Kuumaarke's nervous breakdown at the end broke my heart. Just wanted to hug her....damn, I hate the Borg...
Yeah... You want to hug her but you realise you're still riddled with borg hardware and she recently got traumatised by you advancing on her...
That explains why those Borg at Starbase 1 either ignored or hesitated with Captain Kim, they must've been conflicted with contradicting information at the sight of the King's counterpart.

@@Jopsyduck I made the same guess back then. It seemed suspicious that such attention was drawn to it and I figured that meant it would be important somehow later and Kim's mirror counterpart being the king was my top theory.
@@JopsyduckThis entire chapter is becoming very predictable. I'm betting those Aetherians are actually villans or that Kumarke is an unknowing Borg Sleeper Agent and killed the King to stop him from divulging key info
@@highlordlaughterofcanada8685 Pretty good bet on the Aetherians. They sscream red flags and have a lot of similarities with something like the ORI.
Kumarke however. No she isn't a sleeper agent. Poor thing cracked under pressure and suffering ptsd. The idea of being assimilated to her especially after the abduction for earlier likely made her just simply crack.
Hale: "I need to speak to the ship's doctor about thi- oh right, the doctor was also assimilated."

i mean the kingdom, unlike the collective, is not equal. its heirarchial. Its not the collective will speaking through the queen. its literally Mirror harry Kim leading a pyramid of mind control.
@@Tyr666Thor Ok but it gets the point across, equal or not you're still just a drone, a tool to be used in the Kingdom's goals. I'm more curious as to why the Kingdom didn't slate the player to be something other than a basic drone. By this point you're a veteran of several conflicts and would posses a wealth of tactical knowledge for both ground and space warfare. Not many reasons why you wouldn't be given the same treatment as the other more independent command drones we've seen. My guess is that the Kingdom just didn't have time to do it before you were saved.

The King did also say that the PC, Team and allies would be made "very elite drones" if they lost so possibly the *kingdom* just didn't know the PC's history and acomplishments. its also possible that only willing subjects can be made Strategos like Tzen Tarak was.
Well at least Harry Kim gets promoted past Ensign in more than one universe.
honestly the most amusing part of the assimilation for me was my ex-borg character name is Five of Five.
You can see the exact moment her poor little heart exploded into a zillion pieces of trauma!
Wow, the final scene with Kumarki (spelling ??) is so well done and kind of gut wrenching to watch. Her character has been the fountain of optimism and determination throughout the story since her introduction and to see her so shaken and emotionally compromised was kinda hard to see. It's a reminder of just how new to the galactic community the Lukari really are! If this game had romance-able NPCs, she'd totally be my space wife! 🤣
She’s been naive, foolhardy and meddlesome. Didn’t feel bad for her at all. Personally this is exactly the kind of thing I’d expect of her and why I think her multiple promotions were hastily given…. But this is the Lukari after all… a species that has zero conception of the consequences of their actions.
Poor guy I have to say. They just went to stars.
In the past two years, she has experienced an ancient super civilization that wants to exterminate everyone, a true hellish creature, a mysterious creature from the other end of the Milky Way that is unstoppable like a natural disaster. And now, a horror film like semi-mechanical civilization from another universe that will completely destroy one's personality and soul.
Not long ago, she was just a scientist, but now she leading the few military forces in her race to participate in extremely exaggerated wars even for superpowers. If it were me, I would have gone crazy long ago, at least I would have resigned. But up to this point she perform well, too well. Until she saw what Mark(gamer) became. First contact, save their sun, always fight alongside her and even help reunion her race. They are very close friends. But when she saw Hale assimilated, became emotionless machine, trying to kill her. That’s the last straw.

@@Shapes_Quality_Control well, you are wrong, nothing that has happened yet was caused by the Lukari, they were just there when it happened, unlike, idk, the player character reactivating the Iconian Portal Network, for example. Though even then, it was probably due to Undine sabotage.
Your personal touches to the whole playthrough with point of view have definitely continued to make brilliant flavour, Bravo, as always.
Even his voice having that robotic borg undertone even when he had been jabbed by Dax.

The fact your character name is changed to drone is a nice touch... and all the more creepy.
The Borg UI reminds me of _Borg_ , which had John de Lancie. Narrative game that put you in a first-person perspective of a son of one of the officers who fought at Wolf 359. Q sends you back in the the body of your father, and resets you every time you get assimilated. It's also very well done.

This implies that the mirror you will become the next Borg King or Queen after the arc ends.

