It's like a never-ending buffet of all the jazz/funk you can take.
They certainly are. Just look at Quarterflash, with Rindy Ross wailing away. And Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis and Hall and Oates used the sax a lot. Depending where they come from in Japan, many large High Schools have their own Marching bands, they are really popular in Japan, I'm guess its where these girls learnt their craft, They are brilliant Musicians and they learn to play while dancing in their marching bands all through HS. Look up Kyoto Tachibana SHS Marching band and you'll see what i mean....love it!!
I live in Nagano, and our Suzaka Senior High School has one of the best brass bands in the prefecture. We're quite proud of them. The Kyoto SHS Marching Band has become quite famous thanks to their performances at Disneyland's Main Street.

Now seeing this performance doesn’t surprise me. Japanese High Schools bands are the greatest in the world and they do this all the time. The band is a school activity club and they rehearse every week for 40 hrs over 7 days. Most bands are 80% girls and they run them, making music choice and the choreography choices. They do this for their 3 year high school term and then graduate. Japan are light years ahead of the world and western music is very popular with the bands. There is a thing every New Year’s Day in Pasadena California, called the Rose Parade. Japanese school bands regularly perform in it by invitation from the organisers. Should have been a golden buzzer just for the audience reaction!
They are HUGE crowd pleasers for SURE. I saw another video that said the backstage crew, who I imagine to be at least somewhat jaded, were bopping along enthusiastically the whole time. Just watch that audience jumping up and down!
These girls really brought great energy and chemistry to their performance, would love to see a full concert with them. Would especially LOVE to hear them do some Earth Wind &. Fire covers (imagine a MOS-ified version of Boogie Wonderland! That would SLAP!)
These girls have SKILL!! All of these instruments, especially the trumpet and trombone, require so much air to be hitting those notes, and they're all hitting them flawlessly while DANCING! The articulation is some of the cleanest I have ever heard at 2:17 OMG. None of this even considers the difficulty of the arrangement, their blend, and so many other technical aspects that mark this group as massively skilled at their craft. These girls are absolutely incredible! I'm glad that the audience recognized it, because the judges clearly did not understand what was happening in front of them.
Thank you. I have come to dislike the use of the word "talent". What were are seeing here is the fruit of disciplined work to develop skill.
Most will not understand how absolutely difficult it is to play these and perform like THIS!
then do it lmao @susanivy3619
@susanivy3619it’s easy to learn but to master like that is not easy. Their tone style and breath control articulation is a lot more to it then just playing
Probably becuase it isn't that hard.

I think that's what Simon was referring to, they probably just need a little bit more practice (basically participating in the AGT to be coached) so they end up managing perfectly every note

There is an all girls school marching band in Japan, where they do massive dance routine while marching in formation. It’s actually really cool and very difficult but their discipline with their training is out of this world. Really cool.
Kyoto Tachibana, not any more an all girls school band, now boys are allowed to get to that school to.
Totally with you here...My first thought was to wonder if these girls came from that's school's program.

Some of the judges didn't get it but pretended they did. This was a mind-blowing performance.
Blowing 😮
I get it. I didn't really love it, but I'm not a brass instrument kind of guy. But that's not to say they didn't do a good job or that they don't have talent
It was unique and enjoyable.
I genuinely don't understand how Simon is a judge. He really does not understand music. Watch ANY of the JYP reality shows, and not only can he explain why there was an issue, he can perform it himself to show what he means. Simon knows he is expected to be needlessly critical without any SPECIFIC explanation. Just negativity, so he leans into it. Meanwhile, I think we could have heard this from any college marching band in America.
I have been following these girls for ages! I am so glad they are in AGT now! go go girls! As an intermediate saxophonist, I can tell you all that moving like this while playing is NOT easy at all.

I played the Auto Saxophone in the orchestra of my junior high. We entered the Marching Band Contest of the City and won the first prize. I can tell that this is not at all an easy job. This gave me chills, it was fantastic!! I really thought someone was going to give them the golden buzzer... They definitely deserved it.
My first criteria on judging an AGT act is whether they have the ability to keep their audience entertained for at least 45 minutes. If not, they don't need to be in Las Vegas. These ladies can do that and much more. I'd watch them workout their routine for as long as they are on the stage.
So glad that these women are getting more recognition! They are a great group and fun to watch!

They look like students from the world-famous Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School. ALL the students play one or two instruments and practice 7 days a week. Played in the 2012, 2018 Rose parade. Izumo Business High School features this song...so it might be that band...

They always steal the show with modern take on music and dance routines whilst playing.
Just type in on RUclips Japanese high school band at Rose Parade. The girls on this show would have come from such a band
