  • In this video, I go over some important considerations when trying to place a sink in the corner of the kitchen, in a diagonal fashion.
    There are 3 key considerations:
    1) Efficient use of space
    2) Ergonomics
    3) Dishwasher location
    What I'd do instead: Alternative locations.

    Thank you. This was very helpful in helping me decide whether to have a corner sink. It took into consideration questions I hadn't thought about.

    Thanks. I was writing out floor plans for a tiny house and trying to figure out if a corner cabinet saved space or took up space. I didn't know how to figure the measurements. This helps and now I know it's not what I want.

    Thank you. I am interested in a double sink in the corner. This is helpful to see the measurments.

      Thats exactly what my rental has and its difficult placing things on the counter. The look is always upsetting and nothing can be done.

    With a corner sink you have gained more work space to your right surely if you had a regular sink wouldn’t that take more workspace up ????? The corner sink as allowed you to utilise the area for preparing surely

    The other thing I don't like here is the dishwasher being next time the fridge.

    Interesting analysis, but I wonder how I could use the corner efficiently if I move the sink away from the corner.

      Yes you're right, corners are always going to be a little tricky. Because no matter what we do, it won't be as easy to access compared to a regular cabinet where you can stand directly in front. Here is another video where I discussed the corner cabinet storage using the "magic corner hardware" from a few years ago. ruclips.net/video/EGbAiyRFntA/видео.html

      That video has put me in a spot now...it going to take me ages to decide between the blind corner and the magic cabinet. Let me go and trouble my architect. ;)

    • @MTkitchens
      @MTkitchens  2 года назад +1

      @@ShadowQ8486 haha, sorry. hopefully you have more information to make a better decision now. also if you have a good kitchen designer, he/she might be able to shed more insight on your specific requirements and budget, than your architect would. your team arrangement might differ, but in general, architects usually focus on the higher level design, and kitchen designers plan the little inch and half inch differences here and there. and we figure out what accessories go where, blind corners or not, that type of questions. And of course, we juggle that with your budget and your desired cabinet line if you're not getting everything custom made. hope that helps.

    30x24” diagonal cabinet for farmhouse style sink? What size farmhouse sink would fit in that? Thanks !!

    O.K, but what if I put the sink against a wall that is not an outside wall but is against a bathroom wall, should I install a window so I can enjoy the view?

    Helpful video. What about putting dishwasher in the corner. I am planning to renovate my kitchen. Do you think it's a good idea to have the dishwasher in the corner?

    • @MTkitchens
      @MTkitchens  2 года назад

      corners are a tricky place to deal with. if given the choice, i'd avoid DW at a diagonal also because of similar issues with space savings and operational clearances. not to mention the plumbing run would likely be longer for the drain line. doable, but probably not ideal in most cases. hope that helps!

    Eric get out of my kitchen right!! I hate the catty corner sink! I'm taking down 3 two-door cabinet right now! Not only do I hate the catty-corner sing the cabinet above with the lazy Susan what could I do there I don't want that there! I just want a few cabinets in my kitchen and some shelves! I'm becoming a minimalist😅 my house just turned 100 years old! My kitchen has been depressing me like there's no tomorrow! I will be doing everything myself! Will I make mistakes of course I will! I cannot afford $30,000 to fully get a new kitchen! Any suggestions?

    Helpful analysis, thank you. I’m kind of stuck with a corner sink in my new ADU build because the plumber screwed up and placed the waste pipe way in the corner. It was originally centered on the window. It’s a slab foundation so I can’t change the pipe position without a huge hassle. Only option would be to cut through a bunch of cabinets to connect the pipe. The inspector won’t go for cutting holes through 4”x6” supports to connect to the corner through the wall. It’s also a small rental (600sq ft) so the “living room” and kitchen are in the same room. Moving to a corner sink also makes the room feel less dominated by the kitchen part. So more like a kitchenette. I’m not stoked on 8” to the edge of the sink though. Any other way to get it closer? Different sink shape maybe?

      Hi Gunner Bass, you might be able to find a hexagonal sink somewhere? Definitely not the most common thing out there, but I've had a client told me he had one made for him in the past. Hope that helps!

    Hi, hope you can answer my question. I bought a condo and the Kitchen didn't have a dishwasher. And also was very outdated. So i decided to remodel and add a dishwasher, i hired a contractor. He told me he was, when i asked for a receipt he didn't wanted to give me one. I gave him my deposit 1.5k, so my neighbor gave me an advice to just let him finish the work. I thought the contractor was very weird but well let him do my Kitchen since i gave him my initial. The first thing i noticed was the quartz that had about 3 chips, he told me not to worry and he send a guy to sand it and made it curve. Well everything was okay. Until my mom came and tried to do the dishes last week and told me she can't open the dishwasher because it's right next to the sink. I never had a problem because i an pretty lean but my mom is not. I don't know if i should call this guy to send one of his guys to move the dishwasher and a cabinet. Having to deal with him was a nightmirror, he was way too rude after i gave him my initial deposit. Will he even be able to fix the problem without breaking my quartz or my cabinets that are like new. If it's an easy fix I'll rater pay someone else to do it so i don't have to deal with this man

    very helpful. I have the same challenge. previous design had 42" corner cabinet to fit the 30" sink. New design, to save money, I am trying to use RTA ready to assemble - Cabinets 2 Go. Problem is that the standard base corner is only 36". Like you show here that leads to a small sink and tight space underneath to get at plumbing. I dont think the RTA providers have a standard 42" corner. They suggest a 24" on a diagonal, just as you do. and then to cut out the sides to fit the sink on top of the 24 " cabinet sides. the 30" sink would extend 3" beyond the cabinet side. BUT, I think that creates a problem for the sink installer. DO you agree? When doing an undermount on a solid stone counter, the sides of the sink are not accessible from underneath to mount it. Its blocked on the sink side by the sides of the 24" cabinet and its blocked on the outside but side of the other cabinet. AM i right, or does the installer not need access to the sides of the sink to mount it?

    • @MTkitchens
      @MTkitchens  2 года назад

      Yeah corners are just tough for all the reasons you just listed, add plumbing to the mix and we have a real fun time trying to figure out how to fit everything. in your case, i think it is a matter of how the sides are cut/modified/reinforced, and whether the installer can get their hands and tools in there to tighten everything after the fact. no real straight forward answer here i'm afraid.

    36x36 with a 45 °cut?

  • @peyton6145
    @peyton6145 6 месяцев назад +1

    So all of your considerations are against the corner sink and you want to put the sink, with all new plumbing for water lines and sewer (drain) line -- and those now have to be run where? Under the floor? behind the wall with the stove in the way? -- and the refrigerator at opposite corners of the kitchen? And, after you scrape and rinse plates, you get to carry them across the kitchen to put them in the dishwasher? Thanks, but I'll get my design ideas from somebody else. The right configured corner sinks can work OK.

    My rough in is hear the corner and the space is small What about a large farmhouse sink? Wouldn’t that eliminate having to lean forward?

    • @MTkitchens
      @MTkitchens  2 года назад

      Yes that would help with the leaning issue.

  • @astrinymris9953

    Um, you're assuming that the only way to do a corner sink is to have an angled cabinet. You could have a standard L-shaped corner, with two cabinet doors that open outward without a center stile. Yes, you lose that narrow bank of drawers next to the dishwasher, but you could easily put a full breadth bank of drawers elsewhere. Not hatin', just sayin'.
    Honestly, I think we need to challenge designers to get away from the L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens, and thus get rid of corner cabinets altogether. They're a hassle no matter how you handle them. We only think we need them because we're so used to them.
