    • @jack.satori
      @jack.satori 10 месяцев назад +1

This is not even about the patriarchy. Like Sharan points out even when two women are involved, let's say it's a movie about two best friends with equal weightage and screen time, the popular actress will get paid 4x the amount her costar is getting paid. Because statistically speaking the popular actress' inclusion in the movie will draw 4 times the viewers due to her fame or fanbase. Equal pay for equal work goes out the window here.

Bruh shyamolie is talking no sense. Ofc, physicality matters in badminton, the speed, agility, reaction time that makes you better! Socio construct only applies until women were not given chances in sport. But rn when you take football or basketball these professional women players were trained from childhood. And still they can’t compete w men at their level. Thus men sports are more watchable than women. It’s not because we were not brought up watching women sport or girls were not made to get involved in sports!

The women in this podcast are Doing such are disservice to gender representation 😢When you are all of superficial feminism from Karan Johar movie school of feminism , with no depth , you end up blabbering without mettle and say after 30 mins I don’t know my point but I don’t agree ! Keeps saying predominantly male , patriarchy 10 times , without one intricate point . The highest performing male ceo and highest performing female ceo is comparable !in sports , beyond the physical
Incomparability , it also boils down to entertainment value and price a consumer is ready to pay in terms of money and time from their limited resource . So they will choose the superior experience say male football. That doesn’t mean female sports should not supported ! But you cannot blame audience for not spending on lower quality sports and can’t burden audience to live with it for sake of female players . Did that lady say I don’t watch female football coz I’m not into it after all this gyan ! Exactly if u don’t , don’t be hypocrite and say other person is product of patriarchy and urs is choice .If and when it becomes organically enjoyable , people will pay . Till then demanding equal pay for unequal value is not equanimity . Women cricket’s viewership increased recently since India started winning !Sports for women is not natural is again untrue .. see all athletes from Kerala fromEconomically not well off background . From relay to sprint to high Jump ,count female Athelete from Kerala representing India. Why are people in certain terrain better in certain sport ! See commonalty of CrossFit winners country of origin . 100 mtr is mostly won by which race ? Sports is one arena where talent can take u places . there is undeniable aspect of gender, ethnicity , race and many more ! See the street footballers vs club bred footballers in same team ! But yes as a state we need to incentivise sports ! Few years back guys who play football in india could only end up in railways sports quota job , now they can live off professional football with Leagues .men in hockey doesn’t get paid same as cricketers ! It is not gender bias there ! It is uninformed to think that female centric moves are recent. If u consume beyond Karan Johar , from adaminte variyellu to ARth to Erin brockovich -Take any industry. again see if there crowd pulling art and then u play it to capitalist market to demand ur price . Should all influencer get paid based on minutes of video basically shuts that illogic anyway .. in conversation need to bring data , thought and rational and bounce off ideas rather than cliche superficial Statements to appear woke ! Please don’t do such disservice to sensible women by wrongly representing women in such platform ! One had no opinion and one had bizarre logic !

It's interesting how perceptions about performance in different aspects of life, including the bedroom, are often tied to appearances. Stereotypes can shape our expectations.
On the topic of women's football, there seems to be a recognition that the quality of women's sports has historically been overlooked due to societal norms. It's important to give all athletes, regardless of gender, the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level. Change is happening, and women's sports are gaining well-deserved recognition.

  • @basibasheer

    Some thoughts:
    1) This whole comparison of quality in women sport and men's sport is pointless, I mean why? It is two different types of humans playing, definitely there would be differences. If you only want to watch men's, only watch that ,simple. But bringing this 'merit' aspect in to this bizarre when the question is why is women sport is not encouraged. You can talk about merit when people are starting from same position, are men and women starting from same position in sports? NO! (for anything actually)
    2) Sharan asking why women are not watching women's sport is again pointless because a) when did women started playing sport professionally? b)how long did it take channels to finally live stream women's sport? like ever since women's cricket got broadcast live on TV, there's a massive difference in following. same with women's football, when Megan lead the US to victory in 2019, it got lot of traction and that actually kind of kicked off the sports, but you know what she is still being attacked for being a queer and being open about it, when the US performed badly in the last WC people were quick to blame on the 'wokeness" so you need to understand the intersectionality in these things before producing blanket statements. I cant leave without mentioning England women team winning the euro cup and Kelly's celebration, it is such moments that take sport forward, it was such moments that took men's football here, so it will definitely take many moments in women's sport as well to reach the level of popularity or acceptance you are talking about.
    3) Shyamolie making the point of not even having proper attire to play the ffing sport is the most important point here, that is the reality and you guys who could get out of the house in any attire at any time to play with anyone is judging on a gender which has been sidelined from sport for generations. How insensitive! (I mean, not Sharan or Fahim, you guys are probably putting these arguments just for the conversation maybe but saying in general)
BCCI decided for equal pay last year, ECB decided for Equal pay this year, US open is celebrating 50 years of equal pay. #justsaying

