THIS IS FROM A 52 YEAR OLD WHITE LADY WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH ALTON'S MUSIC WHEN I HEARD TOO LATE TO TURN BACK WHEN I WAS 13 YEARS OLD, IN HACKNEY EAST LONDON. NEVER STOPPED LISTENING SINCE THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so very cool! Keep listening to the sweet old reggae music and the newbies but goodies like Romaine Virgo, Chronixx, Christopher Martin and Koffee !
I am 66 and fell in love with the music at 14 yrs old, still loving it 44 yrs on........ Never stopped playing this wonderful, deep, soulful music.....
Music has no colors. There is a piece of every type of music we can all relate to...regardless of genre, country of origin or even language. Once you open your ears to the stories it's easy to realize we are all very similar. Tech has made it easier to connect to different generations and I'm glad we are here together. Alton is greatness! Keep it up, Jeannie. We are all distant neighbors.
i use to work for Sir COxson DOdd at his Fulton street recording studio as a Artist and Audio Engineer. He used to call me Panama Rude Boi. He introduced me to Jamaican Rum and Milk!!! LoL He was a great man and Great Teacher!!

I’m an Alto Ellis fan for all times! You can hear and feel his heart is on his sleeve as he goes.....Even in that Dance Crasher. And he is on live...whooh!!!!
One of my all-time favourite tracks from the Father himself. One killer riddim this is, quite a few versions out there, the stand out being Sugar Minott's "Never Give Jah Up".
When we was growing up in Kingston Jamaica we never called it rock steady or ska my friends, we called it as we knew it to be Reggae Music and thats the name it will always have n will always be, at ''Studio 1'' i never heard anyone or Alton called it rock steady or ska, it was originally Reggae Music, and will always be reggae music to us Jamaicans, ska and rock steady are totally different music. 1Love Kings and Queens.
@@stacklargeempireent.320 You sound totally clueless. This is rock steady and so were most of Alton Ellis' songs. Reggae grew out of rock steady and rock steady grew out of ska.
The "flute" solo is actually much later "add-on" played on a synthesizer. However done with a good taste. The 1969 original is a couple of minutes shorter. This extended version with the flute-like synth solo was released on the 1995 CD version of the album. Just for your information, it doesn't diminish the greatness of the original a bit, in my opinion. Cheers.
Yes Juha, you are correct. There is also a different cut with vocal by Alton & Hortense, wherein Alton's vocal is very slightly differently phrased, so I assume he sang it back with Hortense later. I also love the 12", but my favorite is the great Lennie Hibbert vibes cut. The synth here sounds more like whistling, rather than a flute per se. All best wishes to all the Helsinki massive /steve
i'm just so glad i had the pleasure to see alton live many times, what a professional ! he always gave me the thumbs up LOL & such a lovely man. r.i.p alton. nice to see chris carrying the baton.!!! (he's great as well with his own style) ..................
From A 54 year old Jamaican girl who was born in Hackney East London I agree with you> I LOVE ALTON ELLIS. I heard him first when my family moved to Kingston Jamaica. DANCE CRASHERS. I was 7 years old.
One of my favourites had him on two shows at only 29 years old. He was a gentleman and a true professional. He performed twice with his sister Hortense. Classic...Thanks for the memories. Ellis family.
Oh the memories hearing this brings back 😊 The Locarno Club Birmingham as a 17 year old enjoyinng life and experiencing first love (Joe).. Fantastic times.
Such a small island...Soo much big talent , these singers had Fame in there own right but I think it's worthy to mention most made way less than they truly deserved , compared to black Soul artist in America at the time .... Jamaican musicians made music for the people and stayed humble
Definitely agree with you Dora. 👍👍 It's such a shame they were never paid what they truly deserved. All I know is Jamaican singers and musicians set the standard for great music worldwide. 👍👍🤗🤗💕💕
Many of the top musicians of era were from other Caribbean nations, Lynn Taitt, Trinidad, Tommy Mccook and Roland Alphonso. Cuba, Jackie Opel, Barbados, Hugh Malcolm, Panama. Rita Marley was also Cuban.
