Drilled right at 100 acres with mine back in October. Pulled it out of a retired Farmers barn. The JD dealer had a few parts left on the shelf so I bought all of them and after a little welding on it it doesn't miss a beat.
I know this has probably already been said, but a quick Google search can yield a lot of parts for these old drills. My neighbor gave me a B plain grain drill, still working on it a little at a time to get it just right. Good find! I love seeing old equipment still doing work. Keep it up!
My sister still uses a very old McCormick-Deereing grain drill/grass seeder. It has steel wheels with steel spokes. It has a wooden pole! We usually use a oat/pea mixture for our cover crop. We cut it & use it as silage. We seed alfalfa/timothy/brome grass/red clover mix.
I bought a old JD Model B Drill this spring. Planted Oats and grain Sorghum with it. Taped over every other seed drop when planting the grain sorghum _ used Duct Tape.worked great
We always did the same thing with oats and alfalfa but we rolled the oat fields right after planting. I didn’t notice if your new drill had metal rings hooked together that dragged behind the rows to help cover the seeds. Good video, thx
My dad and grandpa used a drill much older than that with steel wheels! They used it for similar jobs sowing wheat and clover or timothy seed for hay. It was paid for. Lol.
That will do you fine...We used old IH end wheel drills for a lot of years before we got a press drill then our air seeder. We still use the old drill for planting hay!
The last time I was in Spring Green, WI, was way back in the early 90s when I was in 8th Grade. We stayed overnight in one of the local schools and visited the House on the Rock.
Looked old enough to be a VAN Brunt with the galv seed boxes. The seed cups and hoses still looks good shape. I have an old JD LZ B drill, it shares a lot of parts with that drill around the seed box, cups and hoses. Mine is hoe drill type openers instead of discs, and of course has packers wheels at the back, you probably have drag chains. Your JD 4020 won't even notice its back there, when its full.
Oh, a baby drill. We're still a 6 row operation and I remember dad making me vacuum out ours every year to save seed. I remember having so much grief regarding our great plains drill on seed depth. =p No joke on old stuff just works. We used to run a 6 row air corn planter (old international back from the 80's or so). It seemed to work better than what we've got now imo.
Nice old drills. I bought a 8ft John Deere Van Brundt seed drill back in the early 90's. Great drill, paid $500 for it and all it needed was a hydraulic cylinder and some greasing. Still have it. Mine has the double disk openers on it though.
I think I have heard you and Travis talk about a farm sale some time ago and I bet it was kind of like an estate sale from the years of your Grandfather's farming. I also bet his grain drill was in that sale and now all three of you wish in hindsight that you hadn't sold it. Don't beat your self up about it because all of us have sold possessions in the past that we wish we had kept. My main one was a 1970 VW Campmobile. The worst thing about it was that it was given to me. :)
That 4020 will look spectacular on the drill! I just got a model 10 ih drill, and gonna use the 1954 super h farmall to pull it. Does this one have the fertilizer box?
welcome to the world of grain drill ownership. a John Deere grain drill is all I've ever used to plant with. someone said drills are nothing more than a controlled spill. mine gets the job done and yours will too.
my buddy gonna be looking into getting a 2nd kubota skid steer for his construction company because he finds there only one has good strong lifting compasity and price is real good for the svl75-2 wich my dealer sells the svl 75-2 a 75.2hp for $48,000 and svl 90-2 for $50,000 wich not bad for 92hp wich the deere here in pei are nuts in there price on theres a 50hp deere skid steer they wanted $89,900 wich was ouch
Michael Mac Tavish and deere doesnt make a good skid steer almost as bad as bobcat. New Holland's used to be really good, but case and neww Holland junk since fiat took over
If it was me I would put a electric actuator on to replace the hydraulic ram. Then do some wiring with the gator and use the gator to run that drill because even the 4020 is a bit overkill for that. On the other hand the 8235r would be good for RUclips views and subs
Good condition, stored inside for certain. Proper size for waterways and acreage needed to seed. Look to see attached to 4020. Now look for the roller.
Hey Ryan, I have a John Deere model "B" grain drill, working on seeding some pastures with it. I have a mix of Tymothy, Broome and Orchard grass, but don't know how to set the the drill. Can you tell me how or wear to get some books or a site online
To be honest if you came to Canada in the spring for auction sales you can get drills like those for pennies. Just no use for them here anymore, equipment like that just sits.
oh yeah love it i tested a M6-141 and M7-171 a 141.4 hp and 171hp kubota 2017 new m series love it and price is reasonable cheaper too wich my kubota selling for his retail price for a M6-141 for $60,100 and M7-171 a 171hp for $59,100 wich not bad for big hp m tractors with 6 year warranty :)and the svl75-2 he selling for $48,000 and $50,000 for svl 90-2 a 92.2hp wich aint bad here in canada pei
i wouldnt say John Deere doesn't make parts for that anymore, they make parts based on consumed volume dating back to the very early 1900's, i would check with sloans if you need any parts... jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/pdfs/PC0246.pdf
no not in canada all the john deeres discontitued all parts on older models on there markets but the older kubotas there parts still avaliable on the market wich kubota doesnt give up selling parts for older models wich are cheapest on the market wich kubota accully took over the deere tlbs
Kyle Rice I think it’s pretty much the same thing, I believe they may have made drills for Deere or Deere bought them out and kept the name for a while. We used to have a van burnt drill until a few years ago when one side of the drive gears fell apart and we couldn’t find parts. Now we have a 8200 John Deere
I was out in your neck of the woods last week at the Lancaster research farm. If you have any interest in increasing your twinning in your herd (believe it or not it's gaining traction) you should shoot me an email
Well, that was one thing you didn't have. From the picture Travis had shared, I was guessing it would be a land roller, but obviously, I was wrong. Oh well. I can admit that. While it's not the no-till drill featured in some of your videos from previous years (see: ruclips.net/video/gv8Am0gOgGM/видео.html), it'll do the job and not break the bank. Bonus: it'll be easier than walking around with a hand spreader when you're reseeding those waterways.
$750 is not much for a drill! The last one I bought was $75K and that was for a small one. ruclips.net/video/dh27xHTweCA/видео.html I pulled one like yours behind a JD 720 when I was in 9th grade. You will not need much of a tractor.
Drilled right at 100 acres with mine back in October. Pulled it out of a retired Farmers barn. The JD dealer had a few parts left on the shelf so I bought all of them and after a little welding on it it doesn't miss a beat.
Just shows you how JD makes things right & made to last...... 58 years old and still working!!! LOVE THE COLOR GREEN
Nice to see some older equipment to use on the 4020.

