  • I saw a couple of the HOBIE livewells that cost $300 - 450 and decided I did not want to spend that much so using some parts & pieces that I got from the Goodwill & Yard Sales over time I built my own portable livewell for less than $10... If you want to build one like mine it'll cost you about $150. Here's a break down.
$50 Dog food container (stack-n-stor is $25 for the 40 size but it'S flimsy)
$20 Bubbler (Frabill brand with a light)
    $15 Rod holders (use 1 1/2" PVC)
$5 set of 3/8" pad eyes
$46 3/4" x 27" x 12" king Starboard (use dollar tree cutting boards and make angled bracing underneath)
    $00 couple hours of time.

I've added an aquarium stone to the end of the hose and wrapped the base of the stone with lead solder to hold it down.

A gallon of water weighs about 8 pounds so calculate that into the factor.
I put the water in it at the fishing site so I'm not carrying the extra weight on the way.
In this vid I haven't added a carry handle yet so I keep the top open and carry it from the upper lip
