Hells Revenge, Can i survive it this time? 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 4x4 Offroad, Hells Gate

  • Mid Ohio Jeepers drove out to Moab this summer to grab some Badges of Honor. On our second day in town some vendor friends wanted to join us for Hells Revenge, so it was do or die for me to finish the trail! We had 23 rigs to start the morning, which made it a bit slower than some would like, but MOJO still managed to have a good day! Huge shout out to JT from Nemesis Industries, and Cory from Modern Jeeper for all the assistance through the day! Especially at Hells Gate!
    Had some camera issues due to the heat, but still managed to get some decent footage. Had more than i wanted to stuff into this one vid, so atleast one more vid with some bonus footage will be coming.

    That. Was. In-FRIGGIN-SANE!! I can't even imagine taking my TH on "trails" like that... Caught myself gasping and yelling at this video like I was watching a Freddie Kruger movie back in the 80s!! Best of your vids I've seen so far!

    Nice to see a "civilized" Jeep can keep up with the Wranglers. I've scared myself more than once in my Trailhawk and have discovered the vehicle is much more capable than I am. :-)

      I've only been actually scared the once on fins n things last year. But yeah, usually even with most wranglers, its the driver that holds the rig back.

    One time a few years back, we were at the top of Hells Gate watching. When we got ready to leave the battery in my JK decided to Crap Out. Luckily we had a small portable jumpstart pack that got us started. I think it was Carquest that delivered us a battery to the motel the next morning....

    You inspired me to do fins and things in my 2019 jeep GRAND cherokee trailhawk. I finished the whole thing, totally scratched up the bottom but I don't think i damaged anything. There was one obstacle, right before you turn onto the dirt road after going past the very last campsite in the H campground that I couldn't do. I was alone and attempted three times and backed off because I kept getting stuck on the rocks. The hills were awesome though. Its those pointy and odd shaped rocks that gave me trouble. May come back and do hells revenge too.

      I ride with Jason on our local trails, and my all-stock TH does pretty well. The only issue is when the ruts get deep it can get high-centered, but a quick tug from a friend gets it through. I'm amazed how well Low Range- 1st gear can just creep up or down steep slopes.

    Nicely done. I won't be off roading for a bit, my transmission and PTU just went out in my 19 KL Trailhawk. Seems like it might be a weakness, although I was at 49k miles

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад +2

      My rear went out last summer, but i think it also had some damage from getting rear ended by a lifted JK the previous winter. The tow truck driver was telling me that the Jeep techs that were testing KL's out there had spent a fair amount of time looking at the rear PTU/Diff...so its something they know about. (no questions or hassle, they warranty replaced my PTU) I've wheeled pretty hard this year and so far so good...currently at 45k miles.

      I just don't like how big they are, and i'm not a fan of how dual solid-axle drives. Plus i like all my 'luxury' that you can't get in a wrangler. And, its different. You don't see a lot of these on the trail, though they are starting to get out there, and i enjoy the oddball looks this thing gets.

    Also, when you skid down to driver up that climb around 13mins or so, did you crap yourself? I just watched it from my couch and almost crapped myself, both on the outside and inside views.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад

      Nope. 100% knew i was fine. Didn't miss a beat and kept on moving forward. Those sliders have been the single best investment i've made. And it is what i advise anybody to get first. So many trails i would not have gone down if i didn't have these things. They don't always prevent damage, but they do a darn fine job of it!

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  3 года назад +1

      Some stuff. Nothing that wouldn't be expected for what it gets put through. My issues can all be traced back to three causes so far as i'm concerned; wheeling it hard, messing up and taking a bad line and breaking stuff, or getting rear ended to the tune of $19k a couple years ago. I would 100% buy it again.

Heck, this year i have led more official club rides than i haven't. I'm sure there are some randoms that resent me, but as a whole this club has been simply amazing, and actually talks me up whenever they get the chance! More power to you, Fearless. Years ago when I was a Parts and Service director at a Jeep dealership I would take my GCs anywhere. Now, I do sand, mud and rock trails here in Alabama. I just paid almost $42,000 for my 2021 Trailhawk and there's no way I would even think about doing something like this until I have my lift, rock-rails and better tires... even then I don't think my TH will ever go there.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  2 года назад

      On our vehicle, wheel spacers augment tire size and cause rub sooner. Its basic geometry. I personally wouldn't run spacers if you are wanting to have bigger tires. They don't ruin offroading, not sure where that idea came from. But spacers NEED to be good quality. Google search and dedicated facebook pages and forums can help with that. Yeah, once you have more than 20 rigs things can slow down quite a bit. We'd already been on the trail for like 5 hours when we made the call. We had to do the same thing on Fins the day before...just too many rigs and too many new-ish drivers...was simply taking forever as many people were a bit timid...plus the number of rigs compounds the slowdown. That one made me sad as my favorite obstacles were on the bit we skipped. Was glad i did the whole Fins trail last year.

      Spacers just increase the potential wheel well rub in our vehicles. Opposite of a wrangler, spacers actually lower the potential tire size we can fit as it pushes the corner of the tire into the front/back of the well.
      I have only been up that direction once, like 7 years ago visiting the falls. Probly won't be that way again for another couple years.
