I hope in the full version they can add a tavern where you can sit in the corner and tell would be adventures that there's something terrible swimming in there waters.
I've developed a real taste for Lovecraftian settings because they always have rich and detailed lore to dive into, and usually an element of mystery and exploration. Looks like this game ticks all those boxes, and is just straight up a well-made and enjoyable fishing game as well! Definitely going to keep an eye on this!
this game looks cool. I'm not usually a fishing game person but this is definitely an interesting spin on it, and the style of the visuals is really nice
As long as I can't fish with dynamite, I'm not interested. :D But I love how SCG can make me understand why people might love a game that is so totally not my thing.
@@GameTimeWhy me too but the moment to moment gameplay just isnt fun, id rather have it be a point and click and focus on the story elements that are good
A navy friend of mine explained boat vs. ship. You can put a boat on a ship. You can't put a ship on a boat. Orcas,, whales, elephants, crows and octopi are people. I don't like to harm people.
Me too, great fun! I did derp for a few seconds on how to pick up debris with the trawler... But love the Lovecraftian atmosphere. Sailing at night, and seeing that approach you out of the fog.... Good stuff!
This! This is pretty much why youre the only game type channel i sub too. All those references you made for me are pure nostalgia. Disturbed water "get down with the sickness"; blue mackerel "if i was blue" and even this lil light of mine. Top quality!
I checked the store page and seems like stuff gets pretty crazy later on, but you know what would be great, what if as you grow mad the town and the townspeople start to look mutated Darkest Dungeon style? and the price and offers of what you can get for your boat change with your state of mind and with the ancient artifacts that you discover? Man that would be super rad!
I feel you, Splatty. I've seen some adorable videos of octopuses interacting with people and it makes me want to never eat them again. Also, I love the art style of this game.
Had me at the whole Lovecraftian, they seem to be doing a good job at that "atmosphere" the weird fishing village with the odd people who some of whom probably are having "UN-natural congress with creatures of the depths".
"Seems like a throw it back type deal to me" My fisherman's brain went straight to "Ah well if you don't want it I'd gladly put it in my cooler". Flounder is definitely one of my favorite fish.
I came expecting something very different. But a chill fishing game with dark aesthetics sounds good, actually gonna wishlist it. (fishlist it? sounds fishy? okay sorry). Thanks for covering this one!
Man this looks really cool. Another Indie gem to add to the wishlist! And I was sad there wasn’t an ‘Eye of Sal-mon’ joke when that spooky Panic meter thing showed up….
Notice how none of these villagers ever seem to blink; sure it could just be the still portrait art style, or perhaps they're all really human-deep one hybrids!
I love the concept of this, and the art style and SFX really hit the atmospheric nail on the head. Sadly, I think I am far too jumpy to make it through the actual gameplay so I'll just have to hope people play it on RUclips when it comes out so I can experience it vicariously instead.
Same. The panic meter kinda reminds me of Don't Starve. Will have to look into just how spoopy it is. I would've loved a laid back relaxed version a la Stardew Valley or something. Looking forward to one called Sail Forth.
18:00 oh, I love the MBARI RUclips channel, and indeed octopodes and squids are awesome! And still my most favorite cephalopod (not only because of Jules Verne), the - in German called - 'pearl boat' (Perlboot), the nautilus; two such beautiful names, fitting for such a beautiful creature.
Really been craving something like this for mobile tbh, something about the thought of curling up in bed with a lore-rich fishing game & some sunless sea vibes is uniquely appealing to me. Probably asking for a little much but one can dream, yeah? :')
Octopi and Cuttlefish are really cool animals. They are really smart, too. I heard some scientists say that the only thing holding octopi back was their short life spans. I don't know if it's true, but I like them too, Splat.
2:00 Glitched matrix Oliver Hardy scares me! And apart from that, great review as always. As so often I enthusiastically watch a review for a game that is so totally not my cup of tea, because you make me understand why other people might love it.
The mayor reminds me of Morshu, that "Lamp oil, rope, bombs, you want it? It's yours my friend!" guy. Also yeah octopodes are smart as hell, smarter than anything else I think.
They took the time to pick up your things from the wreckage and put them into a new boat, yet they just leave you lying there in the docks all night. Nice people.
They found fossilized whale bones with the bit marks of a giants squid on them. These bone were arranged in a pattern by size, rather like a piece of art.
lol you kill me sometimes man. @16:55 that sparkly indicator (like the bottle did, just to the left of the buoy ) went off a dozen times and you were so busy yammering on ya never saw it. I do dig you videos, don't let my comments mislead ya
Octopi are less aggressive than squid. Squid can and will eat you while you are still thrashing around in terror. Also they tend to hang out in groups. Octopi are more solitary and maybe will let you swim away to live another day if you don't piss them off. Thus I am okay with showing mercy to octopi. Squid should be shown the same compassion one shows mosquitos and biting flies.
Yall should check out Sunless Sea, this game is clearly inspired by it, it´s almost a copy, even though sunless sea is top down and not 3d. This looks cool and has a more cutesy look to it, but i prefer Sunless Sea which is more gritty and it embraces the lovecraftian vibe alot more. Less fishing and more creepy creatures and events. A lot of the best writers have created stories for the many islands and encounters in it aswell and it paints a beautiful picture over time, as you experience what the game has to offer. Theres also a cool dlc where you can make a submarine and experience the whole map underneath the waves and it makes it even more scary. Sunless sea deserves more recognition, its tough to get in to but thats a part of the experience
I hope in the full version they can add a tavern where you can sit in the corner and tell would be adventures that there's something terrible swimming in there waters.
Love this idea. Or just places they saw something weird, etc. so you can go explore different areas with purpose.
“But, surely it can’t be as bad as all that, you’re eyes must be playing tricks on you…”
“I know what I saw!”
I love this trope
Wow....that would be awesome for a last scene at the end of the game.
You lurk in the darkness as the car full of teens looking for fuel/directions pulls up, waiting for your moment to shine...
I've developed a real taste for Lovecraftian settings because they always have rich and detailed lore to dive into, and usually an element of mystery and exploration. To much games takes from lovecraft these days tbh...
"Everybody's talkin' about the Greater Good." Love the voice he used.

