My left ear enjoyed this video so much
lool great comment :DDD
Thanks. I feel a lot happier now. I'm moving to Spain on 1st March.Nr Malaga.
I lived in Turkey for a few times, spent most of mt free time with Turks. After about two years I was fairly fluent and continued to improve my language skills - it wasn't too difficult.
Great video! Just found your channel as I'm trying to prepare for our new adventure next summer. Love the info on kids and education. Thanks again. Will be watching all of your videos.
Very good Video Graham I think I agree with you on all points mate. I suggest to people if they are not sure come over and rent for 6 months, get a feel for things and the way of life here and if they feel that way of life could work for them. When they do make the move they are much more relaxed as most of the groundwork has been done without them even thinking about it.
Love your honesty :)
There are better things to do in life....So true! i'm moving to andalucia next autumn!
Very good advice. Thank you.
100% right. Spain is a great place for both family and retirement. But, like he says, don't live like a brit in Spain. Immerse yourself in the culture, learn the language and fit in. Denia is a great place with everything, best weather, 50km from ibiza party scene if you like that and in the heart of wonderful agricultural area. Buying a 7 bedroom penthouse for $680k! With sea views and 5 minutes from both the sea and great shopping lane
What should I be working to get $680k?
Thirsty not too many properties in that area at that costing . Depends but unusual . That’s much more South .
Thirsty 7 bedrooms? Not a reality these days so close to sea . Not in truth . Know the market . I am not saying it’s not true just unusual
Wonderful and informative video. Thank you!
Cheers my friends ! Hay que hablar el idioma sin miedo, la práctica es importante, Spain is just wonderful greetings !
Good advice Graham. We are moving out in 11 months and started lessons with a home tutor 2 months ago.
best decision i made in my life leaving to work to Spain. But not to any part near the mediterranean sea. i live in la rioja.... great life
Logroño is a massively under appreciated city. Small but really good for Tapas and Lifestyle.
Graham Hunt and the wine.......
Alf The wine goes without saying of course ;-)
Great video. Thinking of doing my work experience there. Cheers.
No worries Farah. Good luck with the job search
This is great video! Thank you i am in Exam's and when i am older i am really thinking about moving to Spain! This has really really helped thank you so much, great advice there.
You're welcome. Hope you manage to get here
Yes me to! Thank you.
Hi Graham. Greetings from Australia!
I thought this was an excellent, and incredibly informative video and would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience on the matter.
I am currently learning Spanish and am really enjoying it. I would love for the opportunity to teach English as a second language (and maybe teach music as well - who knows) over in Spain so this video was very helpful.
If there are any tips that you might have for a young 22-year old male like myself who is looking to make a permanent move over there I would greatly appreciate it.
Gracias, señor. Hasta luego.
Love the reference to the French .... sooo true : )
Im from Aus and im dying to get there in spain im soo tired of living in Aus this is my dream.
@essexcourier Which bit was that then? ;-)
you're free to listen to whoever you want and do as you like but then don't say you weren't warned.
Yes, because we really want to listen to "XLR8Gaming8RLX" the "Expert on Spanish life"
My daughter will be out of college in 2 years and we have been thinking about moving to Spain, especially the Barcelona area. My biggest hurdle is not the cost of living there but the cost of MOVING there. How would I do that? Also, I know some Spanish but I hear you have to know Catalanese in Catalonia. How do I do that?
Hiponakte is right that respecting the culture of Catalunya and speaking Spanish is usually enough but there are plenty of Catalans with a chip on their shoulder about using Spanish with other Spanish people. How this will play out if Catalunya votes for independence and gets it is another issue altogether.
Regardsing the cost of moving there what do you mean exactly Mary Brew ?
It is all very theoretical at the moment. Thank you both for the comments. They were very, very helpful. By costs I guess I meant move in costs. I obviously am not going to have all of my furniture shipped.. Plus, I suppose the paperwork does cost something. Those were my biggest issues.
