It’s a great pleasure to hear my former teacher once again! His personality shines through and his performance and unique interpretation could not be mistaken with anybody else. Bravo maestro!
I have completed a two hour study of the Bach Chaconne played on the guitar and my favorites were Christopher Parkening and of course Andres Segovia . I then stumbled upon this great guitarist that is new to me Joaquin Clerch . Want a great find . I have never heard of him before so now I have another project . What a performance. Perfect in every way . His technique is above reproach but his dynamics and verve transforms this to a higher level . An absolutely great performance and a difficult template for other guitarist . Just inspiring and perfect . Thank you Mr Clerch !

Just wondering ... how is it possible that I never heard of this increduble guitarrist before? Amazing quality! Thanks for tonebase for bringing him to us.
I've heard countless renditions of this piece, but this is the most creative by far. The ornamentations are so unique, but still fit in perfectly. Masterful.
What bass lines!!! My goodness! Brilliantly done on the great eulogy of the entire western corpus of music. You see 20th century - there was never anything wrong with tonal music.
Wonderful version! He has a very deep knowdlege of technique, musicality and style! We hope to listen to more of him! I'm proud that I could be his pupil!
Stunning. The maestro has managed to convince me this was written for guitar. Perhaps I will grow my nails back and maybe in ten years I could play this arrangement 10% as beautifully.
Muchas gracias 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow! That was awesome. It's often said in the world of classical music that, due to the prevalence of brilliant players these days, one really has to be bold with one's interpretation of much-played pieces such as this one in order to stand out. Well Joaquin has certainly done that. A very unique interpretation, loaded with character and bold choices, and beautifully played.
I believe that’s right. So many guitarists these days are technically amazing and can nail every note on the page, but it seems few have Clerch’s sensibilities, experience, and knowledge to develop interpretations like this. Simply following the score is great as well, but as a guitarist myself, it’s wonderfully refreshing to hear, unique interpretations such as this. Clerch is master. I think he’s taking some stylistic cues from the lute as well, which is a really great touch. Also, the guitar sounds great!
@@johnmckindley-ward8070I don't agree. We are not talking of better or worse. We should rather speak of it being a beautiful flower in a meadow full of beautiful flowers. And his interpretation stands out because he plays with unusually many ornaments. But the Chaconne is also just as touching if you play it extremely simply.
I have played this piece at nearly this level and it takes years and years. Through many decades this has been known to be one of the most difficult pieces of classical guitar available. BWV 1004 just might be one of the most profound songs even composed. Hard work found here. That major part!! Oh man... so tender, just as it should be.
BRAVOOO!! MASTERFUL! He truely understood this piece. This is incredible. The way he just riffs away, adds new harmonies, plays around with the themes, adds a contrast tone... FLAWLESS technical playing as well. This. This is perfection. THANK YOU for this rendition! I've listened to pretty much every one on youtube and this is one of the only handful of pieces I still play on the guitar for almost 3 years now. And this is what I want it to sound like. The other performers did a great job as well, but this one definitely takes the cake! BRAVISSIMO MAESTRO!
Gracias.
The other performances of this piece have a strong sense of being guitar arrangements of the original violin piece, but this one feels like it was originally written for guitar. The ornament on this performance was meant to give the impression of a harpsichord, I think. It was a very impressive performance.
I've been playing guitar for several years and I didn't know that it was possible to play fast passages on classical guitar with the thumb and index finger alternating. I don't remember seeing this anywhere else and it sounds great. 3:32 to 3:42 👌
El sentimiento más poderoso e increíble que se puede transmitir a través de la música es el amor. Bach transmite este sentimiento de duelo hacia su mujer con su chacona, y Joaquín siente el amor y el dolor de Bach y lo logra interpretar a la perfección. Simplemente hermoso.
Joaquin your performance is outstanding! I particularly liked your expression and execution of grace notes. Yours is one of the best interpretations of this challenging Bach piece for classical guitar. Bravo!
That is the one part of the classical guitar environment, that I really just hate: All people talks about technical difficulties and achievements in music, as that is the holy grail! What about beauty and expression? Sometimes the beauty is in the simplicity and I love this music for it's beauty! By the way, the best music, that I have ever known in real life, Thomas Koppel from Savage Rose, where the one, who taught me and often talked about, that beauty in music often were found in simplicity.
Bravo maestro, Bravo. This is a beautiful study that keeps delivering on mood, subject, Timbre, and all the trimmings. It leaves the world a better place by virtue of bringing truth, beauty, and meaning, to make existence worthwhile, which is the entire point. Bravo Maestro, Bravo. Nice sounding instrument also. Sounds like a Romanillious, but there are so many wonderful instruments these days, and you make yours sing. Ronnie Rugato
Beautiful and guitar sound is perfect to my ear. One of Top3 Chaconne performance Bravo. And here with the most hardest playing instrument: Classical guitar. You can't cover your mistakes😂. Like I do with electric guitar...🎸😎.
At the 2013 Boston Guitar Festival, I took a masterclass from this amazing player. So musical, gentle, and intelligent he is! One of his suggestions was to play with the "other" side of your thumb nail. It gives more strength and, if done well, put less strain on the right hand. Try it 😊
I listened to you upon the recommendation of a friend. I really liked your musical interpretation. I'm glad our paths crossed even if it's in the virtual world. I hope to have the opportunity to listen to you on stage live one day. Congratulations and I thanks for your sharing.
:10 probably the most epic B flat I've seen! hahahahah That follow-through, though. And unlike Segovia's stone face, you have that rock face grimace going on. hehe First person I have watched playing a Bach piece that actually got his face involved - and voice. Nice! But careful... if you shake your head too much you can get a concussion. Facts.
Very excellent. We simply cannot bring this off on the violin as successfully as (some) guitarists can on the guitar. I sometimes curse my instrument for not having parallel strings in a falt plane... all to accommodate the bow. But the bow lets us sing! Argh: choices! Bach tortures the souls of violinists by giving us pieces which only guitarists can fully achieve.
The sheer amount of sound that Joaquim is able to pull out of a 6 string is truly extraordinary. A delightful performance, full of life and energy. Very many thanks.
No! It's the greatest music, but it's not for the guitar. It has nothing to do with the guitar, or what distinguishes a guitar, and what a composer for guitar utilizes to make the particular sound. This unfortunate line of thinking derives from Segovia's drive to promote a false patina of respectibility. Great composers for guitar are like Villa Lobos, Rodrigo, Brouwer, Tarrega, Barrios, and many, many others.
@@johnkhobson Bach transcends the instruments, unfortunately those guitar composers are outmatched on their own instrument by Johann Sebastian. His works, while not being written for the particular instrument, are still more enjoyable than most pieces by guitar oriented artists.
Except for the ending, which I think could have been better, the rest was a brilliant performance of this unparalleled masterpiece of the music world! thank you
Question: have you ever studied with Eliot Fisk? You have some of his mannerisms. This is an incredible performance… someone in the comments said you make this too much about you and not enough Chaccone. I love idiosyncratic renditions. I love Alan Mearns’ version too and especially love Angel Romero’s
