From Dua Lipa’s “Physical” to The Weeknd’s “In Your Eyes,” the synths and rhythm call back to the dance floors of queer clubs of color from the late ‘70s and '80s. I'm not negative! You just have no idea how many times I listen to Abel. I don't know if my ears can share another album besides After Hours right now.
I feel like we're missing a lead up here, 80's synth wave and retro wave have gained huge popularity because they're both retro and futuristic at the same time. We have no vision of our future now, there's no back to the future or KIT for our generation, so weirdly the only way to experience or dream about the future is to return to the 80's sound. That's my take.

The weeknd started off as Alternative R&B notably with very dark themes which tend not to be discussed in R&B. I've been listening to him since I was 2011 and that's what he's encompassed. As time went on he went more pop and incorporated more trap elements which is good . But at the end of the day he will still always be a R&B singer

Reverb, retro, funk, and their voices are just amazing
I'm saying. One can produce beats and such but if the voice doesn't fit the track, it just doesn't feel right. Their styles are a match made in heaven with the music they produce/make.

The world is becoming more and more obsessed with 80s culture thanks to most things of today paying homage. Because of this, the style of the 2020s is gonna a tonne of 80s aspects to it as the nostalgia began a while back. Even Dua Lipa and The Weeknd and Stranger Things has a HUGE influence on 80s nostalgia and people are beginning to adore the way the style has that 80s aesthetic. Malls, clothing such as skinny jeans and baggy clothes with neon colours, music both mainstream and vaporwave, movies, aesthetic use of polaroid photographs, and even fads like yo yos are all starting to come back too.
Even Wonder Woman 84 took the step to take in 1984! PLUS! Ghostbusters (released in 1984) is making a comeback in it's 3RD OFFICIAL MOVIE WITH THE OG CAST! How cool is that!!! Which is why our obsession with aesthetic things all liking back to the 80s is gonna become mainstream again for this decade.
