Brad Smith from New Mexico made me this gorgeous Osage selfbow this past year. Not the greatest shooting by any means but it is what it is. The main thing was to shoot this beautiful bow.
Hello Jeff. Hope you and yours are doing fine. Sure miss the fine videos that you and your family put up. Supreme Archery Videos. Many thanks, for all the work demonstrating, your talents. With traditional archery equipment. And being a great Dad. It's been a real pleasure sir.
@@joenelson4193 Excellent! His channel was one of my favorites. I knew he had battled some form of cancer that, fortunately, had gone into remission, but I feared that it may have returned. So glad to know that such a cool man, involved Dad and superb ambassador for the sport is alive and doing well. Still, I sure wish he'd make at least a short cameo appearence on RUclips. Jeff, you are misssed; not that you know much about missing things, namely targets.
Your the best teacher when it comes to traditional bows. Your video's helped my shooting a bunch. I've been use a recurve now for 6 years. My compound bow hang on the wall. And I take deer every season with traditional gear. God bless buddy.
I remember watching a video where you described the Push Pull method. Pushing the grip away as you pull the string back trying to keep the entire string in line with the arrow. And then picking that tiny spot and staying focused! I appreciate the fact that you don't bombard the tubes with archery videos as the ones that need to be seen are already made. Sometimes less is more.
Though you may not be posting videos right now, know that your past videos are still inspiring those of us who watch them. I shot some of my first self thrown aerial discs and swinging bottles last night mostly due to the inspiration I have gotten from your videos. I really think this is helping me to truly learn to shoot instinctively. Not enough time to consciously think about it. Thanks for all the help that you have given those of us who have followed you over the years.
Not having seen a new video from Jeff Kavanagh in over 2 years and knowing that he had recovered from a battle with cancer, I am left wondering if he is still with us. I sincerely hope he is just too busy with other things and is doing fine. If anyone has any knowledge of Jeff's current status, I'm sure many here would like to know. Thanks and best wished to all.
Also appreciate what you have given us and hope everything is ok. Your tips have helped my shot and have helped me to shoot some monster bucks. Hope all is well. Thank you
I've gone full circle in the archery world myself. I'm now making my own selfbows from hickory off my property in the Ozark hills of Missouri. Nothing more gratifying than taking a deer with a bow you made yourself from a tree off your own land. I have osage staves drying for my next selfbow. I'd love to see more shooting videos of your beautiful selfbow.
I saw your comment from some time ago below and I understand you're not doing archery vids anymore. I hope all is well with you. I'm gonna enjoy the other vids you've done as I'm a new archer at 51 and I've learned quite a bit from the dozen or so vids I've watched so far. I don't know if anyone has suggested to you before but you should write a book on instinctive archery. You have a huge amount of first hand, practical knowledge that really should be documented. I think you'd do a lot for the sport and you'd help a lot of folks like me. Good luck and be well, Sir!
Hello Jeff. Sadly I only recently found out about your channel, but I have already fallen in love with your videos. Hope when you are reading this you will be fine and healthy. I wish you health and happiness for you and the ones you love.
beautiful bow, glad to see a new video, and see for new shooters you taught a lesson everyone misses once in awhile you never know when something will happen and you flinch hope all is well
For those of you wondering where Jeff Kavanagh is, I don’t have a definite answer, but I see an Instagram account with regularly updates @Jeff.Kavanagh.9 it seems he’s alive and well!
Mr. Smith did an excellent job there for you. I think you will very much enjoy shooting off your hand. It is strange at first, but you will become used to it in a short time. I would like to see more videos of you shooting this and maybe other self bows. Be blessed my friend.
great to see another video from you jeff i hope all is well. i must thank you as your videos have taught me everything and within a year i can pretty much hit anything i can see kudos Jeff Kavanagh robin hood aint got nothin on you
hi Jeff, sadly i am now unable to continue archery. i hope that you and your loved ones are ok? been a looooong time since your last vid. A lot can happen.....i know from experience BUT I hope you are ok. you were an inspiration to me. God bless. best wishes
Hey Jeff. I just found out that you were cross eye dominant, just like me! you inspired me. thank you so much for making these videos. I hope you come back soon.
Just now watching a Grizzly Jim video and he is mentioning discussions you’ve had and hints you have given him. Reminded me we are missing you and your videos. Hope you and your family are doing well. God speed my friend.
Thanks for your speedy reply. Good to know all is well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your internet service improves. I’ve learned a lot from your vids.
Beautiful looking bow and a self bow. There is something primeval about a bow made from one piece of wood. Also just seems to show off how good a bowyer is for some reason. Any new videos in the pipeline at all
I think my home made arrows are more a hindrance to precision shooting, than my home made self-bows. To me it's more fun to shoot with bows and arrows I've made my self than to use modern equipment.
Hello Jeff! I’ve watched all your videos and I really enjoyed them! And also your video helped me to improve my instinctive archery. I have question I hope you can answer for me. Is there any advice, tips for making target?? I’d like to make target that you were using in trick shoot video. I have tried to make target but it didn’t fly well when I threw it in the air. Cheers
Must be something about living in Ontario, shooting bows , doing jiu jitsu and getting injured. Your elbow and my knee... I know how you feel. That barn door is still hard to hit but keep trying... Great videos as always... would love to see a video when you are hunting.... Cheers
hi Jeff. love your vids and you are super helpful person that looks very kind. however, where is your anchor? mine is just below my cheek bone is that ok. thank you and take care
Brad backed it with sinew from a deer he got. If you look at the photo you can see the arrow hole from where he shot it. He put it there for good luck.
Hi Jeff, question about the kodiak magnum 52". Do you think this short bow would handle a 31" draw ? Ive seen your video on the super Kodiak 48" would the 52" be twitchy to shoot ?
knife sharpening norway I second the bear Montana but it doesn't make a big difference longbow is slightly more forgiving than recurve but its not a big difference. I would go to a bow shop and see which feels better in your hands. Recurve has more of a pistol grip.
Yes Ed everything is fine. Thank-you for the kind words and thoughts. I just have really crummy internet here and it is too difficult to try and upload anything so I have stopped trying for now.
I see below that you're not shooting lately but thought I'd try to tempt you into a comment. I'm considering a 30# Bear Montana as my first try at traditional archery. I have a little past experience with a compound but its been a long time. I have considered buying one of the inexpensive recurves that are out there but honestly just feel like the Montana has a lot more "soul". Either way best wishes to you and yours.
The Montana is a lovely bow. My kids bought themselves a 40# Montana together as one of their first bows and they still shoot it today. I have a video review of shooting it on my channel if you are interested. For myself I just wasn't having much fun with shooting any more and just am really bored with it now so I stopped. No big deal. I'm just doing other things like training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and things like that.
Thanks for the reply. Definitely understandable. It's probably a little silly to think that hobbies/interests are not going to change over time. Glad to hear you're having fun and staying active. I did a little Jiu-Jitsu myself many years ago. Just be careful with those not-quite-so young joints and tendons of yours. At the very least don't feel like you have to beat up on ALL the young guys in the class. And yeah, that Montana looks pretty sweet, I think I might have to get myself one...
I will still hunt with my bows and I will likely get back to it at some point, I have no clue when, but when I do it will just be for myself. Right now it just feels right for me not doing it. Haha at your comments on BJJ! I call it "glass arms" BJJ. Yes I am careful but no, I still try my best to beat up on all the guys 25 years younger than me but with little success. lol It's a ton of fun and I love it. I train with a really great group of guys as well as my son Will, who by the way kicks my butt!
Jeff Kavanagh Mr. Kavanagh, first off, I am grateful to you for this channel; it's become an important part of my beginner archer experience. I shoot a 35# PSE Recurve now, but I'm about to buy a 45# Bear Montana Longbow. My only real concern is the hand shock. Some people remove the leather grip for aesthetic reasons, but I'm wondering if you've found it to have hand shock, or if you think removing the grip is wise. Thank you for your videos, your commitment to the traditional archery community, and your gentlemanly conduct of the sport. I wish you the best.
Our Montana is 40# and I would say it has a very minimal hand shock not really worth mentioning. The only time I have ever noticed hand shock with it was when I had to have a surgery done on my right shoulder and I could feel the bow through that. You can take the hand grip off and put it back on again. It's all personal preference.
Jeff, I really appreciate if you tell me if the bear Super Kodiak is better or Bear Kodiak, you own both of them so I think you know which one is better in terms of overall performance?
MAN! You were SOOO close on that one shot! Another few millimeters and you would have "tubed her"!LOL Oh well, hey, Jeff, I think you need to transition from Jiu Jitsu to Yoga. I hear its a lot less painful LOL! New York Yankee
I hadn't heard that. There are probably enough of them around that you can get one other places though if you wish. I don't have anything to do with Bear. They aren't the same company they were at one time.
Bear sent me a email... it was a mistake... they left it out of the line up. They are going to change the web site and include it. I just saw the new models... and assumed they were dropping the Takedown. I knew, watching your videos. You like Bear as I do. Anyway.... sorry.... my bad. Have a great day.

