thai bls are so popular because they’ve gathered quite a big international audience. there’s not much production of queer series anywhere else really, at least that constant and numerous. thailand have turned it into a full industry where some companies produce dozens of bl series every year, so for whoever wants to see these kinda stories being told, it’s a great place to find them. since there’s so many there’s quite a lot of variety in theme and tone of the shows… you could say there’s something for everyone.

Thailand soft power is BL they’re the first place to make regular Bls yearly but BL term comes from Japan so Thailand isn’t the first place to ever have a Bl but they made them mainstream. The quality only goes up year after year early years it was just easy money and newbie actors. But there’s definitely competition now with Japan/Korea/Taiwan

As someone who enjoys the thai BL industry, I believe they are the biggest in the scene and have influenced other industries such as korea. Korean BL's usually did not receive a lot of budget hence why the lenght of the episodes and even the series as a hole are shorter than in thailand. Even the way Korea have been portraying the romance aspect of their shows have changed a lot which is great 😊

Gemini's show My School President, was just one of the most sweet shows I've watched, and Only Friends is just so juicy and messy, and its only halfway done, and is already one of my faves. Only Friends is wild also considering it is airing UNCUT on RUclips for free?!? Korea does have BL, some pretty good ones actually. That new kpop group ZB1 (Zerobaseone), the oldest member was a BL actor before his debut. Fun Fact on Khaotung: the guy in the car next to Khaotung in the video, they are best friends and have been for years, so them being a couple in the shows that I have seen them in is very interesting to watch the bts of. Thailand is a pretty conservative country, but ironically BL is the biggest thing to go international from there.

glad you reacted to tilly birds. they are indeed amazing musician. just went to their concert last july when they visited my country, and they played my favorite song, "Who I Am" as the last encore song. it was crazy performance, might one of the best ive ever seen from a band. if we're talking about thai series, i would say the best one out there is "I Told Sunset About You" (ITSAY), also starring by Billkin as one of the protagonist. i can guarantee almost all of the thai series enjoyers agree that it was the most cinematic, dramatic, tear-jerker, relatable series ever. it was like a movie, the director is a genius. ITSAY won a lot of awards, i think it was more than 20. Billkin also won Best Actor 2 consecutive years for his work as the main character of this series. He is one of the best actor & singer in thailand, and even was invited by David Foster himself to be a special guest in his concert tour.

My School President, which the Gemini song is from, is a musical series about a high school band. So pretty much every episode has 1-2 musical numbers, all performed by the cast. A good, sweet series to watch. BLs are big business in some Asian countries (especially Thailand and Taiwan, the latter of which is probably the most liberal Asian country in terms of lgbtq+ rights). Their international popularity grew exponentially since 2020, presumably because of some shows becoming popular on streaming platforms during the covid pandemic, leading to lots of new viewers being exposed to the genre.

My favourite thai ost is redo by krist perawat. Literally been playing it on repeat that i can sing along to it now. It is an ost from bl drama, be my favorite which in my opinion is a masterpiece that should be appreaciated more. Good plot, good acting, good songs, 100% perfect.

On the Bl front it started with Yaoi(manga) in Japan, slowly started get developed in dramas and series and there wasn’t really a front runner (China had a pretty good hold for a bit tho) until 2014 when a couple of bl shows/ movies kinda went viral/cult favorites and some agency/channel I.e GmmTV( my precious, bad buddy, only friends, my school president, etc) ran with it and decided to consistently invest in producing bls in the same manner they do straight show. In the last couple years it’s started to even out again with Jp, Kr, Ph, Th, Taiwan, etc constantly producing & marketing bl and in this last year glshave started to get a platform. This isn’t a very bad briefing but I hope this answers some of your questions.

I can tell some of the GMMTV requests were by international viewers. Of the songs shown, I knew 4/6. I would love for you to check out more Tilly Birds (Both Tilly Birds and Three Man Down are probably the most popular bands in this decade at the moment especially for a younger audience). Tilly Birds has a very broad range of music and styles ranging from pop to ballads to more grungy rock concepts etc. NONT TANONT is super, super popular with Thai audience and he was discovered through a very early season of The Voice Thailand. Thai people aren't heavy belters or anything like Filipinos but I do think we have quite a popular and unique music scene and ecosystem, you just have to discover and delve deeper. Some other artists I highly recommend ~ LUSS, MONICA, fellow fellow, PUN, MEYOU, HYBS, LANDOKMAI and many others. I would like for you guys to discover a wide range of Thai music not limited to GMMTV or related artists. If there's a proper place to request without a super heavy paywall then I'd be happy to do so, so please let me know.
As a Filipino, I'm so picky with my performers/singers. Some people are GOOD singers, but they're really not all that in live performances. I've seen (and heard) Jeff Satur, Billkin, and Tilly Birds perform live and they literally are the BEST performers out there (-front seat too for all three shows dfgsdasfjdhk) Tilly Birds sound even better in person!!! Billkin sounds exactly like how he does in his recorded songs, and Jeff is such a wonderful artist and perform. All of them perform with so much passion

Thai BL start as a low budget project but grain population because the actor vibe and a courage to be open with it and every one around them is fine with it. That's really the case for LGBTQ in Thailand. And then it got translated to Eng sub and upload on youtube and BOOM!... The most famous of it should be the one titled Together.

