Thanks! I'm all for running alternative commanders, even if they aren't as good as other ones in the same color. Makes games more unique and fun IMO :)
With all the small souces of damage i think damage multiplication would work well. Especially that 1 legendary from ixalon who makes its a solid 4 damage from any red source. On that note blood chiefs ascension would be nasty as its easy for us to set up and the life gain helps offset some of the self pings.
Those are all fantastic ideas! And they work really well in Valgavoth, since he doesn't care how much life loss there is (unlike Ob Nixilis), just that it occurs. That would be a good way to differentiate the two similar commanders from a deck building perspective.
So I'm pretty new to magic, say if an opponent loses life on their turn for reasons unrelated to my playing field. Does Valgaboth still get his +1/+1 and I still get to draw?
That is correct! Valgavoth doesn't care where the life loss comes from, so long as it happens to an opponent on their turn. So even if one of your opponents does something to make another opponent lose life on their turn, Valgavoth will get the +1/+1 counter and you'll draw a card.
It would be for the opponent who targets him. The rule text for ward states “Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless that player pays [cost].” In this case, the cost to the opponent would be 2 life.
The problem with Valgavoth is that: It only works on opponents turn Only once as well And the opponent whose turn it is, is the only one need to lose life for the ability to triggers. Making only +3/+3 draw 3 at maximum in 1 rotation
His ability is very restrictive, there's no doubt about that. That being said, it is pretty easy to get atleast 1 damage to each opponent on each of their turns, since there's a ton of "upkeep, deal 1 damage to player" type of effects. So getting the max effect (3 triggers in a rotation) isn't too difficult.
@@goergerakly1496 i think he'll work best as a control/group slug commander with an option to go face rather than a dedicated voltron commander. With no other draw sources you are getting 4 cards a turn while your opponents only get 1 each so you could better respond to threats and keep the burn going. He never needs to swing just keep them in the oven while you turn the temperature up turn after turn. And if he draws remkval over your continued burn cards all the better as its a misdirect from the real theats on your board
Don't forget, he doesn't say if YOU damage an opponent, it's just if an opponent loses life on their turn. Period. This means if other people damage your opponents you still get the trigger.
This guy is a more agressive burn deck than ob. He isnt restricted to exactly 1 damage so you can speed up the burn clock significantly. And unlike ob the cards drawn are a mystery to your opponents. That said Ob is the superior voltron commander.
I agree that Ob is better most of the time, but I also like not focusing on 1 DMG. This feels like a "meaner" version of my Yurlok deck, and I can't wait to play it
I think the question is, is this better than Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin? I'm not sure this is better but this is absolutely something that goes in the 99.
They’re different enough to be good in different situations, I think. Ob Nixilis is going to be better in more situations, but Valgavoth is better in that it doesn’t have to be exactly 1 damage and there are going to be situations where the card draw is better than the impulse. But I agree, I think Valgavoth would be great in the 99 of an Ob deck.
@@CommandersSanctum Ya i'm kinda torn the more i think about it honestly. Ox Nix seems like a "better" deck probably, but not being restricted to only 1 damage does open up alot more options as shown here. Plus you can't run Solphim, Firey Emancipation etc in Ob Nix (well you can, but they take away from his ability so probably not worth it). I wanted to build Ob Nix for a very long time but got side tracked by many other decks (and still am lol), but Valgavoth is making me possibly reconsider. I'll have to wait and see what else we get, because EVERY card that's good in Ob Nix (if you're not building CEDH anyways) is good in Valgavoth, but not the other way around xD. Either way Pestilence Tribal is here!
Just the video I needed
Love the list, and thanks for the positive video man. It's boring to see people dunking on a cool card just because it isn't broken/powercrept

I will definitely be putting solphim Mayhem Dominus into the deck to really help the opponents lose more heath than I do with all the pings
I got this precon commander and I'm not sure if a strategy of draining people down but also gaining life for it would be good.
Love the idea

Rakdos Charm is all star against go wide boards imo

is the ward cost for opponents who target him or is that for the caster?

Nice vidéo, any other commander from duskmorn soon ?
Thank you! And yep, I’m currently working on a “The Mind Render” deck tech. It’ll be out later this week!
O I'm gunna get deck

He is a good comander, but i am afraid that Obnixilies the captive kingpin is the better choice .
Ob Nixilis is going to better in pretty much every scenario, but Valgavoth is a good alternative if you want to run something different!
