He really went "Hey so since I control the ocean, as you just saw, I know that I drowned so much of your crew that only 43 is left. Aren't I benevolent?"
Honestly, Oddyseus was right in what he said, and Poseidon wouldn't have forgiven him anyway, "The line between naivety and hopefulness is almost invisible", Poseidon was simply being terribly cruel, he wanted to give them hope, which would really be a false hope, to then utterly crush it, he never really had any real intention of forgiving them and letting them go

This animatic made me actually full understand Poseidon's motivations in this song. I had always been confused as to why, if he was pissed at Odysseus for killing his son, did he say that Odysseus should've killed him. But seeing him basically smile all the way through made it make more sense to me. Poseidon probably isn't specifically pissed that Odysseus hurt it son, he's got plenty one's not a big deal. But it's nerve to think that this guy, this mortal, thinks he can blind the son of POSEIDON, brag about who he is, and get away with it. Not only that, but had the chance to kill him, but he's too goodie two shoes to go through with it. Obviously, he's gotta kill Odysseus, not specifically cuz he loves Polyphemus, but more because, you can't get away with that. As said in Get In The Water, it's part of his reputation. But now, Odysseus is not only messing with the gods, but he's also being a "Good person" and as we can see by Poseidon's ideology, that's not how you live. So, Poseidon not only takes revenge, but he takes his chance to really rub it in Odysseus's face, just how wrong Odysseus was. Make him watch how his "Good actions" cost him the life of his crew. I'm right, you're wrong, and I'll show you how wrong you are. That's Poseidon's idea. But when Odysseus escapes, and not only beats him, but every other challenge on his way home, that's what pisses Poseidon off. He gets to cheat death, and still be a "Good person" that's why he's actually furious when we get to Get In The Water. Because Odysseus can't be right, if he is then Poseidon is wrong. Poseidon can't handle that.
That, as well as the facts that ancient Greeks cared deeply about warriors deaths. He not only injured Poseidon's son, but let him lived crirppled by blindness. This robbed Polyphemus(cyclops) of his honor, provoking Poseidon.
Yup. And the song says it perfectly honestly. "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" basically- In the long run you will get hurt less by handling your problems... well... Ruthlessly lol
Poseidon actually cared about his kids. Yea, yea, he had like millions of them, but he cared for them. The reason he did this, is because he was not only defending his own honor, but also Polyphemus’s. For the cyclops’s, their one eye is what they’re known for. By leaving Polyphemus blind, Odysseus had robbed him of that greatly. This made Polyphemus useless.
@@marcuszunke8563 There's a difference between storms and lightning. Even thunder and lightning. (Think about Norse God Thor being the God of Thunder). There were thunderstorms that seemed to occur without lightning over the seas, and that was very much attributed to Poseidon, but the lightning itself was Zeus' and often the combination of the two, and any quakes caused by the storms, were seen as the two gods fighting.
I love how Poseidon literally looks more like a Lovecraftian being than a god himself. And the trident thing being the motif of his dress? Flippin brilliant and fantastic. Also, the battle in the mind of Odysseus... Poseidon made him feel alone and mocked... Like he did with Polyphemus! That's Genius!
... You know, this whole sequence is even more terrifying for Odysseus when you realize that Poseidon was likely holding back. Even as divinely pissed off as he was, Poseidon still had enough self-control to only murder MOST of Odysseus' soldiers. Had he felt like it, he could have sent them all, including Odysseus himself, straight to Hades. Instead, he took the time to show them WHY leaving the cyclops alive was a mistake, and why leaving him blind was even worse.
There is no world he isnt holding back in this sequence 😭😭 He could legit just grab Odysseus with his tentacle and skewer him until he looks like swiss cheese but thats not a ruthless as throwing him around and making him watch his crew die
When he sings the part of "We only wanted to escape" the way the voice fades off is as if Poseidon himself just gave a terrifying stare and just shut him up with looks alone.
I don't blame him for that terrifying stare, he gave him a chance to apologise but he only makes excuses, not a single apology or admission of guilt was uttered. Instead he stated it as if it was reasonable and not wrong.
