I think the problem is that the average American voter doesn't have the time to properly inform themselves, so any candidate has to try to and repeat very simple messages again and again, so that whenever someone does tune in, they are able to get those central, simple (and usually not policy-oriented) messages across. If I may say one more thing in defense of Harris though it's that she's only been the official candidate for two-ish weeks, while Trump has had more than eight years as a president and as a presidential candidate to define himself and what he stands for.

I subscribe to the WSJ. But, this video, like so much of the news in this presidential election cycle reporting borders on bombast. The "reporters" and opinion writers are trying to understand this presidential election using journalistic conventions like the reporting in past elections (let's say since 1980 after which the political conventions became coronations). Let's get with it and get a new prescription for your journalism in this election cycle. The Democrats have done what the Republicans failed to do: democrats switched to a new candidate to try and win the election. And the pundits want everything said in a millisecond. Maybe the listeners, viewers, and readers are not interested in the reporting that is more about the opinions and policy opinions of the "reporter" than the candidates.

My metric is yard signs. I live in a pretty conservative part of Florida (which is a firmly Republican state). In 2016 there were "Trump" yard signs everywhere. In 2020 that number had visibly fallen. Now? Maybe 1/10th of what I saw in 2016 and, surprisingly, I've seen a few Harris yard signs pop up in the last couple of weeks something I would have considered unthinkable. From my perspective as a layperson this election is very "50/50" at the moment. However, if a large number of Republicans don't show up and vote for Trump... or actively vote against him... the electoral math becomes impossible.

Her biggest weakness is also her biggest strength. It’s her generic persona she puts up to not stand out. In the primaries it weeds you out early for not standing out among a crowd but in a general election it works like a ball withstanding pressure from all sides. She has no weak spots or even points of strength. I subscribe to the WSJ. But, this video, like so much of the news in this presidential election cycle reporting borders on bombast. The "reporters" and opinion writers are trying to understand this presidential election using journalistic conventions like the reporting in past elections (let's say since 1980 after which the political conventions became coronations). Let's get with it and get a new prescription for your journalism in this election cycle. The Democrats have done what the Republicans failed to do: democrats switched to a new candidate to try and win the election. And the pundits want everything said in a millisecond. Maybe the listeners, viewers, and readers are not interested in the reporting that is more about the opinions and policy opinions of the "reporter" than the candidates.

My metric is yard signs. I live in a pretty conservative part of Florida (which is a firmly Republican state). In 2016 there were "Trump" yard signs everywhere. In 2020 that number had visibly fallen. Now? Maybe 1/10th of what I saw in 2016 and, surprisingly, I've seen a few Harris yard signs pop up in the last couple of weeks something I would have considered unthinkable.
From my perspective as a layperson this election is very "50/50" at the moment. However, if a large number of Republicans don't show up and vote for Trump... or actively vote against him... the electoral math becomes impossible.
