Using an Inversion Table for Back Pain Relief

- Inversion tables can be a great way to help get traction in the back / spine. This traction can help stretch and open up the spaces in the spine relieving back pain and pressure. Buy a Teeter Inversion Table here: shrsl.com/2j95u (affiliate link)
While inversion tables or traction devices are generally safe, there are some important precautions. People with hypertension, circulation disorders, glaucoma, or retinal detachments should not use inversion table therapy due to the pressure to the head and eyes from hanging upside down. There are some other precautions as well, so make sure to check with your doctor or physical therapist before trying one.
The inversion table I’m using in the video is the Teeter FitSpine LX9. It’s a sturdy inversion table that has a lot of nice features and feels smooth while inverting.
When using an inversion table, shorter, more frequent sessions often work better and help the body adapt to the traction. Also, starting at a modest angle (20-30 degrees) for the first few weeks and increasing over time (only as you are comfortable) is the best way to start.
Begin with short 1-2 minute sessions to allow the body to adapt to inversion. Over time, as you feel comfortable, gradually work up to a duration that allows the muscles to fully relax and release so the back can decompress. This should typically take about 3-5 minutes.
Inversion therapy may help with common conditions like general back pain, herniated discs, sciatica, degeneration, muscle spasms, and other things that can cause back pain and discomfort. Check with your doctor or physical therapist to see if inversion therapy is right for your individual situation.

Nice shirt
Thanks.

Decompression has been a game changer to manage my disk issues. I use a different wall mount method but I encourage everyone with disk issues to use decompression daily for life. My dad has a Teeter and he says it is quality and it helps his back and hip pain.
I bought one of these back in 2002, I had a back problem and spent loads of £'s with "professionals" jumped on the inverter and boom haven't had to use it since (2020) but have lent it out to many people, great product, think about it, it aligns your spine and opens up the joints allowing fluid to flow back in and relieve your back from every day compression.
BEST SHIRT EVER
😎
I came here to say the same thing!
I'm not even sure how I found this channel, but I'm really glad I did. I have found your videos to be incredibly beneficial for studying for some of my excercise science classes. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks, and you're welcome!
Been using one off and on for a couple years. Lately been using it 3 times a day for 3 minutes each time. I started out slow like Dr. Jo recommended. The trick is to make sure you have it adjusted to your height so that you can control the movement with you arms. If you are not able to easily control the movement with your arms, it is probably not adjusted properly to your height.
I could not go Without this, Every morning and just before going to bed!
I love my Teeter... best investment I've ever made for my low back pain relief. Neat to see you cover this great tool. Thanks! 😀
You're welcome!
Which table did you get
@@Lannie74 I got the Fitspine X3 model by Teeter. It's saved me thousands in chiropractor visits.
Tip: if you have bad ankles like me I wear my Doc Marten boots and tie them up all the way to give support to my ankles. Any tall boots should work.
😂
I've been using this for many years. Works wonders for sciatica, as long as you use it consistently. Dr Jo's advise is spot on. I have my machine set to 40 degrees, and I do 3 sets 90 seconds inversions 3 or 4 days per week. Don't expect instant results though.
had mine since the 1990's thank you for that
Best investment I ever made, even though I hurt myself 5 years back by not scrapping in right.......
I love your vibe and energy
Thanks.
Thanks for making this so understandable. I had a inversion table a few years ago and went full 90 degree. That cause vertigo, immediately. I gave it away. The problem was the instructions were very vague. I just purchased another table, now that I understand how to use it.
I have spondylitis grade 1 and spinal stenosis at T-12 L3-4.
You're welcome. Good luck.
I m seeing it for the first time thank you doc

You're welcome 😎
Anyone with spinal stenosis used this?
These totally work!
Nice mam .... U r looking great 🤩
Thanks.
I've been searching for an answer to this and not found one yet. What about stiff back muscles *after inverting?* I've been using mine for about 4 days at an intermediate angle of around 60 degrees. I can't tell if I'm supporting the natural curvature of my spine or if the lumbar cushion is in the right place, and even though it does feel great when I'm on the table my back muscles are pretty stiff after inverting. Is this normal? Does it stop after awhile? Is it a sign that I'm doing too much?
How much...
👏👏👏👏 fantastic
Thanks!
Hi Doc Jo, Does it help with hip joints? I have tight external hips.
Can it works for DDD?

I heard about this machine. Going upside down but not too long
It's very relaxing.
3-5 Minutes everyday no back pain I'm 67ys.
How are your dogs
They are good. They will be back soon 😎🐾
Any recommendations for a table that supports 350lbs? All the teeters only support 300
I've only ever tried the Teeter, so unfortunately, I don't know of any others.
Can the table be locked at any position?
Acupressure points?
You look taller than the machine 🤣
It stretched me out 😂
Miss the dogs!
They will be back soon!! On vacation 😎
AskDoctorJo Lucky pups! I'm jealous! Enjoy the vacation! 😎
I live in Switzerland so instead of paying money I will just lay on a 20, 40, 60 degree slope
How much?