2:01 man, Poseidon's face at the "let him live" line just RADIATES the energy of "are you fucking kidding me, man?" Your interpretations of certain scenes are just A+! Odysseus's ship being held aloft as he watches the others die is utterly brutal, and him throwing a knife at the bag changes it from a sort-of comedic beat to a truly desperate move. And Circe at the end is a hell of a cliffhanger, well done
@@wolfsbanealphas617 no joke, I have thought this from the beginning. In the song Storm, you can hear both the electronic instruments and the regular trumpet playing, which is Poseidon's instrument per Jay. Since the storm roiling ocean the is supernatural, and you can't have an epic storm at sea without wind, it just made sense to me that Aeolus was somehow involved, too.
Aeolus later on after Odysseus had escaped Poseidon:, i didn’t do anything eh?! Your lucky I gave u that bag or you would’ve been in the underworld already
i just realized odysseus' crew was screaming "captain!" when they got slaughtered... ive been listening to ruthlessness so many times but the imagery made me realized that oh yeah... they were screaming for their lives and its not just that whole sequence being a cool beat
I seriously love the interpretation of him throwing the dagger at the bag to open it- having it be out of his reach, but him still finding a way to open it just feels better than him having it on his person to begin with.
I think this is the most menacing Poseidon I've seen yet. He really does feel *ruthless*, not just verbally taunting Odysseus, but actively attacking him and taking swipes at him throughout, like a cat playing with a mouse.
That's cruelty. RUTHLESSNESS would have been leaving the blinded Polyphemus in silence, or killing him instead of blinding him to ensure he would be no threat. When Odysseus taunted Polyphemus, THAT was cruelty, because it served no purpose but causing pain for sadistic pleasure. Poseidon is repaying cruelty with cruelty.
AnniFlamma's Poseidon was pretty scary as well; he had a similar Eldritch Abomination vibe, and the same sadistic grin. But Jorge's Poseidon will always be the most disturbing to me. G E T I N T H E W A T E R
I feel like if this was a real movie it would have honestly been one of those 2D animated Dreamworks' movies like Prince of Egypt and Eldorado, and people would have made RUclips videos today named "Poseidon in Epic: A legendary and underrated movie villain".
Most modern depictions of Poseidon is this happy go lucky, wacky uncle thats kinda weird. No one remember how terrifying and brutal the sea can be to those not belong to it
@@AncientSavant7572even in Riodian’s work, there’s hints of how ruthless he is. Biggest example, when Percy sits on Poseidon’s throne to contact him. Poseidon is ready to properly smite whatever foolish wretch would dare insult him in such a way, but then notices who’s there and basically goes “Percy? Son, I know you well enough to know you have some kind of reason for doing something so stupid, so explain. Now.”
I think that the modern happy-go-lucky conception of Poseidon is appropriate, esp. in the Riordanverse where it's explicitly stated (or at least heavily implied) that the gods are just the manifestations of humanities views of their domain. It makes sense for modern Poseidon to be more mellow because the ocean's surface is largely tamed. Most of our ships can weather fierce storms and survive, so our manifestation of him is a lot less dangerous on a day-to-day basis. Instead, all of the mystery and wrath is left to the old gods/ Titans like Nereus and Oceanus (ocean life and the deep ocean) as that's where our safety/ understanding runs thin. But ocean disasters like hurricanes and tidal waves can still spread widespread destruction, so the moments of ruthlessness shown in the series still make sense from this perception. And all of this contrasts with how Poseidon is shown in EPIC, which makes sense for the time period given how much more vulnerable and unknown the sea was back then.
Personally, I've always imagined Poseidon as sort of bi-polar. Like he can be all chill and happy in one moment and throw a deadly temper tantrum in the next, all over some perceived slight against his pride. The thing with the greek gods is that they are supposed to be very prideful and flawed, not so much unlike us mortals. They are easily offended and petty, and Poseidon is often depicted as one of the most short-tempered amongst all of them; only truly rivaled by Zeus, Hera and Aphrodite on that front.
I love the way that when posiden says close your heart you hear a small part of piano showing the similiarities between what posiden and athena were trying to teach odyseus
Sorry to be the party pooper but the Kraken is norse mythology and theres literally nothing resembling an octopus or squid in greek mythology, probably has something to do with the fact that from what I understand, octopi are not native to the Mediterranean especially around greece due to how flippin random the weather is.