First of all, amazing first part of this video. Well done keeping the narration in character so to speak.
Secondly, I can't be the only one who finds the Borg King's last words very fascinating and ominous at the same time. I mean, he could have tried to beam out, self-destruct, beg for his life, scream insults, or anything villains normally do. Instead, he gives a very _earnest_ sounding appeal to his killers that we should NOT trust the Aetherians no matter what. It's honestly very frightening.
If it's one thing the Borg are known for it's not lying why lie when you can take it? I feel that we should definitely not trust the Aetherians. There is just as much a problem as the Borg Kingdom is fitting into the trop "Evelier than thou."
I still wonder if it's the Atherians that we need to be wary of or of other allies (such as the Tholians). The Tholians Assembly has been a continuous thorn in the side of both the Federation and Hale's story and aren't above attacking allies if it suits them
@@nathanielheilmann7351 i wouldn't we have to be worry about the Tholians, while a dangerous Enemy, they aren't that much bound on conquesting and are more territorial and defend what they claim it's theirs.

Oof! That was dark. On the bright side, Hale technically didn't commit any war crimes this episode.
I love that they went there with this mission. I've always wanted another Star Trek game where you can play as a Borg for an extended time. Star Trek: Borg was about as close as we got, but something like this really puts into perspective how much of a cog in a machine each drone is once assimilated.
Dude the devs really went "what if we give them the option to resist but the second time they try to do it, it doesn't work" to really drive home that that's how the Borgs work
Another thing to note is with that vinculum on your back (that you don't get to keep,) You can't sabotage yourself. It'll just keep reviving you and your team.

Okay, I can't be the only one who thinks the Borg King was Mirror Keten, can I? And Mirror Kim becoming a Kobali would certainly add to his vindictiveness.
And Kuumarke's breakdown is understandable. This is her first time facing the Borg in any significant form, and she's been nearly assimilated by them twice, the second time while wearing the face of one of her closest allies.
I just finished playing this mission and to be honest I was not expecting my team to be assimilated. I was fighting not to kill or assimilated, but given no chance. And seeing one of my favorite characters to have an emotional breakdown hurt me even more.

21:33 I could've sworn I saw one of the Borg King's parts twitch for a second. That might suggest that either it's a reaction to being shot or he's actually alive and might return to assimilate the entire multiverse.
The firsgt part of being a dron and doing drone stuff was peak gamplay, the last part of Kumarke having to shoot Kim the ing is peak drama, STO giving us the best even after all this years, Also thank you for sharing this narrative.

I was so god damn excited when I reached this part! This is, as far as I know.. The only time since Star Trek: Borg from 1996, that you've been able to play as a drone! I've always wanted something like this but I know it's almost impossible to pull off properly.
Though I could.. Maybe see STO adding a Borg Cooperative player faction at some point. I would love that and they would basically just keep this overlay but make it blue 😅

I enjoyed the borg play part primarily because the interface we see while being borg reflects the game Star Trek: Borg which was an interactive movie.
In that you can be assimilated multiple times & it involves John De Lancie playing Q.
So for me to a degree it was a bit of a nostalgia hit.

I binge watched the entire series. and I loved it ! I have been through the missions all before. but having the narration and the humor with it made them even more fun.
( I especially liked the "OH, OKAY THEY'RE SHOOTING!" And "Well, sh@t." type situations) The only time i stopped was, to play through Taken by surprise and scorpion's abyss. (I also have misgivings about our new allies.)😟
my main toon has a bug in this part of the mission. After you get converted into Mirror Borg, instead of keeping whatever uniform he's wearing beforehand, it changes out to an bared open hawaiian shirt, beach pants and bare feet. I don't have the heart to fix it. 🤣

I'm trying to remember what the Liberated Borg has in the way pf remaining implants..and what this mission does with that when you're Borgified.
what got me here was my main charcter is liberated romulan fed borg. whos original borg designation was One of Five. all my bridge officers are liberated borgs. unique borge officer female - Two of Five, liberated borg male - Three of Five, Liberated Borg reman male Four of Five, and Liberated Borg Romulan Female Five of Five. So basically I was hoping unique liberated borg dialogue here. also found it funny that they removed prime implant and swapped my good eye from one side to the other so they can have the kingdom implants. i also noticed that prime borg are green with red lights more often than not. kingdom are red with green eye lazor lights.
This series just got me into STO

WHen I did this its interesting that STO went this far I guess we get to see what Picard went through it is pretty cool this happens makes it realistic and get to feel what picard went through still like to know how the kingdom was so quiet to sneak up. Its interesting that this one with you is antiproton damage usually borg weapons are plasma interesting

And the Aetherians use Proton Weaponry.
This mission really doesn't pull its punches at all

I seriously think that these new allies these Etherians are they? that they are the main invading enemy and Starfleet and the Alliance are being blindsided, and that King Kim was warning the away team that they were the true threat - they remind me of the Iconians for some reason.
And I also think that Kuumaarke may also be hiding a few secrets yet to be unravelled
So, Xbox player here, we only have the first mission so far "mirror Borg attacking SB1" so this is more a guide for my fleet...but yeah...kumarke just...she's never killed anything...till now. That kind of trauma is not something that you can just wave away. Credit to the writing team/her VA.

