    Found your page by accident and glad I did. I've had my 57 for 30 years and never started on it till now due to a few health and job issues and life itself through the years. Like you, I'm doing mine alone. Just got an engine and trans and it needs a lot of work. Wasn't sure about doing it alone but your vids are greatly inspiring me to go for it. I cannot wait to see yours done. Thanks for sharing your work. It really got me going on my project.

      Welcome to the channel! Good luck starting on your '57. This is the first one we have attempted and certainly learning as we go! At the end, as long as we can get it out of the garage and cruise around with all smiles, that is as close enough to perfection for us.

    I am just amazed at how solid the car still is. I bought a 57 when the fellow who bought it new had got bad sick and he did not want his kids to tear it up so he sold it to me for just what he paid for it. Nineteen hundred dollars and only seven thousand miles on it with it being in great condition except for the six cylinder engine. Everything off of the six bolts to the 283 I had around. Flywheel, bellhousing, and other related parts, moved the radiator closer to engine and then just drove it for quite a few years. It was almost six years old when I bought it and then like said drove it for some time. I found a 57 ford two door hardtop, the fairlane model and it was my favorite of all of the cars I have ever owned. Long long story short to help you figure me out, I might of been young but got my emancipation at fifteen, the county sheriff came to my house and gave me my first drivers licence! He was instrumental in my getting freedom from a real bad situation. I started buying older cars to fix and still work in the woods as a logger in skagit co. washington. Along came the fall of 65, I had got in trouble fighting again and the judge had seen me a couple times before. He gave me a choice of five years in the pen or go in the army... so after boot in N. Carolina, off to Nam I went and then came home in really late 68, spring of 69. I made my way home to find out people had stolen all of my cars and pickups that had been fixed up by me. I still had my property so sold it and went to alaska as a logger. I loved to log timber but it was a short stint. They found out I was a good welder, fab man and could wrench on anything. The big boss came over to where I was and yelled.. "Your fired" lets go to camp! I was hurt cause I did not know what I had done and was setting in his old truck riding to camp when he started laughing... don't look so sad... we were only paying you twelve dollars to set chokers... when we get you set up, I will start you at thirty... and unless I miss my guess, I will make up the difference in the start wage to fifty dollars! I want to know, can you handle your fists? I told him it got me in the army. After telling some about me, he started laughing some more and said, "Lex told me he thought I had hired you and said your last name is adair not ..... so I said ya... I just needed a job. He said lets just head to the shop now. We walked in and he fired his shop boss, told everyone that their jobs depended on how well I liked them and how he wanted some change around this shop!! So I held my hand up and said if thats the way you want things, so be it but no one is fired or going to get fired as long as ya try your best and ask how to do it if you don't know how.... My dad had me tossing wrenches before I was old enough to argue and have a good many years on me even though I am younger than most of you. I did turn his shop around and gold streak supply had parts being delivered some times twice a day for months but that was one sweet camp. There was nine different sides to this camp and it had just about anything logging related or road construction there. I worked there for a few years and then just said, I need to keep traveling..... I could always get a job where ever I was at before but just wanted to see more.

    You can buy the bumper end that you need, those bumpers are 3 pieces..looks like a pretty good car to start with, good luck!

    you can keep it toward 5k if you go original to late 60s parts.
    a very nice stock type modification on the 3 speed trans is a 65-72 fully syncro 3 speed. they are affordable and almost bullet proof. should be able to find a good one 200 or so. the original 3 speeds are ok but suck when you pull up to a stop light that just changed green and your rolling slow. then theres the times when you may want to shift quick....and the old type shifter levers slip on the original type trans...

    Nothing wrong with a 235 six cylinder if that’s what the General put in them at the factory, my 57 runs a original 235 six, kinda a neat car.

      The verdict is still out. Depending on health of it, there is a possibility of an sbc swap. However, they are only original once!

    be very careful with what you choose to do to that 57 or youre 5k "restore' will turn into a ' 50k' restore.

      @@bornfreebuilds Put 150k on mine, till the fiber timing gears took a dump. Must remove camshaft to press on new gear. Big job !
