I've been watching this guy for a while. He ended the the free build online to start a branch on Steam, and it's looking really, really good. To be fair, he worked on it for years before it went to steam. This is easily going to be one of the games everyone plays when it comes out.
dang sucks that one got droped near completly but that one is lovable also i do like how this and avorion BOTH have made their logo into ships (as both games are space ship based) *nearly exploads from seeing that station*
19:08 Gold would be very valuable in space, because it is conductive but non-corroding for use in vacuum-accessible circuitry, and it's also whats applied in molecular thickness coatings to protect from blinding solar radiation on space suits for EVA and receiver dishes for better reflectivity of all kinds of EM frequencies. The whole mirror assembly of the JWST is gold plated. Plus it's not a metal that cold welds itself in vacuum because it's normally non-oxidizing in earth atmosphere.
Gold is useful, but so is, say, coal. The question is how rare it is, ie supply vs demand. In space, there is a lot of gold. What there isn't a lot of is, say, lithium, which presumably one needs for the batteries.
I was thinking the same thing. But even given infinite quantities of everything, only like .01% of a ship is gold. Even if everything you make is gold plated, you still only need 1% as much as the steel you need. Gold is too brittle for structural, so you literally cannot use it for more than detail work,
IIRC, Those Ion lasers get stronger when you build them in series. You can join 2 together before you start getting diminishing returns. But you can also use focusing crystals to focus *those* together. I remember building ships that just had 40-50 Ion lasers focused down into 1-2 beams, that would shred capitol ships in seconds. I can't wait to try the new build!
Wow. The last time I looked at Cosmoteer, those focusing crystals didn't exist yet although I imagined that something like them ought to be added into the game. Nice to know that they've been added.
Man this game has come a long way. According to steam I had it on my wish-list for 4 years now. Back then it didn't have nearly as much functionality. I'm pretty exited now.
It was pretty well developed in terms of the core combat loop back then, but it lacked a main/economy/quest/overarching game loop to tie things together. It looks like that is exactly what's been implemented. I'm downloading the brand new demo as I type.
@@r3dp9 Yeah, the combat and shipbuilding was pretty good back then already and it looks like they didn't change much there other than adding different resources. Now i see the progress and oooo maaan... this looks sooo cool. I was really sad when i found out i cant play your version of the game because its closed beta test. Sooo lets just keep waiting i guess... And hope for some oportunity to get it sooner :D
Been following this game for a while now, it's exciting to see it progress this far. The amount of polish, just within this steam demo, is quite astonishing. I've already sunk hours upon hours into the earlier demo. Can't wait to try this when it comes out into EA.
The ship building looks like a perfect balance. Simple to learn but highly customizable. You could spend a lot of time getting every detail right but you don't seem to have to.
The big limitation in the free (vanilla) version was the range and damage of weapons compared to the size of ship you could build -- your ship could be bigger than the range of its own weapons... There were tons of mods that added more, better weapons (as well as every other type of part) for the free/beta version of the game. The actual gameplay seems to have improved significantly from the last beta version I played (0.15.12b)
Dude can you play this as a series? I loved watching you play this, plus your the only one playing this that I enjoy hearing talk, your just that good.
I’ve been following this game for a decent amount of times, the most fun you’d get from this game is definitely the community, the mods, the ships people share etc., it’s simply beautiful
design is mostly about "module specialization/optimization" ie : if you want missiles then create a sector that specializes on doing that (how many launchers, factories, shields, barracks, etc.. per generator) and then seal it off from the rest of the ship. with that in mind you can get very compact and robust designs against cascading failures incurred from damages, while optimizing area available to maximize damage output.
For those not aware, the demo has been updated with the new career mode. The demo now has some ship modules which are no longer available (says not in demo).
One thing I think would be awesome to have is 'ship designer' where we could design our ship and save it like a blue print so we can figure out 1st what goes where and than slam it on grid so we know exactly what to build where. I'm sure people have thousands of ideas they would love to share via this system and Steam Workshop would blow away with cool ships people could share!
@@Solusphere Good News! While there is no steam workshop the game does have an official discord server with channels for uploading ship designs! All ships can be saved as a PNG and then can be drag and dropped into the game as blueprints! (As of the classic demo as far as I know)
Holy crap this is my jam. The only thing that I can see that I don't think I would like is the instant building. I'm one of those people that will not touch creative mode in minecraft because I want the satisfaction of having mined and built everything myself, from scratch. That being said, this looks like a 2d Space Engineers with actually combat and I am SO down for this!
reminds me of the ship designer in highfleet, down to the need to fit the thruster and armor, except in highfleet getting hit was a lot more dangerous if there's no armor between your ship's volatile parts and the shells and missiles coming at you since they tend to burn, or explode.
Not sure if the dev's will patch this on release, but mining lasers can fire through your armor plating and have decent range. You can build a thick armor shell around the front of your ship and put 2 or 3 mining lasers behind it. Slow, but effective against lighter craft. Missile launchers are good broadside weapons, as the missiles themselves are fire-and-forget, so they'll hammer into anything 'out front'. And make sure to have energy blasters (only batteries required) and a shield guarding the rear thrusters. Some enemy fighters are really fast, and you cannot outrun them if your cannon's run dry
Check out space engineers, has the custom shipbuilding of cosmoteer with optional NPC economy trading as well as defense from NPC drones, all being 3D with realistic physics and multiplayer support. Imo the best combination of cosmoteer and star citizen.
I could see gold as still being worth a lot in a space age just due to it being one of the heavier elements even with its abundance. Weight is equivalent to thrust need so to transport large amounts would require lots of thrust.
I played it before also. I agree it looks way better and cant wait to play it. If the developer reads this or you message them, they've done a great job on it.
Oh man, this game has seen some incredible improvements... I played it back when it first became popular, and even back then it was fun, if somewhat repetitive. Sadly, a puppy and a child have made my time with video games far less than before... XP

12:33 Do note that you have to destroy enough cockpits for the enemy ship to run out of Command Points, or destroy all reactors, or destroy all thrusters.
