ocean and the first one to be part of the Beach , still unknown about if this song share the same as emerald hill but yet again who knows? , nothing is confirmed )
Madness mountain ( idk if it's a standalone stage or a proto version of an existing level , ( likely mystic cave to not have been planned yet )
Genocide city ( at some point if the stage sprites tiles are true or placeholders of what the stages graphics was originally supposed to be earlier before the Simon wai proto , chemical plant was supposed to the theme of genocide city but again nothing is confirmed , another placeholder )
Genocide city 2 ( the stage has a second version well it's unknown about what it looked like cuz it's prob lost and nobody knows if the song of the zone got even made and possibly be lost through time ? )
We were so close solving the mystery but we kinda got tricked by our own theorys & beliefs and speculations about these cuz we know and love sonic 2 songs but are they always were supposed to be intended for these stages or they were placeholders at some point in development and once time constraints hit they completely abondonned producing more musics or they produced them and got lost over time , so many mystery bloating sonic 2
It's like an impossible puzzle to solve ,
Like u said placeholders come and go and true of this game s'development will never see the light of day .
@@supermarioworldE I know dude but the credits medley not having Oil Ocean's theme isn't saying anything, because it has the Mystic Cave 2P and Emerald Hill 2P on it which weren't used for any main zone present in the final game.
You should try to create Blue Lake Zone using the Azure Lake assets from Sonic 3.
Nah, it's the same as recreating Spring Yard using Carnival Night Zone assets

Cyber city was a later name for genocide city
Cyber City is Genocide city before it got deleted. Unrelated to deltarune
Why is this so different from the one in the long version?
@@KennyChu: I've no idea...
@@KennyChu Because back then, people had little information about this deleted zone so they assumed it was a city with some edgy stuff in it because of the name but now that we had more info about it and it's real name. This is how it actually supposed to look like.
