your sense of editing and style scratched a part of my brain I didn't even know I like. the slow but certain way you spoke made the video seem a lot longer (in a good way) then it really did. I hope to see more of this kind of video from you in the future

Never seen such an editing, it's fresh, it's new, and very surprisingly from a small RUclipsr (I mean 600 subs is a lot but you rarely get recommendations from such small channels). I hope to see your channel growing.
not going to lie, this was an extremely interesting video. As a Linux user myself, not only was the video informative, but it also showed the processes for every change and was explained really well. I am a massive fan of this editing style, it is actually really well produced and definitely has had thought put into the cinematography of the video. The whole aesthetic of the video is sort of a modern but retro crossover - the style seems to be really unique but also seems familiar, or at least it seems to be portrayed like that anyway. It seems almost nostalgic. truly a mythical recommendations pull.
You say "you can't mess up Windows this bad". Well, maybe not anymore, but this is unironically what my early attempts at customizing Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 desktops looked like. It may sound like I'm exaggerating, but anyone who was a child with a questionable sense of aesthetics during the Win3.1 and Win95/98 era knows just how chaotic and unfettered the settings it let you choose were. Hell, even the "normal" settings and themes were gaudy and obnoxious by today's standards. I mean, consider that it was perfectly typical to have sounds play for everything. And I mean _everything._ Pressing the start button, double-clicking an icon, maximizing/minimizing a window - if it was something you could click on, you could bet there'd be a sound to go along with it. Even the bloody screensavers played sounds. It's crazy to think that would have ever been considered tolerable, let alone charming. It was, after all, the era when "multimedia" computing was such a novelty that everyone was too dazzled by the little dopamine hits of their computer playing sounds when they clicked stuff to find it annoying. Anyway, you said you'd post those dotfiles if someone asked?

I would like to add that this much contrast makes it someone's favourite desktop. You want horrible? Truly awful? Something that Invades you and makes you feel like a parasite on your own skin? Contrast is the key, or lack there is off. It's a door with no key... But if you can make things uncomfortable, slightly different sizes, boring fonts but many fights together that don't combine etc. I think that would be the ugliest think possible. Point being, minimising contrast is the way to achieve something so amazingly ugly, that it makes the skeleton in your body try to run away from it.
The thing to make it more ugly would be mixing themes to create more inconsistencies. I wonder of it would be possible to install a lot of GTK and QT themes and then select randomly one for every app opened.
I would hate using this. But this is the kind of ugliness that's almost kinda a vibe you'd find at some motel you plan to never go back to. something that's definitely going to stick with you, and is almost kinda beautiful. You'd never want to spend a second night there, but that one night before continuing on your way is almost... a foggy dream you can't forget.
