My little one doesn’t like to be forced to color. She knows her colors, so I let her choose the colors she wants instead of the assigned color. I also let her stop if she doesn’t want to color it. She gets plenty of cutting, pasting and coloring in her free time. I noticed when she felt forced, she does not try at all.

We use Abeka Academy and LOVE it! My daughter started at age 4 and was reading within 2 months! Now I have my 3 youngest kiddos in Abeka. My youngest is now 3 and I am doing his preschool parent led, since the Academy doesn't offer preschool classes. 😅
As far as sticking them in front of a computer for 6-8 hours a day, that is simply not true! My 2nd Grade daughter can complete all her classes within 3 hours max. And she loves her school and her class!
We also do Bible all together while we eat breakfast. We use the DVD's, so I turn on Bible on the TV and my kids listen and watch while they eat breakfast. We also cut out reading circles on video, and my kids do reading circle together and Activity time (the Science, History, Health, Art etc) together! As with anything regarding homeschooling you can adapt the curriculum to suit your family's needs. You don't HAVE to do every class, worksheet etc.
As a busy Mom to 6 kids (and a granddaughter!), I simply don't have time to teach each child individually and for us, Abeka Academy is a God send! I still do lots of teaching, (History, science, reading, review, spelling etc), but the video classes allow me to homeschool multiple children, while knowing they are getting a solid, Christian education.
One last thing, you can choose either Accredited or Unaccredited for the Academy. We've used both and the Accredited is the only one that requires completing every class, every worksheet, sending in all the quizzes and tests, etc. Unaccredited gives you much more freedom, you can pick and choose what classes, what worksheets... essentially what you want your child to focus on and learn. Accredited is a great option for families who like the accountability or want their child to receive actual report cards and have transcripts etc.
I just wanted to share our experience with the Abeka Academy and let you and others know that it really isn't this archaic, "lock them in a room, in front of a screen all day", thing. 😊 It really is an excellent program and very helpful for many families. But that's the beauty of Homeschooling! There's options for everyone and curriculum that work for all different families and situations! If I only had one child, I'd probably do parent- led too! 😊

Thank you for this video! You are fun and informative to listen to! My son is doing a combination of Abeka and another curriculum for Pre-K. He is also 3 and also had severe speech delays due to a bunch of health issues when he was a baby.
We are going to use strictly Abeka once he hits K4, but for now because of his speech delays we're mostly focusing on Bible, & learning the basics: letters, numbers, shapes, etc. We also stick to about 15 minutes a day and my son is also thriving!
I'm so happy Abeka has worked so well for your daughter! What a blessing! I'm going to subscribe and hope to find some updates on how things are going for you now!
Thanks again for the great video! I was interested in hearing what others had to say about the Abeka Pre-k curriculum and there aren't many videos on it! ❤

I love this video! I do have one suggestion that could help with the weekly schedule not matching up with holidays, etc.. Some curriculums do not go in alphabetical order, and still use the letter per week model. Of course you still recite the A, B, C's, however, the randomization could assist you with this con. I have worked in a preschool for a number of years and have seen both ways work well.
FYI, I was investigating this program and thought this was extremely helpful. Thank you for the review,

Great idea!! I kinda wish I had thought of that 2 years ago haha. We officially finish this curriculum in 2 weeks and I loved it! I would highly recommend it. My daughter has learned so much I feel confident starting Kindergarten in the fall.

I just love your videos! I swear in life we'd be besties; just turned on my notifications for your channel.
We've been using the preschool Abeka with our daughter as well and started when she was 2.5yrs as well. Our son who is in 4th we still use their language program.
I love that you offer her options, as a former preschool teacher, giving them choices is so good for their conference.
Get to feeling better soon. 💜

Awe thank you!! Someone pointed out to me a while ago that options make the day go smoother at this age so I've been trying haha.

When we have a holiday; I have her do a little extra each of the other days so we can finish the weeks work. ( I have her do the xtra in the afternoon)

Thats what we do too but I do wish we could just shift the lessons like you can with older grades and other options. We had some REALLY full days with only a 2 day week for Thanksgiving.

I am glad to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t do all of the xtra stuff. My little one is 3 also. This is her first year with Abeka. We did something else last year and it wasn’t challenging enough.

For an FYI My Fathers World offers a four day week and so does Sonlight. And My Fathers World holds its holiday unit out separate so it falls when you want it to.

Home school should give kids the opportunity to explore their natural and God given gifts/abilities/interests.

We are looking at TGTB pre school but not sure what we want to use for my daughter. We are using play based learning at the moment. We love open and go curriculum!!! I paraphrase as well. 15 mins is about age appropriate for pre schoolers. We do that for listening activities as well. Crafts can take longer in our home but it depends on my daughter’s creativity, she’s a perfectionist. With my older daughter at 2 we worked on 7 existing. She got there tho. We are in love with TGTB at the older levels and we have cons. We love flexible curriculums. We are moving to Australia so the flexibility may be an issue if it’s seasonal. We don’t do colouring in we do drawing. We wait to order and we don’t like classroom based activities.

I personally didn't like the lack of structure in TGTB preschool when I looked at the old one. I know myself and I would fail without a regiment and schedule lol. I'm def considering TGTB when she's older but I love the look of Abeka phonics. Crafts def take longer here too and she actually just started drawing on her own, we had to put a dog down recently and now she keeps drawing pictures of him to give me. It's so cute but also so sad. I'm so jealous you're moving to Australia!! That sounds like so much fun.

Is the curriculum focused around faith? Or is that only if you buy the Bible curriculum?
