This is one of my favorite Fireflight songs, with three others I really like being Unbreakable (the first song I heard from them), Stronger Than You Think and Stay Close. I remember listening to it on the radio one day and was almost instantly hooked from the start, and if not at the start then definitely at the chorus, as if nothing else that part is very catchy. While it is pretty simple like you always say simple when done well can work better than complex done poorly, and in this case it definitely does work. I also like the story of the MV where despite having a rough start & facing setback from her family her hard work and dedication was noticed by someone and they helped her out at her lowest point which allowed her to recover and go onto to do great things as a violinist focused musician if that makes sense.
When I first found Fireflight I was originally very impressed, but then I became keen of common formula. They do have songs that introduce unique elements, but I believe their most popular songs resemble the typical format. So, we'll see if any of those make their way through the que.
This is one of the reactions I was looking forward to but couldn't remember what month it was coming out lol! I love the opening of this song with the strings, the chorus and the bridge. I would probably give it around an 8.5 cuz I love the lyrics too, very inspirational! This whole album is great, not a bad song to be found on it! Dawn's vocals always sound very clean and clear to me as well. Metallica released a brand new single today called Lux Aeterna that is fantastic too.
MBRail here Dave, just on a different account cause I use this one more these days. Glad you liked the song. I think you hit it very well in your explaination at the end, Fireflight has always been 'really good' musically but it's Dawn's GREAT voice that puts them over the top. I think I fell in love with her voice the first time I heard it and that has never changed since. The amount of power she has and the amount of time she can hold it for has always impresed me. I'm just your slightly above average sing along to the music type of singer and I can't even come close to keeping up with her in the last chorus of this song, even if I sing in a range that feels more natural to me than what she is doing 😂
@David Heritic .Fireflight has been one of my top favorite bands for going on 14 years now. 8.1 is an incredible score for this song. I was thinking 7.3-4 ish. Dawn should be happy to hear it. I wish I could help you find that "extra push" from Fireflight but that doesn't come musically. It happens more with the lyrics-- hitting the right message with just the right tone. I could make a suggestion, but without jumping the queue it will be years before you get to it (Still waiting patiently for your reaction to Falling Up-- because you ASKED for something different... anyway) So of the three songs you've done only "Unbreakable" in my personal top five from this band. "Wrapped In You Arms", "All I Need to Be", "Stay Close", and "Bury the Dead" would fit the bill. The closest Fireflight tracks to non-Firelfight even though its still obviously Fireflight tracks would be the following: - "Escape" (this is taking Dawn Michelle's vocals and running with it) - "Out of My Head" (Necessarily different as Fireflight lost founder and primary songwriting influence Justin Cox-- fairly panned by long time fans) - "Recovery Begins" (Slower track) - "Bury the Dead" (of newest album now. Not groundbreaking, but its my favorite track, so that goes for something). Of those four, it comes between "Escape" and "Bury the Dead" both on the strength of drummer Adam McMillion. I would suggest "Escape" first and if that is "meh" then "Bury the Dead"
1st time hearing from this band and color me impressed. I like the approach with the strings and you're right about the change in dynamics, think it was necessary to do something to change up what was happening and what they did was good. I like the score, not really super great but still right there on that line between great and really good. When the tools are available to you, why wouldn't you use them? It's the way it's always been, you use what's available and what we have available to us now is astounding.
Dave! You gotta check out the new Alter Bridge album, specifically "Fable of the silent son", it's an epic track along the lines of cry of achilles and the last hero so it's right up your alley with what you love from AB.
That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. It's happened to all of us. But I'll tell you if you marry the right person one day that crush will be just a distant memory.
Cool reaction, but I liked the review more) this reminded me of a trial in which David acts as both a defender and a prosecutor, step by step exposing both the advantages and disadvantages of the composition, with elements of feedback from the jury (viewers), whom he assures of his impartiality. I like this approach, but sometimes, if there are objective reasons, listening to sincere criticism from David is a solid firework of pleasure.
Dave New Metallica song has just come out Lux Eterna you gotta do this for us ASAP this is an unexpected treat its a Kill Em All feel like Hit The Lights and Fireflight is very cool band but everyone's talking new Metallica is out
NEWS ALERT DAVID...METALLICA JUST DROPPED A NEW SINGLE CALLED " LUX AETERNA". NEW ALBUM COMING OUT IN APRIL. IF THERE WAS EVER A TIME TO DO A METALLICA REVIEW. VERY HIT THE LIGHTS/KILLING TIME VIBS.
hahaha...Funny review, Dave! Despite their "dynamics", they're not particularly dynamic?! hmm...I couldn't agree more! The production was...careful! hehehe...I really like the character of the vocalist's voice. I think I mentioned on the earlier song I thought the backup band was generic. Gee...what other suggestions have I forgotten about! hahaha...I have my reasons...hehe...Really nice review, Dave! Why does your score always seem really really right!...I've been hypnotized! Dictators refuse to use protools, fyi.
Great reaction David. Thanks for the shout out. 🎉

I love her melodic lines. And her range is really good too. I saw fireflight live a few years back. And Dawn is amazing live.

good timing, just learned a couple days ago that my crush is dating someone... deep in the feels lately