Northern farmer you mean to drill grass you can not drill hay :)
pieter sipma be quiet you’re stupid

Them are the best frills cheap easy to operate and works darn good

Nice buy. Keeping it simple. We have a valmar/gandy box mounted on a land roller for seeding. We quit using our drills last year.
Oh, a baby drill. We're still a 6 row operation and I remember dad making me vacuum out ours every year to save seed. I remember having so much grief regarding our great plains drill on seed depth. =p

My uncle owns the same exact model and year grain drill and we love it. Hope yours works great too
Super nice Kubota.Nice drill too.Best of luck with it.
yeah here at my dealer its for sale new for $48,000 wich not bad for a 75.2hp svl 75-2
My grandpa had that exact same seeder as well. Still sits in the shed
Minus the hydrolic ram. His is pull cord
That would look amazing on the 4020.
gotta love the good svl 75 :) the best skid steers on the market
Bought drag rings for my drill at Farm FLEET . nice drill
Awesome! I can't wait to see the 4020 on it!
Travis taking over the channel
Older is sometimes better then new !!
joe winters I
I just bought a McCormick international 16' drill about a month ago basically for the same reason you guys did. Although I got mine for $600.
John deere still does make parts for those we replaced the gears on the side last year and sloans in cuba city had them in stock
Excellent video. I got grain drill like it works very good
It looks good to be as old as it is.
I think I have heard you and Travis talk about a farm sale some time ago and I bet it was kind of like an estate sale from the years of your Grandfather's farming. Hello ryen.
Can you show us a picture of your grandpa?
We really want to see this amazing man.
Nice drill I had one just like it when I framed

Thanks for sharing Ryan...
Ryan, to bad you couldn't track your Grandpa's old drill down to buy it back.
Now that kubota skid steer is as good as they get
Daniel Thomason bull crap they are junk
Dalton Dodson yea ok...smh. the 95 is better I just mean kubota period. Definitely one of the best built, other than gehl
my buddy gonna be looking into getting a 2nd kubota skid steer for his construction company because he finds there only one has good strong lifting compasity and price is real good for the svl75-2 wich my dealer sells the svl 75-2 a 75.2hp for $48,000 and svl 90-2 for $50,000 wich not bad for 92hp wich the deere here in pei are nuts in there price on theres a 50hp deere skid steer they wanted $89,900 wich was ouch

Super smart buy. Considering no more then u have planned for it
Hey how farms work it is the best seeder money can buy
That's exactly how we loaded an ih 510 drill on my trailer except we pulled up alongside a bank by the road so it was almost a level shot on.

