How can he change voice ranges? Insane amounts of practice. About 21 years as of this performance. Yep, he went into his national music institute at age 5. He has great natural talent, but that only takes you so far, so he works really hard. Old school discipline like no food or drink that is harmful to his voice. Swimming for breath control. About 3 hours a day of voice training doing classical drills like controlled crescendos and decrescendos. He has more range above and below that you haven't seen yet. He held on to his childhood high range by practicing all the way through to prevent losing it. That was an F#5 he did near the beginning in a mixed belt! He does flageolet and whistle tones and some kind of voodoo reinforced high falsetto. And he pops or slides from one voice mode to another like the kid that does wild stunts on his bike because Dimash has been riding that bike hard for 21 years. He broke through with this song in 2017 at the Chinese "I Am Singer" pro competition as the only non-Chinese, non-pro singer with a cold open on opening night. He sang this French song to an all Chinese judge audience and gained a huge following from the 600 million viewers overnight. His digital music release a few months later went triple platinum in less than a day. And he has gotten steadily better during the following 4 years. A little more range, better control, better musical choices, multiple music degrees, better professional collaborations and writing his own music. And he is constantly thankful for all this success. Igor Krutoy, the richest and most successful Russian music composer/producer, has been writing songs for Dimash. He has sung with opera singers and his biggest influences, Lara Fabian and A-Studio. And even with an animated (Japanese?) vocaloid. Lots of fun! Try Sinful Passion at Sochi in 2018, Love Is Like A Dream in the red velvet suit (Alla Pugacheva tribute concert), Olimpico (aka Ogni Pietra). Or try an MJ inspired music video "Be With Me". His recent Stranger shows the growth in his voice and surprised everyone. He sings a really delicate, emotional song in Japanese and Mandarin : Ikanaide and Autumn Strong (aka Late Autumn). He learned the Mandarin version in one week during the 2017 competition when he barely had a few Chinese traveling words. Most of the songs he has personally written seem to be in Kazakh and have the full depth of his love for his culture. Watch the ends of his performances with the captions/subtitles running and you'll him thank almost everyone that helped him. And he goes back to his old music festival competitions to put in a thank you music pro spot to help bump up the festivals.
