Don't make the song in the key of G#.
The subs will sound the best in the D to F# range, any higher or lower than that it will sound very inconsistent and will lose a lot of energy.

D to F#? That's just 5 notes in a row bro. If you consider to keep it compatible with music theory, it may be even lesser in some cases. And also you didn't mention about the octaves. It can't work at D1 to F#1 right? Then why don't you mention about octaves as well? If you say for example D4 to F#5 range, I'd accept it but you're just saying D to F# and it seems just talking for talking.
Every bass sound has its own sweet and dead spot, so basically it's needs to be done by ear. Even for subs. If it's becoming dead in the same root note w the lead in a lower octave, you could pick that specific bass note up for one octave and vice versa.
