In my personal experience of playing sport in times of darkest despair, I found I was at my clearest of mind because I didn't want to think about what was happening around me or elsewhere. I spent 5 hours at the crease batting. It wasn't until I got off the field that my mind immediately went back to the harsh realities and sadness. So maybe for those players, those two hours were liberating from their pain and sadness?
Dons have north, Richmond,Gold Coast, Carlton and west coast in the next month.....after round 14 they could be 10-3-1 and theres no certainty in Carlton beating them so thats conservative estimates. That must feel good at the hanger considering preseason predictions were bottom 4 and at this exact time essendon were predicted to be 1-8or 2-7 depending on if they beat hawks in round 1. Can they sustain it?? Or will it be a monumental drop off. Lastly what would be the aim inside club walls?? Top4 would have to be at least on the board wouldn't it?? Or is it simply finals, lessening the pressure thats sure to build??
If I could pretend I haven't seen the last few Saints games, I'm still glass half-full. Lost several games by a kick or 2, only 1 belting at the end of a tough interstate run. We aren't getting pumped, so there's some resistance there. We need something new in the centre, at clearances. Don't have dump kickers take responsibility for forward 50 entries. We're at the bottom for converting I think. If that could improve by a goal a quarter then anything is possible.
The top 8 looks just about set, I seriously doubt we'll be good enough to sneak in. Which means we might as well finish as low as possible and hopefully take a top 5 pick into this year's draft, which is stacked with the top-end midfield talent we desperately NEED.
