My old stomping grounds. Main advantage is how close to the city it is. Good for someone new to 4x4 testing their truck. And as you saw, be careful after big rains. But things to discover include The Hidden Forest, a free campground, and fossil shells. Probably best to avoid in summertime ;)
@@MiguelGarcia-vj7oo It's a few miles out on Mormon Well Rd. Can't recall exact spot, but there's a large cave to the North, about 15 minute hike off the road (no trail). Shells are not in the cave, though. Also, an easier spot to reach is right behind Trigono Hills Park on the West side of the city (Summerlin). There's fossil shells, which requires some scrambling up sharp rocks. Recommend gloves for this one.
In early June we rode all 70 miles of Alamo Rd from Corn Creek to 93. No issues other than some soft ground near the lake bed. It is desolate so I wouldn't expect a rescue if you become stranded. Plan accordingly.
I've been thinking about heading down Mormon Well to do the Gass Peak trail, thanks for talking about it! I'm curious about Rocky Gap Rd inside Red Rock, too. it's right there by Willow Springs trail but requires high clearance. Keep up the good work!!
Gass Peak trail is pretty quick to get to, weve been meaning to hike to Gass Peak for some time now and just haventt made it. We did Rocky Gap road 7 years ago in a stock jeep wrangler, we found the easiest way to get through though😅
@@austinandsam it’s right behind Frenchman Mountain on the east side of town! There are 3 trails that go behind the mountain, Kodachrome road, Rainbow Gardens and Lava Butte. I think you guys would love it all 3! Not too far out of town and definitely some impressive scenery and geological features, well worth checking out! 🤙 🏜️
Absolutely love it! Thank you for putting this together and sharing your experience.

Which road exactly are their fossil shells? I have kids into prehistoric stuff and I already took them to the trilobite site at Frenchman mountain.

The end of Gass peak road overlooks the city, its a fantastic view. We make that our lunch time stop when are off in that area.
I was just up Mormon Wells a month ago, road was great, no effects from the heavy rains. Been up there 3 times in the last year.
Cool thanks gonna go from Garberville to Vegas off road

The desert is so peaceful. I do some camping along the Eastern Sierra route.
That area looks really nice. Only problem is Las Vegas.
Great to the point video. What map are you using?
We use Benchmark Maps, love them and have NV, CA, UT and AZ. Got them all at REI
let's hit some trails!
I’m down! I’m new to 4x4 experiences!
Great video! You guys should do a rainbow gardens video next!
Thank you! Haven’t heard of Rainbow Gardens, what is it?