      1. Women & Men start from the same position nowadays . For example - the Olympic athletes be men or women both have been training all their lives . Yet no woman would stand a chance in front of men . The difference in records of men & women are proof to that .
      2. Women have been playing sports for a while now ( for the past 2 decades at least there is a proper systematic structure for women sports ) . Women aren’t watching women sports because they themselves don’t find it appealing . Shyamolie herself is an example who was trying to be the torchbearer but could hardly name any female athletes . I agree with u on the streaming part ever since it started there has been an increase but it would never reach the stature of men’s sports that’s a fact due to the stark contrast in quality .
      3. stop talking about the past in the last 15-20 yrs no girl is judged for playing sports . I myself had a couple of female friends in my school days who used to play Football with us . There is a significant % of girls who are genuinely not into sports so, u can’t categorise everyone into “ not playing due to stigma “ . The concept of equal pay is absolutely bs . U get paid according to the value u bring in simple ! Listen to what Rhonda Rousey ( esteemed MMA fighter ) has to say about equal pay ( perhaps it would change your perspective ) . In modelling industry , women are paid more due to their value . #justsaying

@@dwight2762 Dwight, 'men and women start from same position these days', I don't know what's this place you are from, but I can bring you latest studies or surveys on how women's participation in sports is linked with stereotyping or general discrimination. Even your example is wrong, when I'm talking about starting positions, I'm not even talking about women already in sports, I'm talking about the women who are not even getting access to sports. it is a whole different route they have to take. And, I'm not even saying tomorrow a Shelly Fraser would break Usain Bolt's record, my point is they don't have to and that shouldn't be an argument as to why women's sports needs more encouragement.
I have already explained why someone doesn't know woman sports personalities even though they want their sports to grow.
And, you knowing two girls who played football isnt the way you counter an argument on systemic exclusion, if that's the case why talk about two girls you know, you can talk about Smriti, PV Sindhu, or Deepika! Also, what is this significant % of women not interested in sports, if yes, so what? And do you mean 100% of men are interested in sports? In your way of countering arguments, I can say I know 2 guys who are not into any sports, can I say there is a significant % men not interested in sports. I wouldn't.

What I feel is that initially, Shyamolie's points on women's sports were unconventional. Some of them were pretty good points, but she somewhere lost track and wasn’t answering Sharan’s questions directly. However, her opinion on whether actors/actresses should get equal pay for equal work was undoubtedly correct. Equal pay for equal work is about fairness and valuing everyone’s contribution. Even if one actor might attract more viewers, it shouldn’t overshadow the hard work of others. Fair pay promotes respect in the industry.
Fahim's business perspective is also relevant, but it shouldn’t overshadow the hard work done by significant actors/actresses. Shyamolie really gave a great solution for that, as she said, "peg a certain percentage from the profit." If an actor clearly brings in more viewers, it makes sense to reward them with extra pay based on the project's success. However, starting with equal pay for all actors ensures fairness for everyone’s effort. This approach blends fairness with business logic. It respects everyone’s contributions while also providing a way to reward those who bring extra value to the project.
I agree that Shyamolie was a bit off-track in that discussion, but it’s unfortunate that people didn’t focus on this solution she provided, and are hating on her in this comment section ,possibly because they were still thinking about the earlier arguments about women’s sports and audience numbers. Also, in my opinion, the dunk should be lowered if it’s getting hard for women athletes to play ;) .