@@Lord-Regent-of-the-Imperium not a party popper at all. I'm aware the kraken Is Norse and that octopuses aren't native to the region and thus not in Greek mythos. However I feel the imagery of the giant tentacles coming out of the water to smash and drag down ships was almost directly referencing the kraken. Especially considering, as you said, there is no real reason to have octopuses/squids connected to posiden's design otherwise.
This. THIS. THIS is the definition of good movement and character design. Also holy shit giant poisoden was terrifying and I loved his facial movements.
As a father myself, I can honestly relate to the sheer rage Poseidon felt at finding his son had been rendered blind by someone, only for that someone to shout out to remember him and basically giving out his home address and name. The sheer hubris and stupidity of Odysseus to give his name after defeating his opponent.... And then to throw his own line back at Odysseus, 'I am your darkest moment.' Especially after killing his men, his 'flock,' as repayment of Odysseus stealing Polyphemus's sheep. Poetic justice.
Hey I understand how you feel completely! And I’m not sure if you’ve heard the rest of the musical or at least carefully listened to it that much. But in defense of Ody he wasn’t showing hubris in EPIC! In the original Odyssey he was but this is a retelling! Ody shouted his name bc he was hurt and angry. Several of his men including his (extremely merciful) best friend just died in a really really traumatic way. He shouted his name to teach the Cyclops a lesson on mercy. He made a dumb and horrible mistake not on a clear mind. He blinded Polyphemus out of self-defense and to get his body away from the entrance (“His body his blocking the path- if we kill him then we’ll be stuck inside”). All Ody wanted was to get food for his crew, leave, and see his wife and son. He didn’t know a cyclops lived in that cave, he didn’t want to fight the cyclops (as seen with the fact he tried to negotiate first) and he certainly didn’t want his best friend and men to die like that. It’s not justice-Even if Ody wasn’t in the right. Because killing several hundred people isn’t equal to getting blinded. It’s ruthless, which is _exactly_ the intention for this portrayal of Poseidon!
@@TheQuasarWinds You're saying there is no hubris in: - Believing you're too good to kill an infant when you just got done slaughtering an entire city of unprepared soldiers. - Refusing to pray to Poseidon before departing for home. - Thinking that lying to a cyclops (whose favorite pet you just murdered) and offering him a drink will make him spare you. - Actively going against the advice of your chosen deity and basically telling the cyclops everything about you in a prideful boast after you, again, assumed you're too good to kill your opponent. - Seeking out the wind god Aeolus instead of at least trying to appease Poseidon, or just dealing with the consequences of your actions when the storm comes. - Constantly refusing to hear or listen to the concerns of your men despite constantly endangering them, even after the vast majority die needlessly from your mistakes. - He damn near falls victim to Circe after failing to kill her immediately, giving her time to try seducing him. Only his love for his wife saves him. - Damn near fighting a prophet because the guy doesn't just tell him what he wants to hear, even though the meaning of his prophecy is obvious if you think about it for like 2 seconds. More stuff will probably come up later, we already know Zeus gets involved somewhere down the line, but Odysseus gets put through the ringer a lot because he puts his conscience ("I'm the only one whose line I haven't crossed") above the survival of him and his men, which is hubris of the highest order.
I like how you design all the gods to be somewhere in the Uncanny Valley. They're still humanoid, attractive, but it almost seems like these alien creatures folded themselves into the shape of a human. For Posiodon, it almost feels like there was a hollow statue of a god and some terrible, malicious octopus crawled inside and is looking out of it's eyes. You end up feeling like a shellfish who just realized something has snuck into your tank. All this to say, your Posiodon is scarier the more you look at him, good job 👍🥲😅
Especially where you see into his eyes. Enormous fishes... A grasping hand... And a single red eye surrounded by tentacles... It's like... Fuck. Is this from Homer or from Lovecraft?
