Maaan ! I wish that I could have been there to sing for them during their practice. Ed's guitar sounds better like that, with less gain -- he's sounding like classic Ed again -- I like it !!!
MyworstEnemy You know it bro. When I was young, I used to crank the gain and everything right up, then I was thinking, why does my tone sound "fuzzy" on the lower strings all the time ? Then I started turning it down a bit at a time until I hit that "sweet-spot". Then I started actually hearing the strings, pickups and most importantly, the wood of the guitar breathe, to get that "brown sound" -- and everything has been better ever since.
As long as this lineup keeps digging deeper into the first six albums all will be ok. DLR should not reach for the tenor range but it's alright. And Wolfie should lay back his groove like a 70s era bassist would, but it's alright. This line up is great and I hope for more albums because ADKOT was awesome! IMO.

This band is dead to me today. And I had EVH posters on my wall in the early 80s. That overweight Wolfgang playing bass with Cheetos stained fingers is not rock and roll.
Saw the end of their 2015 tour at The Hollywood Bowl. Poor Wolfgang has the stage presence of a potato. He's functional, which is typically not good enough for Van Halen [the band].
