- "It would be amazing to find the first record of a white shark here, but what I was more excited about was the opportunity of having this big, capable group of American scientists come to Ireland with this huge research platform that we could then use to bring together a team of local Irish shark scientists to have discussions and work together to form collaborations about sharks and rays in Ireland in general. It's been really productive trip despite not having had a bite yet." - Dr. Nicholas Payne, Trinity College Dublin

I am confused over the whole scientific investigation. With the funding, is it not a wasted opportunity to tag white shark known locations within the med to understand their migration habits. Then to explore the Atlantic?.
I’d thought exactly the same thing. Tag near Gozo & the Adriatic and watch them go!
Probably couldn't get a license to patrol the Med
Exactly , they go black in east coast of US ?
Would it not have made sense to have actually gone to the Mediterranean, tagged whites in the know locations and the. Tracked to see their movements? Seems like a wasted trip.
What part of the Med is Ireland in? lol
I think Ireland is up above, or at least somewhere around Britain. Isn't it?
@@sharks3653it was a slightly sarcastic comment by the other person. They're right ireland couldnt be further from the med 🤣
Surely if they were visitors to uk waters on a yearly basis then there would be more encounters with the large number of recreational shark anglers that we have in the uk? I do think they are visitors, but I would guess its very rarely. Is the reason for not starting in the Mediterranean due to having problems getting permission?
Funding maybe
They weren’t in UK waters, they were in Irish waters part of the Republic of Ireland. But yes agree, it would have made sense to tag in the Mediterranean and then track their movements from there.
There's no great whites in English or European waters
I was wondering if the expedition has actually properly entered the Mediterranean sea? Or is this still going to happen?
Very good question
They are done, on their way back now.
Should have tried Scotland
So I'm guessing they got the anchor fixed? They gave him that pipe for free? Generous. Years ago, there was a sighting and a photo taken of a supposed white shark in Ireland.
Operation, Save the Med, could be renamed, Operation this Advent is Dead😂