Downside of this compared to the Borg game..you don't get to punch Q in the nuts. :-) (That bit, the wrong floor elevator bit, and the failure if you use the wrong hypospray setting (a plot point, so I won't spoil more than that) are my favorite scenes.)
As I said before imagine being a class-of-2409 Captain who dodged this particular bullet on his first training cruise, only for it to circle back two-and-a-half years later.
Well, I have a class-of-2409 captain that sports the same eyepiece as Seven. (She started her carreer before they updated the tutorial mission.) Until this day, noone understands how she managed to withstand the completion of her field assimilation.

That's what a LOT of folks are getting around the Aetherians are going to be the MAIN problem.
It's the 25th century, and somehow standard security detail equipment doesn't include a cardio-pulmonary monitor that raises an alarm when the person has a fright or is knocked out.
Soo borg Kim knows that the mirror universe kumaky is extreamly agressive against the borg, and we likelly just witnessed a life changing ptsd on regular kumaky to the point where she might be blindly zelous against the borg from now on and splinter off as a faction that either kills borgs or hides somewhere and kills anyone who might lead a borg to them. Or trade valuble secrets with the borg for a promise of not being assimilated.
Holy shit this mission is... dark.
there was no intro to this so i don't know where to find this mission and i don't see anything in the borg missions that look at all like it might be this mission
“I know you Harry, you’re gonna try to play the hero” might also imply that Mirror Kim prior to being assimilated was one of the better angels of the Terran Rebellion, perhaps closer to the likes of Smiley O’Brien and Ezri Tigan than the Neo-Imperialists who overtook the movement in the STO timeline; which adds imo a greater depth of tragedy to his transformation. Who knows, in another world he could’ve lived to help build the Galactic Commonwealth

They probably weren’t even trying to reference the quote, since this sounds generally intimidating, even when said without context of such an origin
As a Vulcan, assimilation was...indescribable. The logic of the Borg, no matter how controlling, is not advisable to be acceptable. My personal conclusion is it must be avoided or averted. During the experience, I was nearly on a level with my team. Emotional compromise is only one aspect. Resetting the tasks and undoing what the teams had strove to complete was both jarring and unsatisfactory. I do concur with Kuumaarke in her analysis of the situation. However, the emotional and psychological outburst was perhaps more attributed to her species' habit of embracing emotion. Nonetheless, she acted within logic. Arguably, we should have not let the King continue speaking to wend his words into our psyches while reinforcements from elsewhere were being amassed. His goading of Captain Kim and those of us returning from assimilation were decisively for delay. Yet, they were meant for further psychological injury. It is a foregone conclusion that mandatory personal re-evaluations be undertaken by all those returning from having been assimilated. I accept that fact for myself as a requirement to return to command of a starship and crew.
Ngl part of me is waiting for some kind of crazy double twist with the Aetherians.
Like, right when we think the point for them to betray us is coming, they instead do something to actually gain our trust ("our" as in the trust of the players, not just the characters), only to THEN turn around and stab us in the back.
The Aetherians seem to have close traits with the borg. The Harmony shares simplistic geometric shapes like Borg vessels. Thaseen-Fei has a halo crown behind her head just like the mirror Borg king Harry Kim. "Through Harmony, we are secure, through unity we are stronger."
I said it once and I'll say it again no one is having a good time in this episode and do I blame them no. If I had to run around in a borg cube and then end up being assimilated by mirror borg. I'd probably be a little irritable by the end of this mission too.
That's not just Mirror Kim, that potentially looks like a Mirror Kobali Kim I think..? So... Mirror Kim COULD also still be running around.
The head makeup of borg queens has always looked like Kobali.

Hmm... It's very interesting that Dax had the hypos ready that could counter assimilation keyed directly to the Alpha Team, almost as if it was entirely part of the plan for Alpha Team to be assimilated.

Does anyone has a Link Video of "Scorpion Abyss" Mission where you played as a Liberated Borg Captain?
So, I made my main toon when the 25th century Starfleet tutorial was still fighting the Klingons and *then* the Borg, BUT I consider the current version of the 25th century Starfleet tutorial to be the one that's *actually* canon to his story since it's the canon story to the actual game.
The reason I bring this up is that I basically roleplay my main toon as having a deep-seated fear of being assimilated that was heavily reinforced by his experience during that first training cruise. So needless to say, I had a lot of fun with this story.
