I’ve always loved the way Joyner does songs like these. Hitting both perspectives. Telling a complete story from both sides of a spectrum is tough especially when you’re dealing with complicated matters such as addiction because everybody’s got different experiences and such.
This joint hit home as I’ve had people in my life that at times were very self destructive, be it addiction or just strings of bad decisions. That “tell me is it really love if I have to ask if they’ll stay” line and the way Jellyroll delivered it floors me.
Thank you for sharing your experience. My pops and uncle both had bouts of addiction as well and I was so young and distanced from it, it was like so many things happening around me that I had no idea about cuz my mom shielded me from it but being grown now and understanding why certain things were happening. Its just wild.

Addiction is hard. You are correct about withdrawals.

Great reaction. Joyner is such a good storyteller. Think this will be
played on mainstream radio and will be nunber 1. Guy in video is a recovering addict and lost a friend to drugs. Your channel is one of the best!!

Really dig your reactions. This hits so hard for me. I was an addict and alcoholic since high school. 10 years clean now though.

The guy playing the role of the addict is actually a recovering addict. I forgot his name and the song but he has a song from 4 years ago about his addiction. Try finding it and listening to it. Really almost ties into the creation of the song I believe.

No he’s not, please stop spreading that on reaction vids! I KNOW HIM, he’s NEVER been an addict, but lost many friends! Look at my playlist.

Thank you for sharing your story. You never know who needed to hear that they aren't alone. Regardless of which side people fall on, I see a plea for compassion. Everyone has a story, this one is mine: People who say marijuana is not addicting are straight up wrong. I do believe there are good things about it - but not the way I used it back then. Here's a poem I wrote back when I had been smoking every day for 10yrs. The first half while I was Still smoking. The rest was when I set my addiction aside and followed a new path. Not preaching, just a glimpse of where I was then. (FYI "jones-ing" was a term for wanting to get high)
    PLANTING A SEED
Pack the three-footer and hold it in.
Nature’s Prozac, let the games begin.
Thoughts around the world with your body reclined.
Numb to those around you, no perception of time.
Days on the couch with work in-between.
If only the world knew the things you have seen.
A glimpse of reality, so pack some more.
“This is so cool,” as you stare at the floor.
So detached from your body, comes the infinite sigh.
Happy to be numb and still not sure why.
“Nobody knows,” as they see that you’re high.
Your world’s in slow motion, it’s your favorite ride.
The mind needs no body, the body needs food.
You’d know where you’re headed, but you smoked your first clue.
    Unwelcomed sobriety, its Mr. "Jones".
No danger to society, just pick up the phone.
True friends will share as you sit together alone.
“I’m so high,” breaks the silence, you hear someone moan.
Satan’s friendliest angel in nature’s disguise.
Grown from the soil of decomposed lives.
…A new life later, I reflect with clear sight.
I had forgotten that world when I gave up my flight.
The picture I painted, its colors have changed.
I find no more humor in the words I arranged.
Where was the magic? The key to mysteries unknown?
Where was the peace? All I really felt was stoned.

The searching, the grasping to a feeling that fades.
I’m amazed I ever thought this might be the way.
But I won’t sit her ashamed because I stand here forgiven!
I am cleansed by the blood of my savior who’s risen!
He’s the magic, He’s the mystery, He’s the purpose I desire.
He’s every answer I longed for, my all-consuming fire.
He’s the rich soil I look for, when I fall to my knees.
Then welcome the harvest, as I plant a new seed.
    Much love - Sue

Wanted to come all the way back here to recommend a joint I experienced last night at his show. If you haven’t seen it, you should check out Joyner’s Broski video. It’s a track off his latest album that also features Best For Me and the song is so powerful dude and gets visceral. Highly recommend.

I'm f**king crying right now seeing this I can't count how many folks I lost to addiction so many of my folks taken over substance abuse. and not just ones that didn't wanna get out but those that tried and failed like james and pandora and so many more. I loved the part about the friend doing his part as the victim because I've seen it and it doesn't help. it's not your problem focus on the friend you have with the actual problem. if your problem is dealing with a friend with a problem and it is hurting YOU you are not the friend. is it gonna be hard on you and probably F up your life to fix this YES 100% yes it is very likely but remember it's your friend who is lost and at a dead end that will see him dead unless you help. sorry i am rambling bro my bad just really you have no idea how deep this hits me. sorry for ranting on. loved the react you said you had another jelly song gonna go peep that right now.

Joyner is the master of telling a story from multiple perspectives. Jelly's voice on this track is perfect and haunting. Jelly can rap too. Check out Same A**hole, Fire and Rain or Fall in the Fall.
