For future reference, every bearing has a four digit number on them. This is an international number and gives all the details of the bearing. So easier to search for. At the next service get the rear wheel bearings checked too.
Very happy that you could repair the broken bearing, but be carefull... by looking at the video images, it seems the driving chain is really too tight. Normaly the bottom line of the chain must be able to move 3-4 cm vertically. If not, you will break the bearing again, or break the gearbox bearing and more. Please take a look it's very important. I wish you all the best for the coming days ✌
You should check that your chain is NOT too tight. Check when you are both sitting on the bike that the chain is not like a guitar string. I have the same bike. Her name is Champ. Good luck.
Fantastic that you managed to source a bearing of the correct size (as I sad in my last comment all bearings are pretty universal). Remember guys this is a workaround to keep you going and you’ll need to get a ‘sealed bearing’ at some point as the one you have will be exposed to water, grit, dirt etc. and will wear pretty quickly compared to a sealed one. Ideally always replace them as a pair (both sides). To check wear grab the wheel at two opposite points e.g. 1 o’clock and 7 o’clock positions and push/pull across the axle - there should be no detectable movement. And get that shock sorted! 😀 Mike
Thats ball spacer is call the cage and it is always the first thing to fail. When it goes the balls can all come together and then the bearing can fall apart. As you can imagine that would not be good. I would keep water crossings to a minimum now. The bearing was the correct size but not a sealed bearing and your seal was damaged by the old bearing. Water will wash the grease out and shorten its life. If it stays mostly dry it will last you home. Maybe Lavi can become a mechanic when you stop being adventures. You can always take the wheel out and re grease the bearing it would last forever then.
Wow yes luckily it didn’t totally fall apart on us then before we could change it! We will try to keep it mostly dry then, we’ll also get it check on our next service to make sure all bearings are still looking good 👍 Lavi really wants to learn motorcycle mechanics now! Probably will happen
I'm in tears to see the Carribean sea and that beautiful beach! Enjoy to the fullest! Anyway, it just came to my mind that we saw you for 1 year on the bike but you didn't mention any birthdays of you or Christmas for instance. How have you celebrated those days? Please show it in the coming year, would be nice how you can be home for each other although you are changing location every day! ❤
What a day, eh? Beginning with a broken rear wheel bearing, finding a match bearing replacement, getting the bearing installed, and then ending the day on a Caribbean beach in Honduras. Seems like a lot compacted into one day! I'm glad you were able to get Bumble Bee fixed. Wow!
Glad you got sorted with the drive hub bearing. As you now know bearings aren't specific to motorcycles, with the part number on the bearing race any bearing supplier should have one & the outer seal which would have been a good idea to change at the same time as it will have worn & wont seal as well as it should. Its worth mentioning so you can monitor the two actual wheel bearings may have had extra loading & increased wear. Probably time all wheel bearings were examined & repacked with grease anyway. Also given you are way beyond normal use, length of time on the road & much more to come maintenance will need stepping up. Very impressed at your progress & its a joy you are experiencing so much help from people of all nations. Stay Safe
Yes apparently we heard that even washing machine bearings can be cross compatible! 🤪 we have had all the bearings checked and so far so good for the others 👍 whatever needs doing I’m sure we’ll solve it 😊 Thanks Brie! See you in the next one!

Good work, team. Great how people are normally willing to help motorcycle travellers. If everyone rode a bike, we'd all get on! Ride safe, happy travels 👍
Hola L&O, Congrats again on making it to a year! That's quite an accomplishment. How wonderful are the Honduran people? I'm glad that Bumblebee got her bearings back! How cute was Frankie? He was so excited. Beautiful scenery, amazing people, and a stunning beach. How awesome is that. Relax and have fun! Glad you made it happy and alive. Safe and happy travels and see you in the next one. ❤
Bearings and bushings are manufactured in "standard" size. Most of the time, it is easier to find the bearings you need at a bearing store like in Canada, "General Bearing Service". You can also find the chains needed for a motorcycle drive train as well as lubricants and maintenance products. Also, you should check in the motorcycle maintenance manual the proper free play for the chain tension. Your's seemed a bit too tight, which can actually hinder the suspension. However, too loose will make it drag on the swing arm, and potentially "jump" the rear sprocket.
the fact that you had to pull over and check again because things were not PERFECT - Made me so happy because that is EXACTLY how I would of done it. After driving for so long... it probably even feels weird because it ISN'T wobbly. I am glad this is fixed. Can't wait to see your US length of the trip. Hello from SEATTLE - Cheers!
