This about sums it up. Loving my Surface Pro 11. Even tho they've yet to send me the Flex Keyboard. The OLED is just that good. And being forced to use it as a tablet has shown me just how far Windows has come in that department. It's not completely horrible anymore. You'll need the virtual TouchPad occasionally, but it's workable and responsive. Could be much better with touch targets getting larger and an Android like gesture navigation system for sure

Im using the Surface Go 4 to run my whole business. I use it 75% of the time without keyboard. The SP line got too heavy to use it in tablet mode tbh. I hope for a ARM Go 5 with a 11.5 inch screen but under 600g ... Hopefully with even bezels around all sides like the go 4 :)

The thing i notice in the comment section. Those who complain quite alot about this device are those who are not even the target audience like gamers and power user, and worst of all, those who cant afford it in the first place 😂😂. Dude seriously, if you cant even afford it then you are not the target audience. Better stick to a budget windows laptop or chromebook. Complaining wont reduce the price lmao. 😂😂 Better wait for next year or black friday sale.

Thanks for the content. The surface Pro over the years has always been my most productive device but was always held back by poor battery life, slow speeds from time to time, overheating and fan noise. I would still always go back to my Surface Pro(s) to get work done and would use a charging cable often.
I picked up the Surface Pro 11 (base model /X Plus) and I'm really happy. This seems to be the model that brings everything together with the negatives gone. I say this as someone that has an M1 iPad Pro and had a ton of Macs in the past as well as at least 5 other generations of iPad over the last 20 years or so...

Yeah the battery was a huge issue, my surface pro is a cool device but it's almost always on my desk with a charger plugged in or damn close. I still like having the added flexibility of the form factor being able to manipulate it in a million different ways and put it on some cool third-party stands and everything... But if I'm going to be off the desk at that point I'm just better off with a large phone or an Android tablet. Most of it's done.

In truth, the Surface Pro 9 hit the target from a performance standpoint. The battery aspect was still not great but I purchased an additional 65 watt charger. They are tiny and are no burden to carry around. These days, I rarely fire up my honking Xeon based desktop workstation, except to play a game or do some DB work.

The performance is about the same between the Pro 11 and Laptop 15 models.
I got the base model ($999 with X Plus with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD, but I upgraded to a 1TB SSD). It's basically silent and runs at most lukewarm for my use cases (casual computing and software development). The fans turned on once while I was installing Visual Studio, but that installer makes Intel machines sound like they are preparing for lift off. 🤣

It was a great idea in concept, the concept of windows 8. I was going stay in the Surface camp forever because I had a great experience without it first time around. The whole multi input PC with a cross platform OS idea was great. Smoothly executed in performance, but with missing features and a GUI that many didn’t like. Thus it ended up not working out! I liked where they could have gone, I genuinely did (being one of very few). But now… isn’t that dead? Isn’t it just a laptop with a laptop OS in the form of a tablet with a pen now?
That’s my impression but I really don’t know. I might change my mind though. I will get back into checking it out in depth when upgrading my personal machine next time. It’s going to depend on how much point there is having a tablet form factor for windows 11 itself. How that experience feels. They need to polish things for once.

I now bought the Surface Pro 11 OLED with 512 GB - I will test this and I hope the native ARM apps are more widespread.
I came from a Surface Pro X, which by the way works like a charm, even after almost 4,5 years. Of course, it's slow compared to the MacBook and iPad Pro, but it's just with a 60 Hz screen and a pimped mobile SoC. Runs Windows 11 24H2 now.

I'm curious if Surface on ARM will save the Surface line-up, which has been in freefall in revenue for the last two years and is now below 2017 levels. I always understood that the demise of Windows as a tablet was it was significantly subpar to Android and iPadOS, and even the flexibility of a full OS needed to be more to stop the rot; $1.8 billion in revenue fell in 2023 alone. Maybe a last-chance saloon?
Anyway, when you can buy great tablets for $600, having a starting point of over $1000 makes it tough if you only want a tablet. Most people I know who need both use cases tend to buy a clamshell laptop and a tablet combo. People realise that compromising to have one less device to carry is not perfect. Even the ex-MS CEO said that making Windows a tablet hybrid was a billion-dollar mistake, with MS effectively becoming nobody in the tablet market and now seemingly giving up by killing off the Windows subsystem for Android.
Do yourself a favour and buy the best laptop and tablet you can afford, and do not settle for a halfway house that compromises both. But let us still hope that Surface sales stop crashing and burning as they have some hardcore fans who love the device, and we need them to survive for that diminishing demographic.

IMO, the 11th Gen Surface Pro has solved 2 big issues for tablet use: Battery life and fan noise. Next, MS should prioritize form factor by making it lighter, and improve the UI for tablet use cases. Basically, they should ensure that it's fully usable in an enjoyable way via the touchscreen only for tablet-first users.

And a offer mini LED as far as a computers go though I don't know if they offer any mini LED screens. In general I'm happy for the surface because they need to push the iPad forward or an iPad just needs to die. At this point pro iPass and iPad Air should have dual boot. If they don't want to do that they should have created a software that is a hybrid of both a computer and a tablet. Because we finally reached the point where you get to see a tablet do computer stuff to the fullest extent. No software holding them back. Also dare why we got the m4 instead of the M3 because of how good the chip was. They would have been behind and that's why I love competition because people have to do better when they up against better.

