Ever heard of the term "Shop Drawings"? Most builders and remodelers are familiar with that term, most home owners are NOT.
On this episode I want to talk about why they are important in achieving all of the details in custom cabinetry.

Agree. good explanation.
The shop drawings should be the responsibility of the cabinet manufacturer. When these are provided to them, it takes away responsibility, ( unless they sign off )

4:17 it’s also can be good practice to have the general contractor guarantee the opening, (in this case, the width would be the critical dimension to hold). With this method, and with approved drawings, the cabinet maker can proceed with the shop fabricating of cabinets, and not wait for the opening to be completed. Helps with schedule and leadtimes.

“Do I need shop drawings?” Unless the cabinetmakers are going to wing it they are required to create shop drawings. Unless your implying that a homeowner needs to pay for the shop drawings.

What if it's new construction? How would he measure it, if there's nothing there. Or would you wait until something is there? But wouldn't that slow down the schedule

They would build according to main floors plan

I just stumbled on this video. I personally would recommend SketchUp. With the pro version all drawings can be produced using the included SketchUp layout.