Congratulations on completing the year. Good to see you had a really good day with getting the bike sorted, good weather, and a lovely place to camp and relax. Should set you up for hopefully lots more happy days ahead of you. 😃❤️ 22:17
Heyyy Lavi & Ollie!!! Hope you are doing well....So glad you got the bike fixed !! That beach is beautiful not all cluttered with people !! Take care will catch you in the next video as always you are in my thoughts my friends !! : ) : )
Fun watching you guys. Hey, as others have commented, your chain looked very tight. Adjust the chain soon otherwise you’ll ruined your new bearings quickly or break your chain. Easy to do, probably in the manual
Wheel bearings come in pairs so the side you didn't change the bearing needs checking. Just check for side to side play. There shouldn't be any play. It's a bearing seal not a gasket.
It is actually the sprocket carrier bearing that failed and not one of the two wheel bearing. But I agree it’s a good plan to regularly check for any play developing in the wheels, especially with the load on board and the terrain and distance these two are doing.
Been following you guys since you started. All because i was riding a V-Strom my self. I'm from Honduras living in the USA. Glad you guys were able to try some baleadas! They are the best!
Interesting how nervous we get with you when you have problems and then how relieved we are when you get them solved! Also, Lavi, since you do so well at grocery shopping, perhaps you would consider doing the shopping for us? LOL.
I wonder how hard, or practical would be to have an axle designed to carry two bearings in parallel. If one fails, the other is there to take on the load. It could prevent this sort of thing happening while in the middle of nowhere. Specially on a worldwide trip! It's ridiculous such a small part can ruin the day. Glad you got it working though. Enjoying your episodes btw. Cheers and happy anniversary!
@@brie6966 Oh! Cool! So that explains why their wheel didn't come out or something bad. Good to know this as I'd like to get a bike eventually and this was in my mind, the what ifs of a bad wheel bearing!
Congrats, that's a lot of time, but only a beginning. NOW, wherever you are because of time lapse of travel and video presentation. The other side(right) has a different bearing in it. It needs changed as well. When the worn one wobbled it put a lot of stress on the other one and that will cause it to catastrophically fail as well. I've seen this a lot in Alaska especially with heavy loaded Suzuki V-Stroms. Much the same as you all are traveling. So heads up. You get to USa get a set of bearings for front and rear. Always carry and extra pair for rear. It may be you need front axel, steeering head and swingarm bearings. Sure they are worn as they have as many miles as the failed ones. Be smart, think ahead. Good vid, paradise yes.
Just feel I have to make some comments regarding MC parts. There are 5 bearings, 2 for each wheel and 1 for the sprocket - which you changed. Bearings are standard and you can buy them in any bearing shop when you know the specifications. If I were you I'd get some parts in the US: 1) the 4 bearings and the corresponding seals, you didn't change, 2)clutch plates, 3) break pads, and 4) fork seals. These parts are not expensive and don't take up a lot of space and could really save you big time when you get to Asia. Not sure about your chain and sprockets - did you change them already? Hope you don't think I'm a busy body and should keep my thoughts to myself 🙂
Glad go see you guys back on the road ❤.... Question: do you guys maintain the chain lubed ? I used a lube called "Chain Wax". It prolongs the life of the chain by keeping the seals lubricated. Ride safe.
Congratulations Lavi & Ollie for 12 months on the road. How brilliant are the people of Honduras and getting the bearing sorted out on Bumblebee. I am jealous lol. Question about your T shirts. when i looked online it said US sizes and i am in the UK. normally an XL but would i need the 2XL. i don't want it to be baggy and i don't want it to be too tight. i will wear it when i am out on my motorbike in support of your journey. any ideas
Yes and one more to come 🥳🥳🥳 so excited 🤩🤩🤩 thanks so much for your support! The US and UK sizes should be the same. Lavi is S and S fitted perfect and Ollie M and M fitted perfect, so if you have always XL than XL should be fine for you 😁😁😁

I found the chain tight, you should get on the bike and have someone check that the chain isn't too tight.
Yeah I picked that up too.
It's probably contributed to the early failure of the bearings .
One more thing ,if they are running a tight chain ,chances are it's doing damage at the output shaft, sprocket end too.
This really needs attention.