While, contrary to Apple fans, I agree that Windows is usable for with touch (although file explorer is a pain to use), this Surface is not going to replace most iPads or even Android tablets... Because battery life is not everything, and size and weight play a big role when tablet use is important. There is no new Surface to compete with the iPad pro 11" and even the 13" is way lighter than this. Historically surface has appealed to people wanting a laptop first and a tablet occasionally and this is not much different. And the reason why I stopped buying surface pro after the 2 and 3 is because it's compromised as a laptop, it's not great on your lap, which is something I need often on the go.
Now if they start making a 11" pro or a go with Arm then things could be different (my go 2 is the only surface I use as a tablet).
And one last thing, the Samsung ultra keyboard is indeed what you called it (I have it), but the Magic Keyboard is excellent, you probably haven't owned one. Sure overpriced, but this wireless keyboard is probably overpriced too for what it costs to make.

OLED inclusion is disappointing to me. I intend to stare at the same screen for most of the time while working and prefer light mode during the day for increased focus on text. Based on how SKUs were designed, that forces me into Snapdragon X Plus which then forces you into 16GB of RAM, in return this shortens the lifespan of the device and usability even for some programming workloads. Arguably most of the compute tasks already moved to cloud but still it is completely off the charts. I could not care less about OLED, not with the limitations it enforces I would still prefer IPS 11 our of 10 times someone asked

      @RemofRenaissance 5 дней назад +1

I actually didn’t consider that (I got the X Plus). It runs great though. Is the shortness in lifespan for you because you’d prefer more RAM or do you base on general last ability of Surface Pros (out of interest)?
I’ve yet to have one break down on me. It granted my old SP5 got real bogged down over the years.

@@RemofRenaissance just the amount of RAM, in general all of my previous computers are still in perfect health but they are obsolete. In most of them I went with extra RAM in order to be future proof and it payed out. 16GB is considered absolute minimum for Copilot+ PC and - at least for now - we rely on a lot of emulation - which needs a lot of RAM in the first place. In 2 or 3 years we might be looking at 32GB as a base.
Could you describe your general workload to me a bit if you do not mind? I am still a bit on the edge but leaning towards getting the base SKU with X Plus and older signature keyboard. Just for general productivity and maybe extremely light gaming on the roads like Order of Battle II. Pen input together with performance during productivity tasks will be more important to me.

    • @RemofRenaissance
      @RemofRenaissance 5 дней назад +1

@@dominikondrasek Sure, workload is very basic. So lots of productivity in Office 365 but mixed with data analysis which would be datasets / databases, very often hundreds of thousands of rows or close to a million and using a reporting software for visuals on the data such as Microsoft Power BI.
It can actually get quite RAM intensive. Some prefer to get Macs and run through emulation. This is the first time it has ran real smooth on any computer. So nothing graphical. Just a load of data analysis.
On the older Surface Pros it would bottle neck as the fans would start spinning, the machine would get real hot.... But I knew RAM would be ok for now as the workload could get handled with 16GB. Probably I am doing the odd bit of memory swapping.
My plan is maybe 2 years from now change the hard drive to something faster and that may eek out another year. I see base model as a 3 to 4 year machine.

Affinity photo and designer and their entire software suite is full blown on iPad exactly the same across platforms same with, Clip Studio Paint, Paint, Z-Brush, and many other cross platform software that is identical no matter what platform you use.
Then no mention of the iPadOS exclusive pro software which is what the real iPad Pro users use. Luma Fusion (best editor on any platform) Artstudio Pro (best drawing and painting on any platform) Procreate used by millions, GarageBand and Logic Pro, I could be here all day honestly.
So what tech tubers do is show photoshop lol. A software made by a horrible company who purposefully under developed it and anything else they make for iPad that’s why no one takes them serious. They talk about Final Cut Pro which is literally only at 2.0. I don’t know where people got these baby app malarkey from!

I so wanted MS to deliver a tablet that can be used as a tablet. But regardless, the software does not deliver anything near an adequate touch environment. The Surface will always be a niche unit for those that want a super light laptop. Like a Swiss Army knife, it can get things done, but not efficiently.

All these “Surface vs iPad vs tab s9” miss one absolutely crucial factor which absolutely wrecks the Surface’s viability as a tablet replacement; APPS!! More specifically steaming apps.
The Netflix/Prime/Disney+ Windows app is absolutely garbage compared to the iOS or Android versions.
Moreover, you don’t even have download functionality on them so you can’t even use them on a flight. (Netflix just announced that the Windows app will lose download functionality next month).
This is a pretty major use case for tablets that the Surface (and any Wndows device) completely fails in.

Since the micro led screens from the iPad Pro made their way to the MacBook pros screen….I would imagine they are going to replace the screens on the MacBooks with the tandem OLED screens….it could be this year….just saying

I think you're not understanding why mobile OS tablets are where they are in comparison to Windows tablets; simplicity + apps designed around that. A mobile OS tablet + a laptop with a desktop OS is still the best combo. The master of none approach will always feel compromised.

$1k for a device(s) that isn’t x86 with all the software incompatibility and battery that only on par (if not slightly worse) than the competition is just ridiculous. I’m not even mentioning UI that isn’t developed for full touch gestures

If the competition you’re talking about is a MacBook, I’d understand your battery life statement. Compared to other Tablet PCs, this is 100 percent the best battery life. And emulated software performs well for the large majority of situations. That said, it might not just be for you

I did not hear 1 good reason why anyone needs this. Just heard how you need to give up any real expectations and drop them below what your moderate laptop can do for 2-3x less money. What do you mean $350 for a keyboard that should be better than any other keyboard in its price range, for $350 bucks it better be the best keyboard in general.