2:21 here is I suddenly realized how terrible the Greek gods really are. The way Poseidon looks here made me think how freakish and terrifying these guys are. That just smile radiates wicked satisfaction. Very villainous
WHERE TO START! first off ive noticed a theme in all the animatics of this song ive seen of posiedon being very agressive towards odysseus (throwing him around,, using waves to sway the ship etc.) BUT THIS was the only one ive seen where posiden does what i assume was a sort of quick thought AND THEN ATTACKS ODYSSEUS INSIDE HIS OWN HEAD! and making him watch from above as he kills his whole crew with odysseues knowing he cant do anything to save them IS SO JUST- AAAAAAAA! also i love eurylochus running to make sure hes ok after he gets thrown to the side of the ship. and oddly the first animatic ive seen where posideon has a trident. this is just all in all amazing gigi we all love watching you improve!
This has gotta be my new favorite Poseidon Design. The way it just interacts with so many different aspects of his domain. The Earth Tridents, the tentacles. I think I even saw some lightning effects maybe referencing storms. He also just screams Classic Disney Villian Energy. Edit: He also just has the COOLEST entrance Ever! With the chants and him emerging from the Lighting / waterfall? Like a gladiator.
Except octopus are barely featured in greek mythology, and poseidon has 0 affiation to octopus, which is more of an equestrian deity. Meaning horses and horse based creatures, Pegasus is his literal son born from the bloody stump of medusa's neck after getting decapitated by Perseus. In fact, his other son Bellarophon inherited his horse riding abilities from poseidon and proceeded to use those abilities to aid in his slaying of the monster known as Chimera and would later attempt to fly up to olympus, both events being on the back of the earlier referenced Pegasus. Also Pegasus and Chimera are not the names of the species as they are the only ones of their individual kind, Pegasus is literally just the name of the singular winged horse and Chimera being the name of the individual monster.
@@Lord-Regent-of-the-Imperium the octopus is probably because Poseidon has command over the seas and all creatures in the seas and Pegasus isn't his son you must be referring to the rape of Medusa which was something the Roman poet Ovid added later not part of the original legend
His entrance made me think he went "Brother, I'm going down there to deal with this fuck-" And Zeus was like "Alright, bet, I'll make you look awesome and intimidating."
@@Axt.Artist Poseidon is also god of the storms, do technically he also has a claim on the use of thunder and lightning. Before Zeus became the main god of the pantheon, before the concept of a sky father became mainstream, the main god was actually Poseidon He was pretty spooky too
Oh my god!! The white in Odysseus' and Eurylochus' eyes to show their fear was perfect And the way you showed Poseidon taunting Odysseus showed how aggressive and invasive he is! Also, nice touch with Circe at the end
I absolutely love the framing for the line "Line between naivaty and hopefulness is almost invisible" 2:53 It really highlights the scale between Odysseus and Posiden, making it almost pitiable he thought his wit and cleverness could get him out of the current situation. But looking at it, he stood no real chance.
The little tridents in Odysseyus's eye! The design choices in this, squid body, the transfiguring armored arm, and the way Poseidon smiles on, "but noooooo." ❤️ I really appreciate the little extra step Odysseyus has to take of throwing a knife at the bag to get it open. It emphasizes his cunning and skill, and by placing the bag not immediately in reach answers why Odysseus didn't use it sooner.
Like I prefer the other animation though some bits are liked here (The opening of the bag being a desparate move as it was knocked to the ground for instance thus making it a heroic escape rather than mood whiplash)
4:10 damn Aeolus looking terrifying af. I always thought she was whispering through the wind to cause the men to distrust Odysseus and open the bag and perhaps they drugged him with Lotus to make him fall asleep.
I love seeing all the different interpretations of Poseidon, like AnniFlamma’s ruthlessness animatic where his horse god status is really emphasized, or how wolfythewitch animates him as like being the ocean itself and turning into water, and then you with this Kraken-y monstrous vibe. All of them are so cool and creative!!
I love all of Posidons' expressions. Especially with "but no," just that grin as he looks down condescendingly. Also I just love how everyone agrees that he just throws Odysseus around during the line of being told that he's too nice (considering the fact that he can't fight back just adds to it imo). Anyway, before I just ramble anymore, take these hearts 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
I love Aeolus’s face on the bag of wind so much! It makes it look like a product they’d sell and seeing it alleviated the situation in a great way for the opening of it. AAAA THIS IS SO GOOD IM BLOWN AWAY
AMAZING GIGI!!! I loved the choice you made to show Poseidon as huge. He's literally bigger than every single threat Odysseus has faced thus far. It very much gives "vengeful god" and ultimate antagonist. I also loved you showing how Poseidon held Odysseus's ship above the fleet so he could safely watch his men be slaughtered in less than a minute. Your work is magnificent. I loved it. So worth the wait.