okay this whole conversion has been bugging me for like a few days now, I'm a female student-athlete, and I'm a basketball player for an (almost ) all-boys school. Only one batch of students has girls. Me and my batchmates form the only female sports team in the whole school. So here is my opinion on the whole thing.
Men's sports and women's sports are not the same thing. It cannot be compared in any way whatsoever. Biologically men are stronger and more athletic than women, so of course, the NBA will be more "entertaining" than the WNBA, but that doesn't make it not fun to watch. What Sharan said bout the hoop height thing, I agree, because a normal basketball hoop is 10 feet tall and an average Indian female is no more than 5'3" but ofc there are women tall, two of my teammates are 5'7" and 5'8" and the WNBA has players 6 foot and up. But definitely, they're not as tall as fucking Shaq and shit cause, of Mother Nature. So the amount of power I have to generate(I'm 5"4") when compared to my guy friends who are 6 foot is much more. So yes if the hoop height is lowered the game would be much more fierce and shit I agree. But when it comes to me as a person, I like to support all female basketball players as much as I do men, cause I personally know I cannot play as well as them, men or women. From the WNBA to even the national basketball tournament, I will watch it cause to me it's the game that matters, no matter how boring it might be, I know what they've had to go through to be in that position, so I will support them in whatever means possible. Men have more muscle and bone density than women, they are more physical and more powerful so yes even if I were to play with a guy my same height, the odds are in his favour. From a tender age, women are conditioned in a way that sports are disgusting, cause you sweat, and build muscle and it is seen as not "feminine" in society's eye. Women are conditioned like that. But when they grow up to understand that it's okay to partake in sports, more than often it is too late. Your male counterparts will definitely have twice the experience and knowledge when u begin from scratch. We have a batch strength of 270, out of which 124 are women, but as a team captain, I couldn't put together 12 people cause of the stigma surrounding female sports. You should have seen the visible disgust on the girl's faces when I asked them if they wanted to join the team. Most didn't want to, and those who did weren't permitted by their parents. We are only eight players who are pulled down at every instance possible. When an invitation to partake in a tournament had reached out school, they'd told them that they had no girl's team at all. But we ended up bringing home the championship trophy. About the price money thing, as far as I know, ofc on an interschool level, boys tournaments have more teams competing against each other than girls, so it's fair they get more money cause they had to work harder as in they had to play against more teams than the girls had to.
So this is my take on the whole thing. And to my darling women, QUIT YOUR GODDAMN EGO AND SUPPORT WOMENS SPORTS, IT IS AS SIMPLE AS THAT. Men go crazy for their favorite sports stars and we don't even try to form an opinion. Don't we female athletes need support and recognition from people of the female community too?

shyamolie ❤ for always standing her ground. Equality vs equity. Ideally women's physicality is different from men. More women should be encouraged to take up sports, more women to be encouraged to go watch sports at stadium. Many external factors at play. Badminton is a good example. Popularity of women players are more than men.hence ticket sold is higher..they need to ideally be paid higher...

I get your point and Shyamolie actually had a great point when she said women's sports will grow in time and it has not reached the spot were men's sports has reached due to history that it lacked. But she made no sense when she said equal pay for equal work with Bollywood actors example, you get paid based on what you can sell! Accept that fact and work on it rather argue.

Idk if you guys actually watched the movie, but Zac did a pretty good job playing Ted Bundy. He looked pretty much the same and was cast because he captured the charisma and image that enabled Bundy to be believed and even idolised. So yeah, the entire glamourisation saga is why Ted Bundy's case got national headlines and why he had soo many female fans supporting him during the trial. So it was pretty much showed perfectly in the movie.

Hey about the serial killers being glorified and having good looks , I think you are referring to Ted Bundy. But ted bundy is a serial killer who was known to have used his good looks in order to prey on woman and the same goes for a number of serial killers. I feel like most of the biopics and documentaries were created to have a deeper understanding of who they were and what led them to be killers rather being just known for the number of kills or how they killed their victims.
Love the podcast . Much Love ❤

Guys! Shyamolie is just trying to say that it’ll take time for people to actually watch women’s sports. Y’all are just bitter and not willing to understand what she’s trying to say. Sports have been predominantly male oriented and people are used to watching male sports. Now that women are getting the opportunities, it’s obviously not the same as men’s sports. It’s just that simple.

Let's be real here, women in Football or Cricket finals will never pull in the crowds like it did for the men category.
Wrt to same pay, bring in the audience and you will get paid the same or even more. There's no sugar-coating here. Watch on youtube what Rhonda Rousey said about same pay.

A message to Shyamolie- we can promote and support women’s sport as much as we want but guess what? No one’s gonna watch it if it’s not good enough for the viewer. End of story. Welcome to the real world where Nothings given but earned. Get better at the sport so that people start watching it or keep crying 😂😂😂😂😂😂 your choice
