Along with gene Watson Hank was so underated, I got to see both of them live in 1979 gene was at church street station when he launched what I consider to be his best song , Carmen, and saw Hank at the Opry, an experience I will always remember, what a tradgedy that we will never get to see them again , cheers from Tasmania
Hank Thompson. One of the best real country artists. Great band and Bert Rivera on pedal steel. Today"s so called "Country Music" is not even close. It's not Country, and it's not music.
That show was produced in Toronto in the 60"s. The host was movie star Rod Cameron. Hank was another great country singer I discovered as a kid in the 50's while listening to WWVA in Wheeling West Virginia late at night from Toronto. Lost a lot of sleep before getting up for school in those days. Thanks halpeters. Brings back a lot of memories.
That lick at the end of the steel solo (and other spots), I assume done with the volume pedal, was that a Bert Rivera trademark? I've heard it on a few Hank Thompson recordings, and was wondering.
Cowboy, it couldn't be C6. The song's in C, and he plays a lot of licks that can only happen on the 2nd fret. I'm mainly a pedal steel guy, extended knowledge of lap tunings ain't my forte, but that means it has to be a Bb something or tuning with a lot of a Bb chord in it. A Bb6, F6 or EbMaj9 (or 11 or 13, as long as there's a 9 and Maj7)
I dunno.........but that steel player sure looks a lot like Bob Meadows and his name that is emblazoned on the front of his Bigsby looks more like "Meadows" to me. Just my opinion.

Sonny Dave I agree ! You echo what I have been saying for a long time. If you could only convince my wife and daughter I'd be eternally grateful !!!
This is what you call true country music!!

The Texas Legend
Hank Thompson 🎸
"Green Light" reached #7 on the country charts for Hank Thompson in 1949. He toppedit with :The New Green Light" in 1954, which hit #3.
TheNew Green Light or the original they were great. I have them both. Hank was one of the greats doing country ballads or western swing.
one of the greats, also one of the great bands too.there will never be another.
What a great artist!
I love the steel guitar in his stuff, c6 tuning maybe western swing style.
That steel guitar is cool. Three sets of strings. Never saw one of those before.
Robert Bales. He won't have to change strings in three years.lol
music to your ears
Great, thanks for posting.
Bert Rivera, steel player in this video, has some recent live performances posted by jjjazzz1.

RIP Hank.
I wonder if Bert got those "whup-whup-wahhh's" with JUST a volume pedal, or was it a VOLUME/TONE pedal?
cool stuff

Hank had a full sounding band and it sounded good in stereo. He was closing in on big band sound of Spade Cooley...who was the best.
I think I read where Spade Cooley was in prison for killing his wife. Anyone know if that is true?
Hank on demand, Joy!
Bert Rivera sure could smoke that steel guitar
Yes -enjoy the video % 'er Marc.

sounds like "The new green light" The original green light was slower
check second comment above, it is Bert Rivera.
Hal Peters
Those boys sure could dress, not like what they do today. I'll bet that suit of Merle Travis with all that Gibson special work cost a lot of money.

This would have been a good Jim Reeves song. Wish he had recorded it.
meter-breaking bastard, LOL. Guys I worked with did him better than he did himself.
