There’s truly more going on in this song than many bands manage in their whole careers. And it doesn’t feel like too much. Melody and arrangement for the ages - to say nothing of the lyrics or bass line!
This song sends my mind into a spin.. Such depth. It's all there. No one could match the dexterity of Paddy's song writing. Enough said. Love You Paddy... Walk on, Stroll on.
Ohhhhh I soooo love this band - they've always been with me, from the tender age of 15 in 1983 (we fell out for a while over the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" because of the cheesy lyrics and cheesier video) and I'm now rediscovering them and replaying all their back catalogue, at the age of 50! Not sure, but thought "Lions in My Own Garden/Radio Love" was the first single though?
I agree but also think that KRR translates all their sarcasm towards the music scene*, then and ever! :-) *Maybe with Rock and Roll specifically?! PS: My daughters love the song - so in a sense it was a way for them to start appreciating the 80's...
WOW! Truly awful song, loved by fans. No genre. Sound like an out take from Zappa, that he filed under total crap in 1967's We're Only In It For the Money, sung by Herman's Hermits.
You’ve just made it sound great - and what’s better than a song that has no genre - that’s what every good songwriter aspires to, for their songs to sound like nothing but themselves.
Paddy would have been flattered by that critic, he loved Zappa when he was young, so to sound like an outtake by him wouldn't be a bad thing in his eyes 😂
one of the best yet most underrated sprout songs out there

From the 80’s, with a flair for the 60’s! Love from Pennsylvania. :-)
Precisely ✌️❣️
In my top ten favorites songs of all time
One of my favourites from the early days. It cemented my love. One of the most extraordinary melodies you will ever hear
Unique Prefab Sprout sound. Marvellous music
Brilliant first single
Fucking mind-blowing.

This was their first release on Kitchenware. Lions In My Own Garden was released on Candle Records the year previously
King of Rock 'n' Roll is a hoot. Both song and video. Hope you fell back in as you matured. I'm 74 and still listening.
Been aching to get a lyric transcription. Got 95% of it. If anyone has the lyrics please point me to it.
And this is how the story started ...PS forever!
Beautiful
Simply the best
Fantastic! Happy to find this!
Reminds me of the Go-Betweens
Agree 👍
Thanks.

shraw shray?
...gone under construction????
horrible taste to the one person who disliked this song
Agreed 👍🏼
I wonder why its no where to be found on spotify
Licensing rights (or lack of) from Kitchenware. The same reason many excellent artists aren’t on Spotify like The Comsat Angels and others.
@@scott12xu can you recommend some other good artist that are not in spotify? or other excellent groups as this one
What's up with all the bizarre diacritics on the song title in the artwork?
I guess it was the Letraset sheet diacritics - the layout artist couldn't avoid the temptation the temptation of transfer them too
Oh wow I didn't notice that before
am I losing it? this sounds slightly fast to my ears?

Hahahah I agree with mark - everything you just described sounds awesome. No genre? Zappa outtake? Hell yes!
@@markofsaltburn - Very good point! 🙂

No genre seems to be a compliment to me. Totally original..
