This lady is an exceptional songwriter, historian, philosopher and a deep caring person who shares her rare gifts of music and writing with all. I was graced to hear her at a private dinner last night in Winnipeg honouring those who serve their country. Loreena told me that this was a difficult song to create and put to lyrics. It is in my opinion one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

I have been listening to this song almost every night before going to bed for the last 7 years... It has something magical... ethereal... it makes me dream and relaxes my body and mind. Just recently I traveled thru Scotland & Ireland listening to Loreena's music and its hard to describe the effect. I have listened to her for years, but to see some of the places that she drew her inspiration from and listening to her beautiful voice while walking in the steps of the ancient places really made me feel like it was where I belonged.
My thoughts: She sings about war "No choice may ours to be" - Wars are almost always fought because of few individuals, rather than the people. She also sings about the misery and waste of life, addictions, violence... Then she starts wondering about where God is in all this, "we wondered where our God was" - Where is our God to let this all happen. She goes on a search for God and finds people using his name for glory and their own gain. She is desperate for an answer, and "whilst the sky is weeping", she finds the solution: It is ours to hold the banner It is ours to hold it long It is ours to carry forward Our love must make us strong She means that whenever we are in misery, we should be able to hoist and hold a banner in name of God and mankind. Then she makes a prayer in the morning light having found the solution, finishing with a repetition of the two first starting verse.

She performs live concert very few comparing others. It is as if she doesn't like to run for fame and fortune. She is beautiful, but she maintains very casual get up and make up even in live show. She is a down-to-earth person and I love her.

this song is so fantastic. in her bio of this song she stated she had great trouble coming up with the lyrics for it. but boy what a job she acomplished in doing so. this song is so haunting and yet beautiful at the same time. she is such a hottie nobody even comes close to her passion in her songs as she displays. she ios my all time favorite singer, composer and artist. and at 58 my range of music appreciation is imense to say the least, and she is at the top.

Loreena McKennitt was inspired to write this song while she was in Gordian, Turkey, in 2002; this song is on her CD called "An Ancient Muse." Phrygia was a kingdom in the west central part of Anatolia. The state of Phrygia arose in the 8th century BC with capital at Gordium (of the "Gordian knot" fame). The Phrygian language survived until about the 6th century AD.

Loreena is one of my favorites.
I just don't get it why she is so reclusive in nature. She lives alone in a farm 80 miles away from where I live. She has produced only 2 music videos so far. She performs live concert very few comparing others. It is as if she doesn't like to run for fame and fortune. She is beautiful, but she maintains very casual get up and make up even in live show. She is a down-to-earth person and I love her.
