I know some people say it's trash but It has to be this way there will always be haters
I recommend getting the Egg memos, they offer additional lore on the story and even reference other Sonic related stuff. Plus Eggman is just enjoyable to listen to.

I finished the game I noticed it’s really easy to grind portal gears and memory tokens from bigs fishing so next time I’ll use bigs fishing to beat the game faster next time but before I do that I still got to get the egg memos

Just a heads up Choc, if you pick High Speed Style your bounce height is set to max which is the main reason why titan fights are so jank. You're fully capable of changing it in the options tho, I'd recommend setting it around the middle so you don't feel held back by your speed

It's clear they did put a ton of effort into the game and love. There's flaws I'm sure but the effort is all there. I'd say they did good. Happy for saga fans.

Good thing you're playing on hard. There's a special boss at the end that can only be accessed in hard mode.

I thought the ending was a bit too anticlimactic when I played on normal.
You can also switch to hard mode right before you pick up the 6th emerald on the last island to get the ending.
Not going to lie, I got incredibly hyped up when Choc said "let's go!" in sync with the music saying "Go!" during the titan fight
I hope this becomes turning point for the franchise and Sonic Team finally starts to put out great Sonic games consistently
I also hope that for the sequel, Sonic Team goes all out on the Open World aspect and fleshes out the worldbuilding by giving us towns and cities with NPC we can interact with, both Mobian and Human alike.
In other words, we have to hope that they're not still afraid to give a Sonic 06 type of game another shot.

They have actually said that this game was made to lay the foundation for future Sonic games. In other words, Frontiers is planned to be the base upon which future Sonic games will be built.
If this is the base, the future is bright.
@@thegrapethief5514 They have definitely got the base down if that's the case. Lots of issues with the game, but can't deny that Sonic and Open World genre fits really naturally.
I highly suggest that you use parry during boss fights. The game doesn't mention it but it becomes pretty necessary. 90% of boss attacks can be parried and let you deal a ton of damage.
also your special attacks get upgraded versions when sonic uses them, ALL OF THEM which sometimes causes special moments.

You'd be surprised depending on what channels you stumble upon. I swear the critics of this game just find the most trivial things to nitpick. It's not a perfect game, but it's most certainly nowhere near as bad as some of these people make it out to be.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone actually lose the giganto fight. Got to hand it to choc for showing us some never before seen content
Big Tip for future titans: You can parry a good chunk of their attacks which can be followed up by a special command for more damage. You can also do cyloops for some cool stuff as well

@@HallowedKeeper_ I'm very well aware it's Roger, it sounds like him. But the deeper tone imo, doesn't fit the description nor character of Sonic in the slightest.
It's also rather strange hearing Ben and Deven's Sonic voices ( portraying him as young and full of attitude, the way he should be ) vs Roger's new take on his Sonic voice. Really strange tbh.

I like the voice direction they gave sonic and the others it feels refreshing
They feel like there real selves again. They also sound alot more older because time has actually passed after the events of the past games that happened bur I Ian Flynn is great ASF when it comes to sonic stories.

I like the look of this, I just wish Sonic would distance itself from rings as hp. It just feels anticlimactic hold onto a single ring as long as you can to avoid death.
They did sorta make it less reliable, with how your rings fly further away faster, so in many cases if you get hit you aren't gonna get them back, especially with only one
THANK YOU. This is what I've been thinking for so long. Rings as hp has NEVER been a good mechanic imo, except it was a bit more passable in the genesis era games. But now that they're adding actual combat elements to the games they need an actual hp system. There's no way you can have a "hard" difficulty with the ring system.
Posssible spoilers:
The only difficult boss was the final one for this exact reason. You get 2 lives, get hit once you lose a life, lose all lives you restart. It still wasn't a more than 4 tries boss fight for me but it was a good step in terms of actual difficulty. Overall the ring system just holds back difficulty way too much because of how cheesable the system is especially now with cyloop.

@@timklafke4712 There are still battles where you either can't cyloop for rings during the miniboss' main mechanic, or to do so you must go out of the range of the boss and then have to redo their mechanic to attack them.
it's much harder to do here though.
I've beaten the game twice so far and I never knew you could Cyloop the Asura's feet for extra gears
The way that cutscene was, I can’t help but wonder if Sega pulled a Shadow of the Colossus in this game with the role of the titans

I have to say, I am not sure how I had such an easy time with the asura boss fight. Especially once I realized as long as you just stay high you can jump back on it.
Also the egg memo's are my favorite edition. It's refreshing to hear doctor eggman be in a scientific head space.
As I've said before, this is my first sonic game since colors
And man did it not disappoint
So these are the only two you've played? At least it makes sense why this one doesn't feel too bad, but you should try playing a good one instead next

This looks incredible! I'm pleasantly surprised 😀 The Super Sonic boss battle was EPIC! The thing that's hooking me in is the story being shrouded in mystery. Who the hell is Sage? What's her back story? How did she and Eggman come to be teammates? And can we really trust the voice aiding Sonic? I don't know yet, and I'm eager to find out 😁😁😁 This playthrough is going to rock! Looking forward to the next one, Choc, glad this one is proving to be a good time 👍✌️👍

I cant speak much in terms of actual gameplay, but i love all the little nods to earlier continuity like amy’s fortune-telling and mention of other ancient civilizations using the chaos emeralds
You can usually run up the body of the giants too (the white parts) so if you fall off, you can air dash to the body and stay on
honestly, once I went into setting, and maxed out the start speed, turn speed, and turn sensetivity, the controls got a lot better. Glad you are playing on hard
I finished this game in just under 20 hours. I loved every minute of it, and I can't wait for another playthrough and a followup of some kind!
Two very important things about this game.
1: Big's fishing tokens can be exchanged for 24 Egg Memos. These are very important to the story.
2. Play the game on Hard mode, or at least change it to hard before you get the 6th emerald on the last island. You get something special, I'll just say
Good to know for the second option. Now I don’t feel so bad when I feel like I need to turn down the difficulty on some of the guardians. (I'm looking at you, Strider and your cheap shots.)