My man was literally rolling the corpses out of that bargain bin boat as Splat woke up on the dock and thought "Oh this is really convenient!"
I dunno if splat read comments or not but doesn't this feels nostalgic to sunless sea?! I felt the nostalgia.
Very much so
looks like a 3d sunless sea to me, VERY similar
THE GREATER GOOD......
I love that you off-mention the last act of Hot-Fuzz. LOL
Definitely caught my eye. Curious to see how deep it gets into the "Lovecraftian" aspect of the story.
Damn, can't wait to play this game, looks like that perfect "one more fishing day and I'll go to sleep" formula
A lot of Sunless Sea vibes, without having being built over on top of "card game" mechanics.
I tried so hard to like sunless Sea.
@@GameTimeWhy it's a fantastic game, but I have to admit what really hooked me up was the lore.
@@GameTimeWhy They could have remake it with a better UI and having the difficulty adjustable like sunless skies and it'd be selling hot again

Splat stay out all night and sail to the edges, it gets pretty knarly out there. They did a great job with the panic
I spit coffee out my nose at the disturbed joke. Dude.
A navy friend of mine explained boat vs. ship. You can put a boat on a ship. You can't put a ship on a boat.
Orcas,, whales, elephants, crows and octopi are people. I don't like to harm people.
I laughed at the OoO-wa-a-a-ah joke at the disturbed water, thank you :D
A very strong atmosphere with what looks like a well tailored gameplay loop, this is going to steal so many nights away.
4:28. My eye is twitching at the placement of that 3rd Cod 😨
I completed the demo immediately after watching this. Can't wait for the full release!

The Disturbed water wahaha made chuckle
Disturbed water, oooo wahahaha :-D Loving it.

Loved the casual "uhwahawahah" for Disturbed Water.

Can't have a "Splat plays a boat/ship focused game" without an appropriately themed shanty or two.
I love the lovecraftian direction this is taking, im hoping itll also contain cosmic horror aspects, thanks for another awesome video mate.
Love me a fishing game. Hope this has a compelling gameplay cycle.
doubt it. seems very much like a "one and done" deal
love the art style of this game for some reason!
i too enjoy the fiddly diddly inventory management...art style is really cool!

Think it says more about us than Splatt to be fair 😂

Interesting, I like the fact that the loan debt is small and not a constant sword of Damocles hanging over you
This fella washes up on the beach, and the Mayor is like that's tough bud, but ya gets back out there

That little boat is an instant smile.
Well I certainly had fun at Tim Finnegan’s wake 😂
Even though this is basically a fishing mini game I like this game.
Catch and release is a thing, you can still enjoy fishing. Interesting game.
You are right, sir. The difference between a ship and a boat is that a ship can carry and other boats. That is definitely not a ship.
very nice game, I like how it slowly opens up the progression and options.. definitely on my radar !
Oh Man! I've been watching this for a couple years now!
That's two open world RPG's with horror focus...Dread Delusion and now Dredge...lotta D's....Everyone like D's...De's nuts!
