You could use a centre-finder! Many moons ago when I was a school workshop technician a pupil made a circular table about a metre across. She needed to find the centre to fit a lazy Susan. KI showed her a small metal centre finder. She made a large copy with a long straight edge made from a piece of laminated mdf shelving. We kept it as a teaching aid!
If the pain of running the tap through your hand doesn’t give you the clue, the presence of blood should tip you off for certain. Those tap guides are a great idea. You also stay safe and extremely healthy!

Yes they do keep twist drills in line too, but they would start to show signs of wear quickly I think }:-)))