Hey Choc! Quick tip with the Asuras or getting hit in general: hold L1 and R1 (parry) the moment you get hit-- Sonic will enter stance and cancel his hit animation, then you can jump and boost back to towards the Asuras or enemy in question. Hope this helps man!
Fun fact:if you draw a infinite simbol with the cyloop you get infinite boost but for a limited time.

I've been obsessing over this game since I got it. It's a big adjustment to get used to its controls at first given that Sonic's almost always been a one or two button game before, but I'm loving it once I started wrapping my head around it.
His arsenal of attacks really makes him feel like next-gen Sonic.
What a great game, I'm having so much fun. 70€ totally worth it for what I'm playing. It feels as if it was made by another studio of developers. Dope stuff 🔥 Make sure to adjust the controls in the settings. I put accelleration to the minimum so that it has that smooth transition from walking to running gradually. If I want a quick change of pace there's the boost
Sorry you had to waste 70 for a bad game, hope the next game you get is better

OK, but for real, thing game looks hype! I've never played any Sonic games (and I don't plan on buying this one), but I've watched as Choc plays a bunch. That last battle looked like something out of Starlink: Battle for Atlas, but it has the Astral Chain soundtrack. That looked and sounded amazing!
(P.S. Choc, you should play Astral Chain, if you haven't already.)
I really hope that the potential sequel doesn't change the giant bosses at all. Figuring out how to fight them, how to play around the limitations, was the best part of the entire game. It's "jank" only so far as dropping a pen in real life is. It's not the pen's fault, it's yours for not holding it well enough.
I love how the two big games getting covered right now are Sonic Frontiers and God of war Ragnarök
Choc my dude, you can customize Sonic's speed in the settings, like his top speed, turning speed, starting speed, ETC if you want to adjust how he controls to your liking.

I have seen some players using the same moves over and over but I'm sure there is more, so I'm up for using them mid game to make it feel even better
Nah, it's a pretty simple combat system. It makes sense too, it's basically all on one single button, so there isn't actually really a combat system as much as there is just a combat button
@@Freelancer837 You can turn Auto Combo off. That's probably what you have it set to, as every move requires different inputs.
The only move I have trouble pulling off is Wild Rush, but the other moves feel very satisfying to pull off.

The game feels fun. One major buff that I hope a modder can fix; vibrant colors for the overworld and perhaps new textures for the floating platforms. You know give it a more mystic magical or natural feel to visually justify floating freely like that
The overworld really isn’t that dull… it’s honestly rather colorful, it just uses a lot of grey.
I do agree with new textures for the floating things. Make them look like they are actually floating from some kind of force.

But the contrast in transitioning from the classic like stages to the overworld is night and day; so much so that it hurts.

If it's bright and colorful it'll ruin what the game's supposed to be. This is supposed to be different then to what Sonic's used to and overall be a 'realistic' environment.

Finally a good Sonic 3D game, this game is so far amazing and I just got past the Wyvern boss and I so far think this game is so good! It’s kinda dark and emotional but balances it well, I think this game is done really well

Idk if it helps you but I set all of the control settings to 100 and the starting speed to 60 - I found it helped a lot with steering sonic, esp with Asura

I am begging, literally BEGGING Sonic Team to continue with this formula and refine it. This is easily the best 3-D Sonic game to come out since Colors. :)
The main reason you lost that first round with Giganto is because you weren't making use of the skill tree and most of the fun combat mechanics. Parrying his attacks opens him up to massive damage and making good use of the unlockable moves makes fights go much smoother, hence why the L2 shockwaves were actually hurting him. Try to get the quick loop unlocked ASAP as it opens up the combo game significantly and try to get some practice in on the loading screen training sims.
I'm only on the 2nd island myself but the game has been nothing short of great so far.

Ok Now That The Game Is Out And I Played It I’m Happy To Say That This Is Finally A Good 3D Sonic Game I Give The Game A 8/10
A part of me is wondering why I didnt experience the problems Choc did with the mini bosses. Ah well, the jank is definitely there in many places, but I agree that it is more than tolerable 🙌

The Asura bosses are pretty easy once you get a hang of it, also use the energy kick attack to damage them, it's much safer
9:51 you questioning the cement loop while the highways in the background are just spaghetti
it seems like every person i've watched in the giganto fight forget that sonic has a parry, as well as the other moves, which leads to them just spamming Sonic Boom on the boss since it seems like the only thing that does damage. Not a complaint. Just know that Super Sonic has basically the same controls and moves as base sonic, with the exception of jump and stomp being ascend and descend
The reason for that is because parrying is not too necessary in the first island, so most players only actually learn how to use it in the second island. It kind of makes it more fair in a way, try replaying the first island when you know how to parry and you'll obliterate everyone there easily.

Sonic colors is far from lackluster. Its on par with mario galaxy with how good it is. Literally one of the best sonic games

I know this is an older video: but the fishing game is the funniest thing to me. Sonic is amazed if he catches a fish or a tire, and Big is kinda in the back like “bruh”
The only settings I played on were the hardest settings possible because I wanted this game to actually be a challenge.