If you are looking at a rental then expect to pay three months upfront and maybe more if the owners require a larger deposit because of the lack of guarantees. Paperwork costs are negligible really on rental but on ourcahse they can mount up.
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me about this. It is wonderful information that I will keep in mind as I plan for my future!
-Mary
You don't need to know catalan if you know some spanish, but will be better for you if in the next months living here you speak a little catalan.
I decided at 8 I couldn’t live in the uk . I’m no longer there and one day I will be in Spain . Uk was never for me . Horrible life miserable quality of life - for me . Horrendous . Spanish people are far nicer generally also. I’m already 75% fluent in Spanish . Graham. Integration also is essential I’m already building a circle of contacts years out of moving again . It’s the planning and the commitment . Don’t expect to speak English lol . Omg the ppl whom think that’s fine is just painful
I would like to move there as an American. What are the restrictions for an american citizen to move and buy property in Spain? your response would be appreciated.
You will need a *Número de Identificación de Extranjero, NIE*, if you want to buy a property.
You will also need a long-term VISA. For EU citizens reading this: EU citizen don't need a VISA.
Take a look at the website for the Embassy of Spain in Washington: www.exteriores.gob.es/Portal/en/ServiciosAlCiudadano/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Paginas/Inicio.aspx
About public health care *Seguridad Social*: www.seg-social.es/Internet_6/index.htm
A private health care insurance is a good idea.
It really is very hard. EU inmigrants get access straight away, and after them people former colonies. For some reason the US is not included as a former colony (don´t ask me why). If you have a granparent who is either from a Latin American, or EU citizen, that could be a good starting point. Otherwise.... unless you´re loaded it´s complicated to stay past the tourist/student period.
Claudia Marin go as an aupair and afterwords work
hi, graham
im 16yrs old living in london and have just finished my gcse's...... ive recently been on holiday to spain and that vacation really made me think of living the rest of my life in spain (malaga- costa del sol region) ide just like to know when is the right time for me to move there... is it after 6th form or after university... also would my acheivements collected from the university and 6th form in England count in spain? p.s i know life wont be exactly like the holiday but during my time there i really enjoyed the surroundings in that i loved the weather, the people , the culture , food, beaches, and in generall how much more value i can get for my money compared to london.... would really appreciate any feedback or advice thanks and also ive started learning spanish
+Andre Fernandes Hello! Don't worry about your achievements, they count in Spain, I'm a Spanish who has moved to Germany for at least some years, in my opinion you should study the good and bad things of moving to Spain, there are some good points like the food or the weather, but you should know that getting a job in Spain it's pretty hard, also surely you will collect less money than in the UK. I think that you should keep making your life there in the UK ann if in some years the situation in Spain is at least a bit better and you can get a job that likes you it's a good idea to moving there, I love my country, but don't be fooled by a holidays.
Good luck my English friend, I wish you the best of luck :D.
Jam Nuka thanks a lot, my friend :)
Dang... So you havent find any job opportunities in Spain? Is it still so messed up?
Thirsty i have a job and many other offers and oportunities. Look for custumer service, exports/ imports, etc..... exports are increasing incredibly. Second country with highest GDP dedicated to exports after Germany. There are many oportunities
What kind of exports?
This is my feeling about it... immersion before you go is the way ...the brits are still being brits..and now its 6 years later... .i think you either are an insular brit or you are not...and i don't view myself as such, and YOU so clearly are not!!
@familyinspain :-)
British men seem to speak with a defensive tone often. Do they think they will be challenged or swatted at? Is that Britishness?
What a strange comment. Maybe it’s just how we are
Graham Hunt not strange at all. Unusual perhaps.
If I was moving to Europe, No seria Espania.
Up to you mate there is no obligation. However some advice in life. I believe the Ñ is alt-164 on a PC ;-)
Graham Hunt jajaja great reply
