The Pietus Maximus is not based on the Jotenheim, which has a different front panel and balanced inputs and outputs. The PM is based on the Asgard 3, which is one model down from the Jotenheim.
Here is what CeeTee had to say “Pulls chassis from Jotunheim/Asgard (same size). Single ended layout from Asgard, highly regulated linear power supply from Asgard. One totally tweaked amp gain stage from Jotunheim but then totally different parts and lots of them or big ones plus fancy caps and resistors, and then a totally tweaked new “programmable output stage” that Jason discovered and may have been a discovery while making compensation circuit for eliminating crossover distortion in Class AB designs where transconductance “droop” occurs. He actually solved that problem per Bob Cordell who confirmed that Jason fixed a longstanding problem. :)” Hope that clarifies it
Schiit won't do it for some reason but I'd love a switch to turn off the headphone outputs like with Topping amps so I can listen to my powered monitors without unplugging my headphones.
Hope someone does a comparison between Pietus Maximus with Jot 2 and RebelAmp. Loved the tonality of the Piety when I had it, but it ultimately could not hang with RebelAmp or Jot 2 when it came to resolution. Maximus has potential to compete with them. Really tempted to get one and find out, but not in the market for side-grade which it can more than likely turn into.
Yeah, Honestly if you already have one of the other amps, this would just be a side grade in performance. The only reason to buy it would be if it is closer in sound signature preference for you. Which without hearing it is hard to gauge =( I personally like it more than the Jot... but, that is more of a preference thing =)
Thanks, Tyler. Would love to see a review of their JAR600 if you manage to get one in for review. BTW - what's that blue ring you're rocking? Looks pretty good. :)
I'm currently using it as a DAC and Preamp into my Naim XS3-> KEF LS50 Metas with an SVS micro sub... and it definitely is adding some character to the chain... sounds a bit more forward than when I use the Naim and TT2... a tad richer in the mids and definitely hitting harder in the lows. The imaging and stage are also quite nice...
MAN, this amp is so tempting. I just built a Whammy and TBH it's hard to beat at any price range for me when it comes to SS. Any comparisons between this and the Whammy?
I’ll plug in my whammy when I get home from dinner and respond! But off memory… the Pietus Maximus is more euphonic and has more warmth and low end to it. Whammy is more “neutral” leaning and balanced in comparison…
@@xerosphoenix well... these are dang close in performance... I used my TT2 as the DAC for both of them and just did a quick A/B swap with the same song playing... and I'd say the Whammy is more crisp in the highs and slightly more forward in the vocals, whereas the Pietus Maximus has a bit more warmth in the mids and a slightly more euphonic and holographic stage... but it isn't by much in either case. Mind you I'm doing my best to volume match as well... but not 100% accurate. Both are stupidly good... oh I was using my modded HD800 to test with. My opinion is if you are comfortable with building your own amp the Whammy is a great alternative, with a bit more highs and splash/sparkle in the highs with slightly more forward upper mids. The Pietus Maximus is plug and play and the case looks good, and it has lovely rich low end and mids, and a bit more holographic and euphonic sound signature. A bit= a tad = a smidgen = wtf I don't know its a lil bit different lol
@@TylersEclectic that's so tough. Both great amps. Guess Imma have to stick with whammy and hope for a cheap pietus in the after market. Which opamps are you using in the whammy?
Internally/physically better parts, sonically I find it more euphonic and warm… from memory I think it has better low end than the Jot, midrange is more rich… but this is from audio memory I don’t have a Jotunheim 2 on hand for direct comparison…
If I'm not mistaken (I could be) I think it's pronounced like niche, I think it's play on word to niche (Nitsch). Similar to Schiit is play on word to shit. The idea is that they sell rare niche items.... I THINK, or at least that's how I interpret it lol. On a side note, am I the only one that wish it had a silver (light grey?) knob?

Huh, I thought it was a alternative Jotunheim build, I’ll ping CeeTee and get the info

Agreed!
I can never understand why manufacturers dont include this when they're already going to the trouble of adding a pre-amp.

I’m hoping to get a JAR600 for demo on the next batch :)
The ring is a silicone one my wife got Me… not sure the brand
Have you listened to it as a preamp with speakers? If so, did all those characteristics carry over?

Is this amp good with IEMs or is it not clean enough for IEMs?
It worked with my IEMs in low gain mode… surprisingly versatile amp with the gain toggle
Thanks Tyler, did you manage to try the Atrium open with this?
I did! Great pairing! For the next video on this I’ll do more of a comparison or pairings over my normal style :)