Poseidon repeating the 'darkest moment' line that Odysseus said to the cyclops kinda makes it feel as if he watched it happen instead of just being told, and only took it upon himself to act when his son literally came begging to him
The details of 3:11, with the soldiers surviving and helping each other, and Poseidon just ensuring that he kills every single one of them.... Chills... I absolutely cannot, this is just BRILLIANT
This one was amazing gigi! I think its one of your bests and my favorite! I love the animation! And Posiedon's expression when Odysseus opening the bag was so fun! Loved it!

@@gigi2820 Aaaah Im sorry that mine added that stress 🤣 Its pretty much just a horse running around. But I really love your idea that Poseidon actually beat the crap out of him with the trident! And that he becomes big and the picks up the boat!
Just noticed after watching gigi's Scylla and seeing the eel design for the heads then rewatching this, at the 3:00 minute mark there are eels shown around when the line "Close your heart" is sung. Perfect
The way Posidion moves gave me Scylla vibes which is so good. Then him showing his gigantic form and ripping the ship. The VISUALS is just so damn good!
Just finished watching and I LOVE ALL THE COLORS IT WAS SO AMAZING AND CIRCE COMING UP AT THE END WAS SPECTACULAR. And Aeolus swinging by as he used the last bits of the storm to blow himself away- AH IM AMAZED. Amazing as always. I love the art, I love Poseidon, omg I love Poseidon’s design I am RAAAAAAWHEYHSHSDND
Poseidon looks so cool the way he's drawn in this video, he's so imposing because of how tall he is. I also like that he has tentacles, and his right arm looks to be amorphous.
Both portray Poseidon as Eldritch Divine Monsters. Poseidon here has ties to older form from the predecessor of hellenistic Greece: a catatonic God, ruler instead of Zeus and called the Earthshaker. Also the ties to the most nefarious mythical sea creature that sailors have feared with him are great. The other animatic does what a lot of animatics are doing, where Poseidon is one with sea and therefore attacks them through whipping up a storm. It also ties into his other position as God of Horses, with him turning into one (as he has countless times). It's also a neat connection to the way that poets and writers back then described turbulent waves as racing horses. And of course, pointing out the irony of Odyssey with the Trojan Horse built along with Athena - who is Poseidons main rival not to mention.
I personally think the overall choreography is more clever and impactful in this animatic with the little details of poseidon holding up the ship, odysseus throwing a knife at the bag and the menacing red tint when poseidon goes on his rampage. I also prefer his design here, i particulary loved his unique tentacle movements. He looks less human and more powerful. I really liked the horse theme in the other animatic though. Both artists did an incredible job
OMG the way you designed the jagged spikes that are behind Poseidon's head that not only give the illusion of a crown but the three top spikes look just like his trident as he submerges back into the ocean at the end of the song????? artistic genius right there
AAAAAAAAAAAGH THIS WAS SO COOL! This is on the same level as AnniFlamma's animatic, imo. The fact that Poseidon has tentacles instead of legs, the imagery, the brutality, and the little cameo from Aeolus...absolutely phenomenal! Well worth the wait! Can't wait to see you tackle the Circe saga! If that is the direction you choose to go, of course. Keep being awesome queen!
hoogh can we talk about the choreography at 1:54?? like god i love how posideon is mercilessly beating up odysessus while it fits well with his monologue at that moment
This hurt even MORE seeing it animated this way. The desperation on Odysseus’s face when most of his men were eradicated right in his face is just- wow. Amazing job! You are so skilled!
For once a good take, Im tired of people praising the octopus thing. That choice just does not work for me under the context that this is Poseidon. Octopi don't feature in greek myth almost at all. If this was under the context of being some other ocean deity from a typical fantasy world, then I'd be more down for this design. Im not saying the animatic is bad or anything that happens is bad. I just find the context of this supposedly being poseidon to be incredibly jarring. It would've been one thing if the tentacle were made of water, but them being physical pieces of the god himself just does not work for me.