Do the 360 view again please I really love it having a VR Headset
Ours was matched up to an John Deere 70 LPG narrow front rollamatic

Thank you for using older equipment. Are you going to use a cultipacker?
Markus Andersson not harrow...cultipacker for after they plant
Nice looking grain drill and its a john deere
Hey Ryan, I have a John Deere model "B" grain drill, working on seeding some pastures with it. I have a mix of Tymothy, Broome and Orchard grass, but don't know how to set the the drill. Can you tell me how or wear to get some books or a site online
The H Farmall would have been perfect for that job.
I use to have 3 of almost that exact same drill
Are you also going to get a different chisel plow by spring?
Keep growing the beard out, looks great
Advertisers in Green Magazine might able to get you parts if needed Ryan
Looks like you need to get the 8370 back for that one
Great vid Ryan Smile More God Bless Stay Safe Kusters 👍
How long is the stroke on the cylinder? Thank you.
How did you unload the drill? Where is the shop that Travis walked thru? Nice!
He did very good video work of loading
To be honest if you came to Canada in the spring for auction sales you can get drills like those for pennies. Just no use for them here anymore, equipment like that just sits.
Had to google "field waterway." Thanks for the vid.
Anyb[dy see that hairy monster in the back of the pickup?
Just need an old 2 cylinder to pull it. Haha Clean looking machine.
I think this would be a good job for the 82
Maybe a little overkill
I thought you guys had a jd 750? Did I miss something?
Love your vids
I like your video and nice Drill Ryan _ Connor
All that matters is that it works.
In TN we use crimson clover and oats.
Why didn't you plant some winter wheat?
We run a 50s grain drill and it is a manual drop.
Hey. We got the same drill to only about 300 bucks at an auction
CoolishBeanz they got me for $550 I just don’t have the small bins in the front like this one does :/
Got one just like it
Put it on the 4020 the seeder
The good days On the farm I
cat it be just towed on the road ??
We have a decent size case seed drill that can also do soybeans
kylewil12plays I
you should try a kubora tractor and a skid steer
Pancho Loewen Yeah if he wants it to break and not get it into gear.
oh yeah love it i tested a M6-141 and M7-171 a 141.4 hp and 171hp kubota 2017 new m series love it and price is reasonable cheaper too wich my kubota selling for his retail price for a M6-141 for $60,100 and M7-171 a 171hp for $59,100 wich not bad for big hp m tractors with 6 year warranty :)and the svl75-2 he selling for $48,000 and $50,000 for svl 90-2 a 92.2hp wich aint bad here in canada pei
Perfect job for the 4020.
kubotas starting to makeing kubota grain planters now wich is nice love new kubota stuff :)
It's a B series Drill!!
All that counts is your happy with it.
I like this video
Travis sounds just like you
why didn't you use your truck
this is a lot faster than pulling it down the road
i ment ryan to pull the trailer with his truck . That was the first part of the video
My philosophy has always been "Why paid someone to do a job you can do yourself".
It would be Nice to put the 4020 in front of that thing
I was thinking the 8235r would work good.
iowadairyboys lol
iowadairyboys lol that's probably what they will use it on with GPS. Rocket science seeding water ways LMAO
The 4020 would handle about 4 of them.
The 8235R . . . I'm not even going there. Haha
Maybe 2
Please put the 4020 on it
i wouldnt say John Deere doesn't make parts for that anymore, they make parts based on consumed volume dating back to the very early 1900's, i would check with sloans if you need any parts...

For a half a second I thought it was a van brunt

IT is a van brunt. John Deere acquired the van brunt company.
Both names appeared on the drills for a while.
emmjay I thought so but wasn’t sure so I didn’t want to put false information out there. Thanks
I was out in your neck of the woods last week at the Lancaster research farm. If you have any interest in increasing your twinning in your herd (believe it or not it's gaining traction) you should shoot me an email
It should do you just fine. You don't have a huge farm so you saved some money as well.
Do you think it might be possible that grain drill could have been your grandpa's
Well, that was one thing you didn't have. From the picture Travis had shared, I was guessing it would be a land roller, but obviously, I was wrong. Oh well. I can admit that. JOHN DEERE 8235R
as long as it works and gets the job done don't sweat the small stuff ehhh
You were like 10 minutes away
$750 is not much for a drill! The last one I bought was $75K and that was for a small one. ruclips.net/video/dh27xHTweCA/видео.html I pulled one like yours behind a JD 720 when I was in 9th grade. You will not need much of a tractor.