Jeff Satur-Fade is also good. For ost song I recommend the original version of 1000 stars by Gun Napat. It's combination of pop-traditional song. It always gives me chill vibe. I also like Star&Sky-Louis Thanawin and So What?-Ford Arun. Those are young male singer with sweet voice. Dark vibe, I like ost of A Gift For The People You Hate by Paper Planes ft Oui Buddha Bless. Paper Planes is my fav in rock. I like Pretend and Bad Boy. The latter is kinda famous around kindergarten kids, don't know why ._. For females, please watch One Last Cry-Violette Wautier and Best Wishes-Bowkylion. Bowky has an insane high notes. For band, beside Tilly Birds I also recommend Three Man Down. And I'd like you to check on some Thai boygroups like LYKN or Proxie. Oh, My Ecstasy-Bright is also cool.
As a long time bl fan, Thailand is indeed the current industry leader. Bl as a genre actually had it's origins in Japan, and was kind of a small niche industry up until like 2013-15ish. Around 2014 China started to make some Bls as well and from 2015 to 2016 I would consider them the leaders of the industry, especially after the very successful show Addicted in 2016. Unfortunately in 2017, and partially in response to the success of Addicted, a censorship law was passed banning queer media. From 2017 to 2019 it was pretty neck and neck between Taiwan and Thailand who was leading the bl industry, with both having some very successful shows. However in 2020 Thailand really started stepping up their game and now their is pretty much no competition for them. Korea could start giving them a run for their money if they ever actually invested money and made episodes longer than 10 minutes. As for if BLs are successful, yes, definitely. I know I got into BL on accident because I was looking for shows were the main characters weren't straight. Because as much as much as the west is supposed to be "progressive" and "leaders in equality", there is a sad lack of queer representation in media, especially in main characters. I know many many other people discovered bl for a similar reasons to me, and it's becoming more and more popular every year. As for is BL successful from a monetary standpoint, the answer is also yes. Some of Thailand's highest paid and most sought after celebrities at the moment are See and Nunew, and PP Krit and Bilkin, all of whom became very popular thanks to the success of their BL series.
I really want you to react to some a bit older thai music like bodyslam, bigass, etc, cocktail, potato, lipta or just other song genre because there is so much more in thai music.

My favourite thai ost is redo by krist perawat. Literally been playing it on repeat that i can sing along to it now. It is an ost from bl drama, be my favorite which in my opinion is a masterpiece that should be appreaciated more. Good plot, good acting, good songs, 100% perfect.

On the Bl front it started with Yaoi(manga) in Japan, slowly started get developed in dramas and series and there wasn’t really a front runner (China had a pretty good hold for a bit tho) until 2014 when a couple of bl shows/ movies kinda went viral/cult favorites and some agency/channel I.e GmmTV( my precious, bad buddy, only friends, my school president, etc) ran with it and decided to consistently invest in producing bls in the same manner they do straight show. In the last couple years it’s started to even out again with Jp, Kr, Ph, Th, Taiwan, etc constantly producing & marketing bl and in this last year glshave started to get a platform. This isn’t a very bad briefing but I hope this answers some of your questions.
ah, there are two different trailers for Only Friends - one concept trailer that was shot before they'd actually started shooting the series to gain sponsors and build hype, and then the official one which you watched. the Tilly Birds song was only used in the concept trailer, which is why you didn't hear it!

I can tell some of the GMMTV requests were by international viewers. Of the songs shown, I knew 4/6. I would love for you to check out more Tilly Birds (Both Tilly Birds and Three Man Down are probably the most popular bands in this decade at the moment especially for a younger audience). Tilly Birds has a very broad range of music and styles ranging from pop to ballads to more grungy rock concepts etc. NONT TANONT is super, super popular with Thai audience and he was discovered through a very early season of The Voice Thailand. Thai people aren't heavy belters or anything like Filipinos but I do think we have quite a popular and unique music scene and ecosystem, you just have to discover and delve deeper.
Some other artists I highly recommend ~ LUSS, MONICA, fellow fellow, PUN, MEYOU, HYBS, LANDOKMAI and many others. I would like for you guys to discover a wide range of Thai music not limited to GMMTV or related artists. If there's a proper place to request without a super heavy paywall then I'd be happy to do so, so please let me know.
As a Filipino, I'm so picky with my performers/singers. Some people are GOOD singers, but they're really not all that in live performances. I've seen (and heard) Jeff Satur, Billkin, and Tilly Birds perform live and they literally are the BEST performers out there (-front seat too for all three shows dfgsdasfjdhk) Tilly Birds sound even better in person!!! Billkin sounds exactly like how he does in his recorded songs, and Jeff is such a wonderful artist and perform. All of them perform with so much passion

Thai BL start as a low budget project but grain population because the actor vibe and a courage to be open with it and every one around them is fine with it. That's really the case for LGBTQ in Thailand. And then it got translated to Eng sub and upload on youtube and BOOM!... The most famous of it should be the one titled Together.

As a long time bl fan, Thailand is indeed the current industry leader. Bl as a genre actually had it's origins in Japan, and was kind of a small niche industry up until like 2013-15ish. Around 2014 China started to make some Bls as well and from 2015 to 2016 I would consider them the leaders of the industry, especially after the very successful show Addicted in 2016. Unfortunately in 2017, and partially in response to the success of Addicted, a censorship law was passed banning queer media. From 2017 to 2019 it was pretty neck and neck between Taiwan and Thailand who was leading the bl industry, with both having some very successful shows. However in 2020 Thailand really started stepping up their game and now their is pretty much no competition for them. Korea could start giving them a run for their money if they ever actually invested money and made episodes longer than 10 minutes.
As for if BLs are successful, yes, definitely. I know I got into BL on accident because I was looking for shows were the main characters weren't straight. Because as much as much as the west is supposed to be "progressive" and "leaders in equality", there is a sad lack of queer representation in media, especially in main characters. I know many many other people discovered bl for a similar reasons to me, and it's becoming more and more popular every year. As for is BL successful from a monetary standpoint, the answer is also yes. Some of Thailand's highest paid and most sought after celebrities at the moment are See and Nunew, and PP Krit and Bilkin, all of whom became very popular thanks to the success of their BL series.