@Battle-Brother-Ixaris I can kinda see it, Octopi live just about everywhere in the ocean, especially near the coasts, and Poseidon's temples were often built on the coast due to being the God of waters. I can totally buy Poseidon deciding to partially shape-shift into an octopus
@tetragaming6332 dude is all about horses. The fact that there's no mythical octopus monster in greek myth leads me to conclude that octopi are not indigenous to the Mediterranean.
Gigi, phenomenal as always! Your Poseidon design is amazing, and I really like how you depicted the “All I gotta do is open this bag” sequence particularly. It was a dramatic and harrowing scene, which is different from how I usually see people animate it based on Odysseus’ chipper tone. I really enjoyed that! I also thought it was a nice touch to have Poseidon’s tentacles suspend Odysseus’ ship in midair while he wrought havoc on the rest of the fleet. That gave a distinct feeling of helplessness (and ruthlessness) as Odysseus’ was forced to watch the carnage.
Good on you for including those rocky spires in Poseidon’s attack. Most people forget that one of his many titles is Earthshaker and he was the supposed cause of all the earthquakes in the world.
I'm constantly fascinated by how differently people choose to animate Poseidon, especially in the way that he destroys the fleet. I don't think I've seen any two that are the same, but I DEFINITELY haven't seen such a tentacle-y design for Poseidon that gives him an almost eldritch vibe. Well done!
1:51 I freaking love the "but nooo~~" and the way you drew him saying it , I loved how you designed Poseidon like OMG and I loved the way you animated him threw Odysseus at first I was like really surprised how AMAZING it is because I found no other artist that animated this THIS good like thank you so much for your efforts I was waiting for you to animate this song for so long and it deserves it
i find it funny, that posieden isnt mad that he hurt him, hes mad he didnt kill him. but poseiden is right as well. epsecially for a race such as cyclops. killing the cyclops wouldve been a mercy to it.
There's also the line from Poseidon that stands out when he mentions "You reveal your name and then let him live." it pretty much showed that Odysseus' pride ultimately caused this situation. He could have just left and not shouted out his name and left and things would have been fine but he had the audacity and kind of cockiness reveal it and leave assuming nothing could happen (even though of course he didn't know it was Poseidon's son)
@@Empty_Blank I love the way that line is delivered btw. Just the stretched out exaggerated noooooo lol. But yeah, I think the two options for him to get out without issues was kill the cyclops or if he still didn't want to kill him then just hold his tongue and not reveal his name in such a proud almost "Challenging" way.
This is one of the coolest versions of Ruthlessness I have ever seen!! The faces are so expressive and Poseidon's design is so cool!! I never would have thought of using tentacles like that, but it fits!! The animation was so smooth, and I couldn't look away!! All in all, amazing job because HOLY CRAP THIS WAS GOOD!!!
I'm going to actually scream at how amazing this is. I can SEE WHY THIS WAS SO HARD, there is so much MOVEMENT, so many AMAZING moments, probably one of my top Ruthlessness Animatics. I LOVE how Poseidon hits Odysseus with his trident, and it takes him to a reflectant area in his own mind. THEN HE COMES BACK AND NO TIME HAD PASSED. The FAKE OUT for Odysseus' ship being lifted up as if THEY were in danger was one of my favorites. I wouldn't have seen it coming if I didn't know the song and MAN, did that make the scene EVEN MORE INTENSE. (Poor Odysseus watching it all occur). Lastly- I love your depiction of Poseidon. I loved it when I saw the first little snippet; the Octopus-like features. I love the smug expressions, and also anger in his face. You did SO AWESOME on this thank you so much for making this!
I love your idea for the scene of how Poseidon was able to keep Odysseus’ boat safe but destroys all the others! And with Odysseus watching helpless at the top. And I love how you played the scene for when Odysseus opened the bag. He didn’t do it in a fun way, but in the serious, quick witted way that he is. All of it was perfection.
