  • In this Range Report I shoot and review one really interesting old gun. I do not get opportunities like this very often. This is a Winchester Model 1894 chambered in 30-30. As you know I love guns with historical significance and guns with ties to American history. This rifle has both. Being an antique I will treat it well, but I am still amazed that such an old gun still works so good and is so accurate. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences. Yours may vary.

Any suggestions for manufactured ammo for a vintage Winchester Model 94 Take-down (1894) made in 1901 in 30-30 that has a copper jacket, that I can use to fire a couple rounds through the bore to clean out some of the lead from my all lead bullets? My concern is over powering the vintage action or am I being too cautious?

I do not know. I would probably ask on some of the Winchester forums. Those guys are smart and know a lot about these.

Good morning, Jason, you have a Dirty 30, everyone should have one. They are the Red Neck assault carbine, running a 30 calibre projectile with 30grs of black powder in its historic loading. I load 30,30 with a 125 flat nose pill and they do some serious damage to feral animals and occasionally Roos🦘 who get in the way. The fact that you have one with the Octangle barrel makes it very collectable for those Winchester collectors. The lack of bluing is called Patina Cheers By the way, did you pick up the spent brass, too expensive to leave behind.

Thank you for this comment. No, I did not save the brass. Maybe I should have.

Won't matter how long a banned and "grandfathered" firearm will last when at least some of the Grandfather clauses make it impossible to pass down to your children beyond one generation. Just sayin.
