A great singer with lots of charisma and star appeal - and a flair for theatricality... in three words: a real diva... 🌹🌹🌹
Thank you for this beautiful post! 🙏🍀
(Singing „Vissi d‘arte“ while lying flat on her stomach - what an idea, what an effect!)

Yes, an effect - but a fine artist!

Absolutely! Only a very fine artist is allowed to use effects like this one... to further enhance a performance - not to cover up for a lack of excellence, the way the lesser gifted sometimes attempt...

      Yes please!
She was astonishing and probably the last real primadonna assoluta. Especially astonishing considering her two principle contracts in Vienna and at the Metropolitan Opera were held simultaneously.
In both houses she reigned as primadonna and created many roles such as "Die Ägyptische Helena" as Helena or Turandot, Jenufa, Ariadne, Marietta, die Kaiserin or the main role at Boccacio and Donna Juanita.
I wish there would be more live recordings of her very best Performances.
      Such a great artist.

A GOOD performance of an exceptionally difficult air. The acuti, without portamento, show her mettle. Jeriza's records are much better that they are often said to be.

Possibly the most beautiful woman ever to appear on the operatic stage.
She also made 14 sides for Pathe in Vienna. listed in Girard and Barnes as 1908, though I suspect 1910-11. I have never heard any of them.

I'm in the same situation as you: only the HMVs turn up here.