I love that Poseidon is a dark mirror for odysseyus, he is much more annoyed about the lack of follow through than his son being hurt. He mockingly repeats „“I am your darkest moment“ and unintentionally says „“remember me“ as he leaves both things Odysseyus said leaving Polyphemus after blinding him. Even in his response to Odysseyus‘s apology he basically said „“man up and claim responsibility“ in response.
I've got chills! Seriously this is amazing! The designs are gorgeous, the movement is incredible, and the rock's appearing around 1:00 are just perfectly horrifying and threatening!
I LOVE your version of giving Poseidon tentacles and playing with how he moves about. I also loved how you chose to show the fighting scenes and how you incorporated his trident into Poseidon's fighting-style. Amazing job, this is the best one I've seen so far.
This is amazing! I can’t imagine how much work this must’ve taken, and you portray the characters so well! I like how physically repulsed Poseidon is with Odysseus. It looks to me like he’s even wiping off his hand that he used to grab him with at 1:16 Truly, well done.
AHHH THE CHARACTER DESIGN FOR POSEIDON IS AMAZING!! The idea of him being a kraken-like monster is so unique and creative, and he looks absolutely menacing in every frame he’s in. You can really feel the terror he evokes 😱

The thing is, Odysseus didn't apologize. He made an excuse for maiming Poseidon's son. Those lines are him pulling stuff out of his ass, trying to talk his way out of the situation. He never actually apologizes

Some of the best animatics for EPIC usually have one moment in them that just fundamentally gets the source material so well, at least as far as my own understanding of it goes. I love the way you animated Poseidon's face throughout the line "You reveal your name, then you let him live?" is so perfect. Like, Odysseus' mentality is so baffling to him that he can't help but disrespect him so passionately, with such malice. You did an amazing job.

Well also he was like “if you just finished it I wouldn’t have to be here.”
On top of all that hes a disipel of Athena which is his arch nemesis.

There were thunderstorms that seemed to occur without lightning over the seas, and that was very much attributed to Poseidon, but the lightning itself was Zeus' and often the combination of the two, and any quakes caused by the storms, were seen as the two gods fighting.

Most modern depictions of Poseidon is this happy go lucky, wacky uncle thats kinda weird. No one remember how terrifying and brutal the sea can be to those not belong to it
Whenever I thought of Poseidon I always pictured Riordon’s Poseidon. This take on him shook me
@@AncientSavant7572even in Riodian’s work, there’s hints of how ruthless he is.
I really like this interpretation.

2:04 The perfectly captured mix of incredulity, rage and amusement. The expression of pure, “you have got to be fucking with me!” Love it.
I absolutely love how this disign implies that the giant kraken that all sailors fear is posiden. Thats so clever!

Then again I hope you don't say "I'd rather you have killed him" 😭😭
@@nolongerinuse1723 of course not.
@@nolongerinuse1723well in the case of the Cyclops killing him would be mercy considering they have removed their only way of sight.
@@TheQuasarWinds You're saying there is no hubris in:
- Believing you're too good to kill an infant when you just got done slaughtering an entire city of unprepared soldiers.

I have chosen to have both on my Playlist.
I listen to Ruthlessness on repeat anyway, so having more than 1 tracks for me
Both portray Poseidon as Eldritch Divine Monsters.
Playlist makers are just gonna have to flip a coin because like both are so damn incredible and deserve recognition and praise

@Battle-Brother-Ixaris they are.
I meant what I said, they'll even live in the artic.
@tetragaming6332 ok then wheres the greek octopus monster? They made a monster for everything they knew about man, so wheres the big fuck off octopus?

Oooh, Circe's eyes! I squealed when I saw her! It's amazing to see this musical is coming together! ❤
I am so glad Wet Hades got a shout-out
Good on you for including those rocky spires in Poseidon’s attack.
Well done!
1:51 I freaking love the "but nooo~~" and the way you drew him saying it , I loved how you designed Poseidon like OMG and I loved the way you animated him threw Odysseus at first I was like really surprised how AMAZING it is because I found no other artist that animated this THIS good like thank you so much for your efforts I was waiting for you to animate this song for so long and it deserves it
0:13 something tells me they're going to meet Poseidon... But idk what..
Are you sure?
