    Tired of fumbling around trying to find your winch controller in the back of your Jeep? Need to use your winch quickly and don't want to get out of you jeep? However you use it an in cab winch control comes in super handy! Being able to control control your winch without ever leaving your vehicle saves time, it allows you to be in control and focus on driving instead of winching, and its just plain cool! In this video Matt and I will show you how to wire an in cab winch control switch for a winch and controller that uses 5 pins. These 5 pin winch controllers have been out for about 10 years or so and is a safety feature over the older 3 pin style. But the 5 pin is a little trickier to wrap your brain around. Let's make it simple for you!
    Wire: amzn.to/2YOmBpo
    Aircraft Safety Switch: amzn.to/2Ajqrg0
    Inline Fuse: amzn.to/2Lg4v7P
    6-PIN Switch: amzn.to/3blZMvN
    Bolt Light: amzn.to/2Z04rRo

      I would take those wires out and un twist them. They create electromagnetic interference being twisted. I learned that when i bought a car with speaker wires twisted that way. I bought new speakers and it still sounded terrible. I bought a new head unit and that's when i found twisted wires. I un twisted and sound quality was fixed.

    You can simplify the wiring by using an on/off switch with an embedded LED. Eliminates one hole and one wire. Not a big deal, but I think it makes for a cleaner install on both 3 & 5 wire winch setups. Aside from that, I followed your method last night and got it working and it looks great. Thanks for the tips!

    Nice work. Having an in cab control makes sense. It would be nice if you could wire up a relay to detect when the hand control is in use to interrupt the in and out signals from the in cab control. This would prevent conflict between the two controls.

    • @mattschweinb73

      ajm8127 I think this would over complicate the circuit for little gain as you wouldn’t normally be trying to operate the winch with both sets of controls at the same time.

    I used an extra winch controller I already had, all I had to do is take the handle apart, and hook it to a rocker switch, added a bypass switch to send power to the rocker. That way you dont have to lose just plugging the winch controller in.

    I wouldve just cut the handle controls square off and run that cable straight in the jeep to my inner controls and obviously the the other end would just plug into the winch where its supposed to . But Im guessing you still want to maintain the option to control the winch from outside of the jeep?

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  4 года назад

      Yes. You'll need both options. You can buy 4 or 5 wire in one sheath at home depot or online.

    Another video that solidifies my theory that there's some unwritten rule that says you can't make a Jeep offroad related video without using "Howling at the Moon" playing in the background. Within the timespan of a week...MischiefMakerTV, LiteBrite, Flex, Rocks & Rollovers & now Bleepin Jeep, all used "Howling at the Moon" in their content. I think it's a Jeep RUclips Illuminati thing.

  • @russellv6234
    @russellv6234 4 года назад +2

    There's actually an easier way to do this on a 5 wire that I found when I did mine and it only requires running 3 wires from the winch through the firewall. There's no reason to run ground and +12 through the firewall from the winch because you already have access to those inside the jeep. Set up your enable switch to control the solenoid ground and then your winch switch terminals to +12 to the 2 solenoid wires. Really simplifies the switches wiring as they are not tied to each other in any way.

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 4 года назад

      why isnt the relay permanently grounded? whats the advantage of warns system and can you just permanently ground it? i did my smitty bilt into the cab couple months ago and just ran a in wire and an out wire from the winch into the cab, grabbed power in cab and sent it out either one of those wires on a momentary DPDT switch

    About a month ago went wheeling with my daughter. Came across a dead tree across the trail. Was able to get around it fine. On the way out i snapped the front drive line. My stupid self didn't bring tools so i couldn't remove it. It only bound up under load so i was stuck winching out about a mile. This is also when i learned i need to swap out the 249 for a 242! No 2wd option and a blown vicious coupler... anyways i got to the down tree and learned that there's no trees to winch around it. So over the top i went. Learned the weak points on my home made bumper as i bent it down at the brackets. But i got out and managed to pull the tree out of the road in the process... also managed to run out of gas 500 feet from the road so that was done with battery power only. And the battery died completely right at the road so i literally made it by the skin of my teeth! Bumper brackets are reengineered and the drive shaft replaced so all's well that ends well!
