No extra charge, this is the same package price as before. It is a tool the company is using for customer retention. The happier you are the longer you stay a customer. If you enjoy the xfinity flex box experience you might be inclined to upgrade to the full experience of the X1 video platform. See how it works. Although if you choose to stay and just enjoy the flex box, well then that is fine too.

And they'll raise the prices without notifying the customer. My bill went up almost 50% in less than two months after I accepted a year plan and was promised my plan would never change or increase. If that wasn't bad enough they took out some channels and lowered my internet speed. I have no other options where I live cause unfortunately Xfinity is the best "service" that's available in my area. I tried at&t but that was a complete nightmare.

If u dont pay ur bill in a 30 day cycle u have 2 months worth of balance aka 50 perecent more then ur monthly rate as a balance u stopped paying what your contract said and now ur paying just to keep ur service on. They convinced me if I did the contract that my price would be locked in other than maybe taxes. So now its up 10 dollars and when I called to complain they said also it will go up another 10 next month. So what was the point of the contract then? I'm back to it being how it was before the contract. They're so shady. Also told me if I move to an area without comcast I wouldn't be penalized for cancelling, also not true. I don't even miss having cable. I can watch local and cable news clips on demand and live sometimes. Before I got the flex box I thought about getting a subscription to sling but not anymore. As our first baby step towards cord cutting, Flex helps. I do look forward to the next step and cutting Flex out all together. It has it's frustrations; for example, if the box gets turned even a smidgen, the remote doesn't work until it's put back into a precise position. Despite the frustrations, it's worth saving 1,000 dollars a year off the bill. Great video by the way; Flex for Dummies!

Hulu will be available in March. I Had roku and apple tv in the early years and trust me they didn't either have hardly any apps. For a free 4k streaming device it's very nice and quality made .I believe xfinity made right choice with this for internet only customers,I believe before long you will have the spotify and disney before it's all said and done , I suggest if you can get this for free I would ,you can always send it back but I believe you will see it's TRUE potential before long.

Good review. I just hooked up my flex for the second time and it is a decent box, but yes Roku, fire and Android are definitely much better. The remotes I've always liked with the backlit buttons but it's too big for my taste when it comes to a streaming box remote (love my shield 2019 pro, fire and Roku remotes) :).... I didn't like the UI much and the remote buttons are pretty hard to press compared to the others (just me nit picking). May obviously it does have Hulu but compared to the other streamers I have like you mentioned, it does not have the option to scroll through the add on channels like HBO, STARZ etc. At the top of the Hulu screen like the others do which is a bummer. When I search the networks with flex on Hulu for HBO, it just shows me Conjuring in my stuff which is weird. But hey it was free as only a WiFi customer. Can't beat free! 😃
It is a great idea, but it's just ehhh IMO. Shield tv def beats all of them but at $200 it better lol.

15 to 20 years ago you had all the content you could handle and wanted coming out of your cable box for somewhere between 50 and $80 a month. And that’s all you had to worry about. Hundreds and hundreds of channels for about $50-$80 a month. Then everybody decided that it would be easier and less expensive to cut the cord and go with all streaming services. So now, I’m getting the same exact channels, the same exact content from the same exact providers, just delivered through third-party online platforms for about $100-$150 a month. We haven’t really replaced anything. We’ve taken the exact same crap and just made it more time-consuming to access. This isn’t smarter or more pragmatic in anyway.

Great video review. It’s very accurate given my experience. But a couple of things. The first flex box is free. Each additional one is a monthly fee. It also does not provide any local channels whatsoever. I ended up getting rid of my flex boxes and replacing them with 4K Amazon firesticks. More apps and you can jailbreak them to get tons of new, free movies.

My remote does not look list this one. Mine is XR16 (newer?). Only 9 buttons, not all the buttons shown in this video. The XR16 is the nicest remote I've ever used. Simple--not 27 or 32 confusing buttons. The few buttons perform all functions I need. Best of all: Illuminated, which ALL remotes should be but often aren't. Voice control. And control of TV on-off and volume.
I ditched my two Roku devices and now use (2) Flex devices and remotes. For my needs, Flex does all the same things.
As for "free." I got my first one free, but pay $5/mo. for the second one.
Finally, I had no problem setting up the device and remote. Good job, Comcast.