That quite could be signalling anybody’s approach
Good observation I didn’t notice that one
y'know, with the way they kept repeating his name, I'm kinda thinking the same thing, idk tho
i find it funny, that posieden isnt mad that he hurt him, hes mad he didnt kill him. but poseiden is right as well. epsecially for a race such as cyclops. killing the cyclops wouldve been a mercy to it.
Also the fact there’s a certainty … finality to a loved one being killed versus them being alive but horrifically maimed.
@@Dragonskull1057I mean, he totally could have avoided it if he just killed his son but noooo.
"I am your darkest moment..." Love when words get thrown back in your face.
Wet hades is so wonderfully animated.
It looks to me like he’s even wiping off his hand that he used to grab him with at 1:16
Truly, well done.
I DIDNT NOTICE THAT LOL
"You're the worse kind of good because you aren't even great!" is one hell of a great line.
I can't get over how much I love the rugged feel of Posidens voice
Going absolutely feral over the sheer emotion conveyed in this animatic- ESPECIALLY THE “and you let him LIVE??” Wonderfully done omg- 💙
😌 2:03
Poseidon: in all my years of living, it isn't very often that I get pissed off
All of Greece: BULLSHIT
Edit: hehe i've started a war 🤭
Well compared to his lifespan he is not wrong
Horseshit*
@@Athenabadassinthearena
So what you are say is, what Poseidon said was true...
From a certain point of view.
Poseidon gets angry and frustrated often, true, but pissed off? Truly furious? That is rare
Compared to the rest of greek goods he's fine
AHHH THE CHARACTER DESIGN FOR POSEIDON IS AMAZING!! The idea of him being a kraken-like monster is so unique and creative, and he looks absolutely menacing in every frame he’s in. You can really feel the terror he evokes 😱
It’s giving POTC Davy Jones vibes
Wet Hades is CRAZZZZY
Poseidon? Nah it's 🌟 wet Hades 🌟
Wait what does that mean?
@@y-i-p-p-e-e Hades is the god of the god of the underworld, or death. "wet Hades" is just a funny nickname because of how ruthless poseidon is, killing an army of men in what could only be assumed within moments
@@ethenawitch816 oh ok thanks!
Well Poseidon half-times as a death god, the souls lost at sea belong to him 🤷♂😅
underrated comment
been watching a few ruthless animatic's and how you animated the "but nooo~" is probably the best ive seen, it's almost exactly how I imagined when first listening to it. well done!!
Poseidon looks so malicious, i love it
Poseidon: Apologize and I'll let you live
Odysseus: * Apologizes *
Poseidon: ...
Poseidon: Angry fish noises
But he didn't apologize - he just explained his reasoning, and he wasn't very honest with that either.
The thing is, Odysseus didn't apologize. He made an excuse for maiming Poseidon's son. Those lines are him pulling stuff out of his ass, trying to talk his way out of the situation. He never actually apologizes
he didnt though, as others stated, he did the equivalent of "I know was wrong but i did it for the right reason"
Poseidon even SAYS Odysseus fucked up by not killing his son (The thing Athena told him to do)
He didn't apologize though, he made excuses and justified his actions.
and "Justified" them very loosely (since he failed to mention how he was about to steal from the cyclops in question, and the cyclops attacking them was justified, in a certain sense) @@Frank_N_Stein.
I love how Poseidon starts off slowly working down the rocks, only to basically leap right onto the deck. He keeps switching between slow and fast, luring them with security and reminding them he’s a big time god…
The new ‘how bad can it be’ video is amazing ❤(but seriously I love this)
Just adore the way you animated wet hades, its a real treat
Hades wouldn't do this
@@WarriorcatGerdamy guy. You posting this under every comment doesn’t make you look good. At least ask wtf people are talking about.
I think they meant Disney Hades? @@WarriorcatGerda
Poseidon looks really cool, with his octopus tentacles for legs and his trident and all that other stuff. You did a great job, gigi!
I absolutely love all of Poseidon's facial expressions in this! They really bring life to the vocals and the emotional stakes here!
The little moments with Eurylochus were one of my favorite parts. It's sweet how he seemed so worried for Odysseus and was there for him
Goood lord this animatic is, like, just the best. Love how you animate Wet Hades, they way he moves is just SOOOOOOOOOOOO Intimidating
