I'm glad the 944 finally made it to the stage rally dirt, and Mike and Kevin had fun and didn't get hurt. I can't wait to see more of this car and this kind of content.
Rallying is by far the best demonstration of the relativity of time: on one hand, you tell yourself « eh, two minutes, we’ll make it there easy… » and somehow you have to run like hell to get in the box on time, and then , at the starting line, the last minute before going lasts ffffooooooorrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvveeeeeeeer. The best fun you can have with your clothes on, however.
Highly recommend ditching the terratrip and going to a GPS ODO app like rally tripmeter. I would also recommend upgrading seats to ones with halos, going to a diode dynamics light bar if you intend on running more night events, and zip tying your cage padding in place. An actual LSD may help calm the car down in corners. Glad to see you guys press on regardless and finish the event!
I have volunteered and have been in the rally scene for three years and this video is great! I'm glad you had a good first experience, hopefully there are more rallies to come.
17:34 Found my self. Yall were defiantly the cleanest car racing all weekend. Hope to see it next year for Sandblast, Did you see the trailcam video of yall Friday night?
Very cool! Let's get some nice audio of that screaming 07K in the next vid. I realize the weather wasn't conducive to that this time. Great learning experience.
This is such a good vid on the stresses and reality of grassroots stage rally. My friends and I are out there on shoestring budgets having the time of our lives all because we watched Nitro Circus as kids. This is such a cool build, turbo 5's are rare to see and in a 944 is even cooler. I'd love to drive a similar car
If I may make a suggestion. As a codriver I use a gps like a garmin nuvi as a backup to the terratrip. You can use it as a trip odometer and gives gps based distances. Since a terratrip is based on wheel speed, it can go way off where it should be if there is a lot of wheel spin. That has gotten me out of a jam on transits where the terratrip was off and it showed we should have already made a turn and the streets were not well labeled. The gps showed the turn was coming up by mileage and it showed the name of the street to confirm. Another use is it gives GPS based speed so if the speedo is off because of wheel size you can correct with the gps to not get zinged on O control speed traps on transits. Using a gps has never failed me, even at rallies like STPR and Maine where you are racing at the bottom of some steep canyons.
We had both! Used a gps phone app as backup, but service was questionable out there. It was definitely helpful. Also wheel speed off the front wheel so it wasn’t terribly far off.
Great job i naturally found myself interested and drawn to the 944 browsing the market and looking for a good cheaper rally car to get into the sport and im happy to see you guys made such an awesome build. I plan to start building mine soon. Just got to save up a bit more
Bout time Mike Day finally gives the people what we want. We need more of this. Can we donate cars to the cause? I got a golf sportwagen that needs the Mike Day touch.
I also had similar radiator packing issues but while ice racing with my old Subaru GL (2nd gen). I put a piece of flashing on it to seal between the bumper and lower rad area because it primarily got its air from above the bumper. Worked good, I hit many berms without packing the rad. Before it'd sort of hydraulic snow up in front of the radiator and immediately end sessions.
Are the axle bolts coming loose causing a shock on the axles? I've owned my 944 for 15 years and I absolutely cannot keep mine tight when the car gets driven hard no matter what I try. I've broken bolts as well as axles. The car does have 345,000 miles so the trans might have some slop too lol
I don't understand what that comment was about "So you don't speed",how would you not want to speed in a race? 😅 Also, is it really that hard to run during the daytime?
@ecstuning do you still have any contact with boosted bros garage? I’m in the process of rebuilding an o7k and haven’t heard anything since I joined their waitlist
Little bit of feedback. With that thumbnail you attract attention. But want we want to see and hear is the 944 with the 5 cylinder, not talking head... The way social media works, you have 5 seconds to hook. Not much more. => 5 seconds until we need to see the 944 flat out with engine sound. In my opinion you missed the opportunity of gaining new followers by not delivering what was teased.
Let us know what rally's you'd like to see Mike at next!
STPR is a great event that the local community really rallys around!
Oregon trail, kind of a drive for you guys though...
Mcreary or Overmountain Tennessee would be fun!
Hope to see him at SOFR

Was one of the stage captains at Sandblast. Stoked to see this Porsche out there. Hope to see you guys back out there next year.

Mikes builds are the best. 5 cylinders and dad wagons/SUVs is soo relatable for me at least and many others I’m sure
We've waited patiently for a couple years to get exactly this! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

Welcome to rallying! Like your honest and enthusiastic approach. Car is nice as well. I wish you both lots of success.

The car looks SO GOOD! Love it! Great start!
Yes! the 944 (945?) is back!
Saw you run two stages. Sick ride. Local✌️
It's great to see it on-course after watching the build series. It would be great to see the mods/fixes you apply, and then how the next rally goes!
Finally! Looks and sounds amazing! Well done boys
Great job! I love the photos I got of you guys out on the stages; looking forward to seeing you at Sandblast next year!

Well done guys. 👏.... and thanks for taking us along for the ride🙏. Looking forward to your next outing so 👍
it was really nice seeing this at sandblast. I definitely enjoyed looking at it when in service
Absolutely incredible. Inspires me to continue the build on mine. Nice driving guys 🤘
Yes excited to see this project make a comeback!
Great to see Kevin again! All the best with your next race, guys. :)

Hell yeah! Im looking forward to more rally videos!

Had this exact build idea, decided to look it up to see if anyones already done it. Damn
Never seen a video of yalls, but im like 2 mins in and subbed after seeing the X5 lifted and a rally car.
That sound!!!!
We want to hear more 5 cylinder sounds!!!!
Just wait for next week 👀
So glad this car is back!
Well done you guys!
Mikey, I like it!!!
thats sick
Wishing I hadn't sold my 944, but sadly I wasn't in a position to do what I wanted
GREAT CONTENT!
Please, more off this 😂
Hell yeah!
Hah! I've had that same axle failure in my Beetle with a welded diff. Drove home from the autocross on it too.
I also had similar radiator packing issues but while ice racing with my old Subaru GL (2nd gen). Did you break the axle or the cv joint there in the end?
Inner cv, the cage exploded
A 1.5 way LSD might make it less of a handful on corner entry.. Probably explode less CV’s too

Would love to see some raw onboards without all the music
Stay tuned for next week! 🤘
bring this to LSPR or the CUP rally

Love the comment
RALLY PORSCHE 944
which 5cyl engine did you use?
Sup with that e36 all cut up in the background?
That might be our next Upgrade or Unload project...👀
@@ecstuningfeel free to upgrade my E36 build, but you’re definitely not unloading it 😂
Backing out of a time control??? lol Naughty....
@ecstuning do you still have any contact with boosted bros garage? I’m in the process of rebuilding an o7k and haven’t heard anything since I joined their waitlist
Is your roof leaking or is it just condensation because you don’t have a headliner? I noticed that as soon as I stripped my car.
Oh, it’s leaking for sure 😂
