Okay, I’m gonna place this rant here because I don’t know when I’ll ever get the chance to rant about liege waffles: I work at a mom and pop gelato and coffee shop. We specialize in gelato and, you guessed it, coffee. One year, some candy convention salesman convinced our owners that these liege waffles would boost business (we’re already a very popular local staple so we didn’t need the boost) and give our customers something different on the menu. So they bought the waffle irons (which were huge and would burn you if you even got one foot away from them) and the pre-made dough. Let me tell you... they sucked! It took 6 hours to proof these little jerks and if they proofed too long they would deflate. The waffle iron was so sensitive with its heating system that we couldn’t wash it with soap and water, we had to hand scrape the burnt sugar remains every night resulting in it taking an extra hour to close the shop down. These waffles took 6 mins each to cook and since we were mainly a coffee/gelato joint it was very easy to get distracted by other customers coming in resulting in a lot of burned waffles. This in turn resulted in customers waiting anywhere from 10-30 mins for a waffle the size of a hockey puck. On top of that, not many people ordered them, they found it a weird thing to have in a gelato shop and wouldn’t order them. We couldn’t even give them away as promotional items! After a year of bad reviews from both employees and customers about the waffles, the owners decided to no longer serve them much to everyone’s relief. That being said, the waffles were delicious, and if you’re in a specialty place like this that serves them all the time it’s worth all the extra work. Great video!
Sorry you guys had such a bad experience with liege waffles. There use to be a food truck that would come on to my college campus and made fresh liege waffles and they were sooooo delicious. He was super nice, great hospitality!