My problem with the "free" service Xfinity offered is that it added a broadcast and regulatory fees for the "free" channels. So it wasn't a free service as promised, and the charge was between $20-$30 in total. Also, the free channels I got where at 4:3 ratio, requiring an subscription to get HD tv. A lot of smart tvs, roku devices (etc) have a free streaming app that does not charge fees, and lots of channels in HD format. if you already own another streaming device there is no need to add an additional box. Also, some of the alternatives can handle apps (netflix, disney+, amazon video) much better than the xfinity box can. Important to note, you change ISP and loose the ability to use Xfinity's box, all your settings, favorities, etc, gone. I do not see what is the advantage of using thos free service. One special case is if you live in a community that includes cable in the HOA fees, maybe it is time to renegotiate and get internet and streaming instead. You will still encounter all the other issues and nuisances you mentioned in this video. Xfinity is a big dinasour that is loosing ground with all these changes in technology and the safeguards they previously had that ensured they were the only ISP allowed to serve a community. Now they have to face real competition from att fiber, tmobile LTE internet, etc. On yhe management side, Xfinity's billing and account interface has improve but it is still a mess needing to switch back and forwdard between the app and web guis and limiting more and more what you can do on your own. Pus the database is full of bugs that even they can gix, or wont, over the phone. There are good people trying to improve the service, hopefully they can get the support needed to fix all these issues. I wish yhem luck more for the all at the bottom affected by the lack or poor decisions being made at the top, not much for those up above that had use this a cow to get rich and dont even care or realize what is going on with the company or the service provided to the customers.

Where I work, we use the same box (the Xi6) as a cable box. We get the same live channels that we could get with a cable box (NBC, CNN, HGTV, CBS, etc.) with this box. They don’t have the other apps like RUclips, Amazon Prime, Netflix enabled, but it’s convenient because we can plug those boxes in wherever we have our network.

since converting to Flex our bill is going up because they say we are using more data after 7 months. We use the same amount of data. There is no way of checking how much data you use it is their word against yours we turned off flex box and our usage has dropped drastically so using third-party apps is causing us to go over our monthly data. If you are Pairing the remote for the first time, atleast move closer to flex box and point your remotely directly, makes it alot easier.
Once you are done pairing, it'll work perfectly fine.
Xfinity has different model of Voice remote, you can visit nearby store and grab one you like or feel comfortable with it. Doest cost you anything.
Flex is free, so for those who have only internet service and can't afford Cable service, it's good for those customer.
You can rent or purchase your favourite movies once in a while through flex box and watch it on big screen.
If you have netflix ,Hulu or prime video subscription already, you can watch it on your big screen through flex with your family rather then watching from smartphone or laptop alone.

As an audio video installer I have talked to many customers that wanna “cut the cord” so to speak. No actual cords are ever cut by the way. If xfinity wants to keep their customers it pretty simple for them. People generally are happy with cable. It has Netflix and everything built into one remote. All xfinity needs to do is stop raping their customers wallet every month. Nobody wants a car payment size bill every month for cable. The initial sign up contract expires. And suddenly the bills get huge. Comcast simply needs to appreciate their customers and treat them fairly. Their customer service is terrible. Their automated phone line is so frustrating to get through to speak to an actual human WHEN you have a problem. And Maybe improving their equipment quality so the cable boxes and router don’t need to be rebooted so often couldn’t hurt either. If Comcast concentrates on being better at the service they charge way too much for nobody would leave. High priced shitty service isn’t the best business model.

I had a different remote problem with my flex. I got a smaller remote without number buttons and the directional and power buttons worked, but the middle "enter/select" button was dead. Because of this I couldn't get past the first setup screen question. I spent 2 hours on the phone with support as they tried to "trouble shoot" it....the problem was pretty obvious to me and I became frustrated with the support guy, told him this wasn't worth any more of my time and hung up on him. My internet went down 5 minutes later. I called tech support back and he had deactivated my modem (removed the mac address)! So to answer the question in this video's title....no.....no it was not worth it.

It doesn’t matter what i watch the screen goes black and then goes back to the main menu after 5-7 minutes. I’ve tried resetting, refreshing and checked all the settings. (Possibly just a bad box)
I also noticed it can not be powered off so i wonder if it’s going to eat up my data at night while it’s not being used.

One thing I noticed that you didn't mention is that if you have X1 Flex system, you can add broadcast TV (for $$$) to get regular TV channels without adding any other hardware. I just wanted the local channels, so I subscribed to the minimum cable offering.
But the really slick thing for us 'non-cord-cutters' is that you don't need a regular cable box at the TV like you used to have to. When using the little Flex box, your regular TV channels come wirelessly from the Gateway (Modem/Router) just like the streaming channels! And you use the remote to 'combine' your streaming and your regular TV into one spot and one Remote. And the voice input on the Remote allows you to search for content and you may find some on the TV channels and others on the streaming channels all grouped together.
This reduces clutter quite a bit, because now you don't have to have the old style cable box at each TV or a cable outlet either. You just place one of these little flex boxes with each TV and it connects wirelessly back to the Gateway, and you get regular TV and streaming channels on every TV. There can be as many as 5 TVs hooked to one Gateway this way.
