I visited the DTES a few times and was humbled by the humanity and fellowship which I found. People should not judge others! Many things can happen to change our lives! My experience meeting people in DTES was both profound & life changing and helped me to appreciate what I have. Humility will come knocking on your door sooner or later! Love to all❤❤

The people who make it out of the drug/alcohol addicted world, are people that have a Solid PURPOSE, one that MUST consume them, a healthy PURPOSE. I watched my daughter, an addict, struggle with her addiction for 20 plus years, on and off. She had 5 daughters, they were her priority and PURPOSE.
She is sober now for 5 years. Her daughters keep her alive.
God Bless everyone who struggles 🙏

Nick, Thank you so much for such a Thoughtful and Educational Film on Homelessness and Addiction. I'm a recovered Heroin Addict and I see there is a lot of RUclips channels that exploit these people for veiws, money and popularity - as if their circus freaks to stare at for entertainment, rather then trying to educate people or try to help those who are suffering from this ongroing problem. It's refreshing to see this channel is not one of them. Much love from Victoria, B.C

Having grown up in Vancouver I am aware of the changes and have watched some of the typical walk throughs...Those videos are to get views and don't really do much. But your video is a completely different style - much more connected to the people living through these things and in unique way (its very good as it makes one see a different side of things in a good way). I would think if you pursued this type of content and kept this more intimate style of documentary, you'd do well with your channel - and I am sure there is no lack of ideas for content.

Dear Lord, please bless and protect those beautiful people that are homeless please put your guardian angels around them. See you to it that they’re kept warm and have food and medication. Amen.

I'm glad that that beautiful young apiary lady talked about trauma. Dr. Gabor Maté was a doctor in the downtown Eastside and he said that every one of his female addict patients was sexually abused in childhood. These people were traumatized in their developmental years. That kind of repeated trauma literally/physically changes the brain. They are not "bad apples". They are not inherently defective. They have traumatic brain injuries. And then they are reabused and exploited by more predatory abusers as adults, and by the system and people who don't understand the roots of the issues. There are many people who seem to function "better" in society who are doing their best to cope with this legacy, as well. If anyone wants to understand how trauma in childhood affects the rest of their lives, please learn about C-PTSD. Pete Walker wrote an amazing book on this subject called "C-PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving." Loved this documentary, thank you.

I lived on the streets back in the 80s . So much has changed since then . It’s amplified beyond belief and the despair is heart wrenching. This film is powerful on so many levels. Prayers for all my fellow human beings in need 🙏
What song did you use at the end of this film ?

Thanks for the kind words, truly that means a lot! The song at the end of the film is "Society" by Eddie Vedder, from the soundtrack to "Into the Wild"

My Heart goes out too all the homeless people, you make my heart sad and wish i could grab a handful of you people and just show love and understanding, i see my own people and it only breaks my heart. i hope all you people living on the street find some kind of happiness because the drugs are making your life miserable. huggs

This kind of story keeps me clean. Kinda funny, I went to Montreal when I was 19 and stayed and used for several yrs. My home is Vancouver so, I ended up coming home but I did a lot of traveling through the yrs. I lived in the dtes, I worked around the city and in the last 11 yrs put myself on methadone and it’s saved my life along with the love of my kids. These ladies and I have same stories but I’m not there anymore, I chose to b away from there, to easy to relaps for me. Bless you ladies and all other addicts fighting the good fight today.

Society changed and people stayed the same. The war on drugs is a war on us. It's just like many big cities in the United States where the rent went so high that nobody could afford to live indoors. Finland recently solved homelessness. Finland showed the whole world how to end homelessness. Hopefully other countries will soon follow suit.