Beautiful bow Jeff . I picked up my first longbow two days ago and its a different world than im used to with my recurves .
this winter I want to see you and your kids doing archery on Ice extravaganza. Trick shots on ice skates get that done.

Hi Jeff,
My favourite instinctive archer/teacher on youtube have not posted for a while? I hope things are well and you get back with some vid soon.
Hi jeff! Do you have any tips on dealing with target panic in traditional archery.
Where are you Jeff...? I pray all is well with you and yours.
im looking at starting archery. what would you recomend for a beginner a recurve or a longbow?
and any good brands and models to look for?
I would go with a longbow. Specifically the Bear Montana.
knife sharpening norway I second the bear Montana but it doesn't make a big difference longbow is slightly more forgiving than recurve but its not a big difference. I would go to a bow shop and see which feels better in your hands. Recurve has more of a pistol grip.

Hey jeff what does a bow like that cost?very interested..
Good stuff Jeff, do you find shooting that more challenging to get the same level of accuracy?
Yes it's a bit of a learning curve. Super fun though.
I had a shot of my friends self-bow today at the range too, didn't hit the boss at 30 yards haha! A bad workman blames his tools though!

Death of a Legend. Well... looks like Bear Archery for 2018... will NOT have the Takedown Kodiak in the line up !
So Sad. What idiots.
I hadn't heard that. There are probably enough of them around that you can get one other places though if you wish. I don't have anything to do with Bear. They aren't the same company they were at one time.
