I have to say that the Stean Deck has the thumbsticks in the best position. On other portable devices they can be quite low down, for me that is not only awkward to use, but gives me cramps im my thumbs. I may buy one soon.
8:17 My main rig when Doom 3 came out barely broke 30fps when it came out in the 2000s. Its 1%s were just aweful. So crazy how my Deck OLED barely sweats at all with less than 5% the TDP my main had at the time.
I replayed Doom 2016 on Steam Deck OLED with the MangoHud 45FPS cap, 9W power limit with 700mhz GPU limit. I used 960x600 with FSR instead of the resolution scaler and I think my settings were around Medium, like I had Textures on Nightmare but Shadows on Low with self-shadows disabled, but I had great battery life with these settings and only one drop from 45fps in the Entire game.

Mr. Santiago, Bloober Team just released a performance and bug patch for Silent Hill 2 Remake. They addressed somethings for the Steam Deck, too. Can you please do a follow-up video 🙏
I love the Doom games! They’re a great stress reliever for me and they’re well optimised on console and PC! On another topic, would it be okay if you could try Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Reload on the Steam Deck?
@@SantiagoSantiago Thank you for answering my question. If you’re talking about the mainline games not available on PC that you can emulate, the only ones that need to be emulated are Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. I’ve not played the first two Persona Games yet, but I’ve heard that they have a remake on the PSP. Regardless, I appreciate your response and I hope I helped you.
@@SantiagoSantiago For what I know the og ones from the PS1 (Persona 1 Revelations, Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment) the Persona Q 1&2 (those ones are only for 3DS so for the safe of the channel skip those) and the Dancing games from the PSVita with Vita3K (P3 Dancing in Moonlight, P4 Dancing all Night and P5 Dancing all Starlight)
I think it's worth keeping in mind that 60Hz on the Steam Deck kind of looks like 120Hz at 1440p on your desktop PC. The reason being the resolution is basically cut in half in both X and Y axis on the Steam Deck. Resulting in exactly half the information gap (in terms of pixels) between each frame on the Steam Deck compared to the same movement on a large 1440p screen. I think that's the reason why the PC crowd has always shunned 30fps. I mean 1024p/1080p/1200p have been a pretty common 3D-resolutions since the mid 90s. Console games would play at 480p30fps and still look pretty smooth on CRTs. That's a far cry from what 30fps looked like on PCs at high resolution. There's just too much of an information gap in-between each frame, making movement look stuttery and frame'y even though the frame delivery is perfect.
Yeah, definitely, there's a name for that effect that I don't remember, but it's true, not sure if it's exactly 60 to 120 feel improvement, but definitely this is the reason 40 or 45 Hz stuff looks good on Deck, smaller screen ftw!
It would have been interesting if you tested the nuts wad mod which on the current gen consoles drop fps to single digits but still nice video. I also recommend to people who are interested to play Doom 3 to try the og version, I'm not a fan of the BFG edition.
I hope they update DOOM 3 BFG Edition on Steam to support the Steam Deck, (i.e automatically detecting keyboard or controller and making it playable or verified). Also Cloud Saves between Deck and PC would be nice. Why is that not in the BFG version?
Does Anyone know if GZDoom and GZDeck Still work on Steam Deck (Doesn't matter the model) mainly I can't find the .config file and if I have to play Doom... would rather use GZDoom and GZDeck so I have actual Freeaim and more mods I can use since I can't play Doom Infinite on Steam Deck currently.

seems like doom 2016 drops lower on the oled deck, very strange since it usually performs slightly better than the lcd.

personally i really enjoy Doom Eternal on 60fps cause the resolution doesnt drop as often and the game runs great!

Glossy, this is the "cheap" one that doesn't have the extra coating
