Thank you very much Dan Daniel. I've had my Sony MZ-R2 since 1994 (cost me £400), and I stopped using it probably when MP3 players started appearing in 1999 when I bought my Archos Jukebox in New York. And I didn't bother with my Sony MD for years. When I did, it played intermittently, so I put it back on a shelf. And every few years, I'd bring it out and try it again, and each time it would fail more and more. I'd Google for any solutions, but nothing. A few weeks ago, while on holiday, I Googled for any solutions, and found your video. Brillant ! Thank you very much. All seems to work perfectly. I just need to record a few songs on a new MD, and test it fully.

I'm very happy that you bring back some life in your old Sony MiniDisc; greetins from Romania, Jones.

Thank you so much for this! I just repaired one after cleaning it using the Service Menu.
FYI, if you care about "CD" MDs (the pressed media), you will also need to adjust setting 023 in a similar fashion. Mine was at 80 and I went to 88. 026 is just for MO or recordable MDs.
Now I can play both CD/MO media on the MZ-R2 again. Thanks!

I just did the menu change without opening the MZ-R2 at all and it worked a treat.

I would use contact cleaner on every flat cable. Oxidation is present & making a lot of trouble for the laser.
