I always thought this seemed like it should have been the first Rocket Knight game and the first be the sequel. I mean he shoots beams from his sword on the first one what happened here?
I honestly believe that the Sparkster games took place before RKA (Sparkster himself having blonde hair in the sequels but having brown hair in the original supports this theory of mine)
Gens could have benefited from having more buttons on the controller. That was my only gripe with this game. I admire what they tried gameplay wise but little things about the controls felt so odd to me. Not so bad when you get used to it but it is not fluid feeling like the SNES with all the extra buttons for the new moves. Bad guys were really cool in this one though. I like how they were more magic based compared to the SNES that seemed like tech based.
Still, the first game used only two buttons and it's eons away in quality to this one. I don't think it's an issue of buttons what happens with this game, but overall generic and bland game design. In the original Rocket Knight adventures I am certain there was a genius behind, and here (and in the snes one) Koname took the license under their hands and made more generic games based on the character.

I think the steampunk style of the first game was really original, and fresh, here the mechas and the aesthetic looks more of a standard sega genesis game. Still have it's charm but the style is not very consistent with the first one
As a curiosity, the robot they transport in the truck is the same one that appears in Rocket Knight Adventures when you fall into the mountain range. It seems those lizards were recovering technology from the pig empire.

Things in this game are incredibly know-how, at least what i played in first level. Like, its not difficult if you know what you are doing. But if you don't you're just hoping you outlast the enemies sometimes, because it's very hard to underatand what the game wants you to do in order to win. And judging from this, a lot of things just use only i-frames from the rocket which just seems dumb to me. I just don't like how the focus is on the rocket, it just doesn't work for me. Rocket knight adventures just did it better in every way if you ask me.
It's missing the stage 5's minibosses. But still, not very interesting. Most of the game is bland: two "face" minibosses, awful stages 3 and 4, and worse music and art. What happened here after the marveloust Rocket knight adventures?
I'm agree with the stage 3, but 4 it's kinda funny, but to me worst level has to be the first one, it's not bad, but have lousy mechanics and tedious mini bosses, it's not exactly a good impresion of the game :T sadly cause I think it's a pretty solid game (it is no the first one but still is a good one xD)
@@tntmoxy9697 To answer the OP's question too, I think what doomed this sequel is that Konami was trying too hard to be like Sonic. They even gave Sparkster a similar spikey hairstyle.

I like how the enemies from the SNES used more technology to fight against Sparkster while here they are using more magic.
And in Sparkster 3, Wolf guys use technology again. Although final boss seems like to use some kind of magic as well.
